I thought it might be interesting to see these results. Since we are down to 8 teams in the East. You get 4 choices. What 4 teams do you think win in round 3 and get to move on to round 4 of the playoffs?

note: I have never started a thread or poll before. So I hope I did it correctly.

West Stanly Open

West Stanly High School Head Coach Brett Morton resigned earlier this week after seven years at the helm of the Colts' program. West has had seen some talent come through over the years (BJ Hill, Jordan Poole, Quan Sturdivant, Rod Broadway to name a few) but has never seemed to be able to establish a program that consistently goes deeper than a round or two in the playoffs. Any thoughts on who might be next in line?

What happened at the North Moore/Bertie Game???

Got across the state to watch the Mallard Creek/Watauga classic, but spent some time viewing some films of other games around the state this weekend. Down in Robbins, I watched some of the NM/Bertie game. There was almost an all-out brawl before the game even started. Bertie players were jumping and jawing all at the 50-yard line while NM players looked on rather bewilderedly. Eventually the refs and coaches separated the two teams. More jawing from Bertie early on before NM rolled out to a 29-0 lead. Then it was pretty much quiet for the rest of the butt-kicking. Anyone know what the devil sparked all that? I don't believe the two have ever played so there's no rivalry issue. Heck, on the map they're nowhere near each other.

NCISAA 8-Man State Championship

Friday on the campus of Arendell-Parrott in Kinston, the 3 seed Rocky Mount Academy Eagles (10-2) face the 1 seed Wayne Christian Eagles (11-1) for the state championship. I know 8-man does not get a lot of love here but this game will feature 2 extremely talented athletes. First for Rocky Mount Academy, 2 way star Marti McKnight (Sr), a 6'2 215 pound RB/LB who has rushed 106 times for 1218 yards and 23 td's, he has caught 6 passes for 108 yards and 2 td's and also leads the defense with 80 tackles and 1 int. He is garnering D2 interest. For Wayne Christian, their top player is (Sr) Shiquan Ethridge, a 6'1 205 pound athlete who has rushed 82 times for 1285 yards with 21 td's, caught 23 passes for 588 yards and 11 td's and has helped out on defense at DB with 16 tackles. I know he went to NC State and Virginia on gameday visits and is garnering other interest from all levels. Both these guys are sub 4.5 40 yd dash guys and extremely athletic with good size. This should be a great game at the smallest level of high school football in NC as they both had tremendous seasons. I see Wayne Christian coming out with the trophy as they have a roster with over 40 players and have other pieces to compliment Etheridge. Should be a high scoring game, try to catch high-lites if you can, you will be impressed!

Worst State Champion

Who is the “worst” state champions you know of?

Typically we think of champions either being completely dominate or defeating another equally worthy opponent for a title, but who out there maybe didn’t?

Who were the most unlikeliest of champions? Maybe those who only played their best games when they counted but were otherwise unremarkable?

Can y’all think of any teams that were maybe truly underwhelming but still found themselves in the championship for whatever reason?

Thanks a bunch for any responses, I’m interested to hear some history and I’m hoping to set the mood for some playoff madness.

One last shout out to former Reidsville coach....Jimmy Teague...

In doing a little research of the H.O.F. coach....in his two terms as head coach (1992-2008, 2011-2022)....he won 339 games losing only 58...his teams won 8 state titles and were runners-up 2 other times....while coach's teams were recognized for their offense they were usually pretty darn good on defense as well....of Coach Teagues 339 wins....................95 were shutouts.....Rams fans salute you Jimmy...enjoy your "retirement"....................................
