Heard the golden child, Dax Hollister, I mean Hollifield is changing tires in NASCAR. Proud of the young man to find his way in life, an support his family. Always loved his game, but the cockiness, imo rubbed some people the wrong way.
As we have entered the final two weeks of the regular season, who are the top teams in the state who can make a deep run into the playoffs. We know the the East has some strong teams that will battle it out. The West is loaded and will be an absolute gauntlet to get through.
Who are the teams you see making a deep push? What are the strengths of the team that will have them winning over other top teams in the state? Do they have weaknesses that concern you with two weeks left before playoffs begin.
Most people on the boards are familiar with Cummings and Johnathon Paylor. However, Northwood has quietly had a good year. The Chargers have a very good TE in Gus Richey and a do-everything QB in Carson Fourtunes. Northwood blew out Southeast Alamance 55-9 which is actually impressive.
With so many games getting shifted this week I thought I would start this thread early, especially since Oak Grove vs Montgomery Central got moved to today.
Only one team in last week's HSOT Statewide Top 25 lost on Friday. That team was the Scotland Fighting Scots. Scotland, then No. 25, fell to Pinecrest, then No. 25, in a 27-17 ballgame. Scotland was replaced by the Monroe Redhawks, a force in the 2A West.
With Monroe's inclusion, 17 of the top 25 teams reside in the western half of the state.
Here are a few things about how our rankings work in football:
Rankings are updated weekly and released Tuesday morning
All high schools in the state of North Carolina, excluding athletic training academies, are eligible for the statewide top 25
There is a separate top 15 for the state's six area codes that is also updated weekly
Rankings are paused during the N.C. High School Athletic Association playoffs
Final rankings are released the week after the state championships
