Just curious to know which teams have to travel the most and least for their first round matchup. I see that Trask has to go to Cummings. 2 1/2 hours, 170 miles. Any further opponents? Include all divisions.
Looks like WRH and Hertford Co matchup looming. Looking forward to hosting them in second round. Goobs NE Eagles on a collision coarse with a Holly tree team.
Best first-round matchup — (21) Cherokee @ (12) Starmount. This is a fascinating matchup between a team from the famed Smoky Mountain Conference and a team whose only loss came to clear 1A favorite Mount Airy. A Cherokee win here would show us how good the SMC is and a Starmount win here could show us how good Mount Airy.
Best chance at an upset — (20) Corvian Community @ (13) Draughn. Frankly, I don't see any upsets actually happening in 1A. But if I had to pick one, its this. This Corvian team has some talent on it, but its mostly because I have no idea what to make of Draughn anymore after it was absolutely crushed in the season finale by Mountain Heritage.
The hardest road — Everyone in the 1A West. Some of these teams would be state championship-caliber in most other years. Mount Airy is just as special as teams can come.
The easiest road — East 1-seed Tarboro. The Vikings won't break a sweat on their way to another state championship appearance.
7-3 Chambers takes on 8-2 NW Guilford. Sounds like maybe a good game here. The winner will take on the winner of Weddington vs Providence game. What a 2nd rd game that will be. Any thoughts on this game.
South has had a respectable season. Albemarle started off slow against a relatively strong schedule and then finished strong. The Bulldogs will have an advantage in team speed but does South have the opportunity of making it a game? I suspect the Tville posters will have some pretty good insight.
On paper Sun Valley looks to be the favor to win. But can Cox Mill pull out the win. Not really sure how good Sun Valley is. The winner plays the winner of Grimsley vs North Meck game. Any thoughts.
