I watched that game on YouTube earlier this week….Charlotte Catholic who Crest played earlier this year would handle WF so you no where I’m going with this😂
I agree with you but that's why they play the game... like Rulz said I just want to see a good game between quality teams...

Cleveland County usually boatraces Davidson County. Off the top of my head...

1968 Shelby beat Tville for WNCHSAA
1975 ND Shelby tie for WNCHSAA
1976 Shelby shuts out Lexington for WNCHSAA (Lexington had nine shutouts themselves that year but injuries from the ND game previous week derailed their depth for title game. No excuses, I think Shebly would have beat them or us at full strength that year anyway based on research)
1980 Lexington beats Crest in 3A state playoffs before losing to Williams in NCHSAA title game
2002 Shelby beats Lexington in 2A playoffs
2018 Shelby beats ND for 2AA title
2021 Crest beats ND in 3A playoffs
2022 Crest beats OG in 3A playoffs

History says Cleveland County by a mile. But you never know...

Metzger Out At Montgomery Central

To be honest Metzger beating Asheboro was a great coaching job. I did not see that coming and Brown is a good coach too. I wish the best to both but realignment is MCs only hope as I have stated before. They had their best season ever and a still weakened ND blew them out, as did CD. They beat Ledford but other than the first time ever did it have any value? Aboro was their best win and that win kept Aboro from a winning record to give MC one instead.

Aboro is on the right track, at least from an improvement standpoint. MC on the other hand may have just went back to square one after improvement over the last few years.

Aboro never beat MC. They only beat ND and Ledford once. MC only beat Ledford once. Where do they go from here and will any coach who is experienced or of any quality apply or want the job? Nice facilities help but how much does the MC job pay as a one school county gig? Surely they have to sweeten the deal monetarily if the problems we've been presented with here are any indication or truth to them exists...

What, if anything, did we learn in 1st round ?

I learned a ref hand signal of a personal foul penalty somehow I didn't know.
I've seen it twice now once at the Mtn Heritage and then at the Draughn game.
He signaled personal foul the put his fist together 🤜🤛. No one around me in the stands or I asked knew and I finally found it online, it's an illegal blindside block.
How in the world as much football I've watched and those I asked and didn't know that? 😂

This is fantastic my good sir. The Black Knights come out in the smoke to open the game to Hells Bells and Back in Black. Before Back in Black the Dark Knight lines "the night is darkest just before the dawn... I promise you, the dawn is coming... And here we... go!" play, then the Knights run out to the ND in the middle. So semi relevant stuff lol... I hope the Chargers and Lions and Bulldogs and Mountaineers can come out to our place one day to see. That would mean we're relevant again at least in the playoffs if not a regular season game lmao

very good point about the coaches Otis. They are experienced the staff is loaded.
We got some good ones too! With all we have been through I can honestly say our coaches have coached their ass off. We thought at the beginning of practice we would have a really good offensive line. The first day of practice and we only have 1 returning offensive lineman. The good news is the regular season is over and here we are! 2nd rd of playoffs coming up and we have an experienced line now. We gonna line up and play!!

Burke County hoops

Freedom had a nice opening against Draughn tonight. The boys got a running clock win, while the girls pulled out a workmanlike victory. The Lady Pats have some holes to plug, but they get E. Burke next week and that will tell me a lot about what they might look like going forward. As for the boys, they were firing on all cylinders and got nice balance in their scoring in the win. Amore Connelly threw down two nice dunks and Kobe Bryant also got one. Freedom has depth, shooters and plays good defense and they could go a long way if they'll push the tempo and get their opponent's tongues hanging out. I'll know more about them after they face Hickory and A.C. Reynolds in December.

I wish McDowell played them twice a year still. Think it would be a great matchup this year boys and girls. McDowell has a pretty easy schedule and the MAC is terrible in basketball. There is a slight chance they could go through the season undefeated. Only South Caldwell or Reynolds should give them trouble and maybe someone in the Christmas Tournament they are in unless the teams in the MAC have improved dramatically.

West Montgomery and East Montgomery existed separately for so many years. I think both were completed around 1961. For 60 years, they were, like a lot of county schools, rivals.
When you consolidate, you've got to put someone in place that will work to weave the two school communities together. This did not happen properly in Montgomery County.
I think the prevalent (and somewhat lazy) mind-set was simple math. 2A school + 1A school = 3A school.
Both schools had some football success. As we've seen in the case, it does not translate into automatic success.
I know that was at least partially accurate because of the posters (former posters now I think) in this very forum. They predicted big gains and championships in a very short time.

I won't get into the coaching hires, as I don't think that anyone was going to do really great down there. When you show up to a football game at MCHS for their senior night, and their home stands are, at best, 30% full... that's a problem. Even this year when they had their first winning record (thanks to an amazing weak non-conference schedule, as well as a weak conference).

I am very curious to see what happens to them in the realignment. Their size will make them a conference outlier for foreseeable decades. It's a tough place to be athletically.

I do love the campus. Bring adjacent to the community college is a great arrangement for their students.

Independence at Hough and Mallard Creek and Watauga are tough Second Round matchups for sure

Then if they could get to the game then issue could be traveling back home at night. Makes it a dangerous situation either way.
I don’t know how much it will stay on the roads though. We haven’t had any cold weather up here yet. The ground isn’t that cold yet.

Dogs have to protect the ball and limit the dumb penalties. If they do this I like their chances. People need to remember last season when a Hertford County Bears team came into the pound and walked away with a win in the playoffs. Wrh is vulnerable to taking an L at home. I like the Dogs to win but they can’t turn the ball over like they did last week. Survive and advance. Many of the Dog faithful had given up hope a few weeks back, now they’ve been blessed with new life thanks to the coaching of Motsinger and company. Same can be said for East Duplin.
