FOREST HILLS (5-0) @ MONROE (4-1) - 9/29/23

Usually this game is the last game of the season for all the marbles in the Rocky River 3A/2A but this year it's the first conference game of the season. Forest Hills owned this rivalry for many years and now Monroe has owned it for many years. Forest Hills was in a drought after legendary coach John Lowery retired and a not so great coach took his spot. (Terrible hire) Now with a new coach who knows his football Forest Hills is back to winning. Last year's game was a barn burner. FH jumped out to a two score lead but the game was lost in the end 21-19. Love to see another close one but Monroe looks really good. Forest Hills has the talent, speed and size but they've got to have a mistake free game to keep it close like last year. Go Jackets!!!!

(3) SWE 10-2 vs (6) Whiteville 10-2 UPDATES

Brawn meets brawn in Pinetops tonight. Paw vs paw. Canine vs big cat. The Wolfpack brings their stout defense to Cougar Stadium to see if it can slow down SWE's high scoring offense. But make no mistake about it, Whiteville's offense is no slouch either. They've actually put up more points than the Cougars. However, the strength of schedule favors SWE, partly because of the 2A/1A conference that Whiteville resides in. The two teams that SWE lost to are 20-2, 2A and 1A teams that are both still in the playoffs. The two teams that Whiteville lost to are 23-1, 2A and 1A teams that both still in the playoffs. One of their losses was to Clinton, who I'm sure we would lose to, and one of our losses was to Tarboro, who I think could defeat Whiteville.
I'm expecting defensive resistance like we haven't seen all year. Out of 12 games, they've only been scored on more than once 5 times. That's 7 games of 1 TD or less. Yikes! However.....I'm also expecting an offensive output that they haven't seen yet. I think we can utilize our speed and excellent blocking to get to the outside. I don't think there would be a point in running up the gut, other than to set them up for a sweep. Defensively, well, I'm just hoping that we play well enough to give us a chance. I have been critical of that side of the ball, but the defense has been lights out lately. I just need them to be...there...somewhere....on the field tonight. As usual, I will update, but I'm sure their poster will be doing the same. Safe travels to the Pack crew. I hope we are rude and ungracious hosts tonight!

Mount Airy & Area Football Turf Fields Updates

Rumer has it Mount Airy & Elkin is expected to get an artificial turf field after all, according to a source. Anyone have more information as to if this is true and when It may happen for all area schools. I do have more information but would prefer it be verified by someone else that has more limited information and knows why I prefer to let someone else in the know post the acuate updated information.

Oak Grove @ West Henderson Round 3

Don’t really know much about Oak Grove football other than what I read and opinions from all of you on here.
What are yall’s thoughts on this next game when the Grizzlies pay us a visit in Mills River?
If our Falcons are healthy and show up to dominate this game as they can do….Id say West wins this one by atleast 2 TDs. Conservatively though Im thinking we edge by with a 7-10 point win.

On a side note… In 3A West this year I like how the remaining 8 teams left are the 1-8 seeds. I guess sometimes the formulas and selection process does work out in the end even though we all have reservations about it lol! 😂

3A West 4th Round of Playoffs

My team is out but it is still a great time of year for me as a fan. All of the matchups have some intrigue to them and I am starting to see a pattern. The pattern is really good quarterback play overall. All four quarterbacks left in 3A west have their own distinct style of play that makes them effective. All four have insane qbr’s. I believe the lowest qb rating out of the four is in the mid 130’s which is a crazy stat. I think that best out of the four left in my opinion is Stober from Hickory. Stober’s accuracy is uncanny even when throwing on the run. WH’s qb completes 75% of his passes but it’s mostly off play action, Crest and Dudley’s qb’s are over 3,000 yards passing for season, but the Hickory qb is a step above. Unfortunately I do not believe Hickory has the defense to back him up. Please appreciate these guys talent because I can’t remember a Western 3A Region final four with the qb talent we are seeing right now.
