Congratulations to Mt Airy Bears 6'5" 235 lb pound offensive lineman Spencer Baldwin and 6'0" Walter Stroup 180 lb DB/WR/Kicker on being selected to the West team.
I understand Spencer is getting a lot of interest from many D1 universities including Nebraska. Stroup is drawing interest as a kicker from the likes of Duke and other ACC and area D1 schools.
Might as well get this started. This is likely for the conference and, for the Panthers a top seed in the playoffs. And of course the county bragging rights.
The Panthers have won five of six including twice last year on their way to a state championship. Wallace leads the all time series and want revenge for those two losses. Should be a battle!
North Pitts size was a struggle for us. # 44 is a beast. #9 a sophmore is outstanding. I’d love to have this kid in Vanceboro. Had some officiated that made you scratch your head. The white hat got behind North Pitts defense once and was about to start the clock before another official stopped him and pointed out which end of the field he needed to be on. I don’t think I have ever seen that before. They made a bad call on North Pitt late in the first qtr and then ended up scoring any way. I’m glad they did. I said at the time Ball don’t lie!!

It was really hard picking the SMC Game of the Week but given the fact that Andrews has beat Murphy the past 3 times and with both Murphy and Andrews losing the past 2 games in conference, each one is out for blood looking for a win here. So we will go with that one for the SMC Game of the Week!

Here we go. Central was able to beat North for the first time in nearly two decades last year. North is fighting to perhaps get the second seed in conference depending on how things shake out. Central is giving up alot of points this year but their style of offense keeps them in the game usually and scores plenty on its own. This game is critical for both teams moving forward for playoff placement.
OG should put a running clock on MC. I will be surprised if they don't. Might get a little chippy as MC likes to play undisciplined and OG has some linemen who aren't afraid to scrap lol...
Ledford should not have trouble with Aboro even if not still fully healthy this week. If at full health they blow em out no question. All Aboro tries to do is throw deep and hope someone catches it.
Wanting to know what peoples thoughts are on Oak Grove to this point? Have they earned respect yet? The Varsity team only 6 years in and are 47-16. They went to the playoffs in their second year as a program and have made it each year since. Went to the second round of the playoffs in the third and fifth year. Beat North and Ledford the second year in the regular season while those schools still had their 3A and 4A students. I personally think that the best team OG has had to date is the 18-19 team (probably a bit bias as my son was on that team). This years team is doing very well but against competition of North and Ledford that has declined. OG beat Salisbury in the 20-21 season early on in the season and Salisbury went on to win the state title that year. The JV team has gone 44-3 over the past 6 years and I don't know the middle school record but they went several years undefeated. I know the younger programs don't always represent what the future holds but it seems to be working out so far for them.
Looks like this one has been moved up for today. Winner takes the "bronze medal" of the PAC-7. Should be a very good game. Whoever has the ball last might win this one.
