Well spring sports have wrapped up summer right around the corner so lets get some actual good discussions going up here. Lets talk some Darkhorse football gearing up for 2019 season looks to be a exciting one Coach Johnson entering his 2nd season at the helm alot of good players returning some new teams on our schedule and alot of questions to be answered. Which game are yall looking forward to the most this season? I know the obvious answer lol(Wallace Rose-Hill Oct 25th). Record prediction? Which players not named Kaba do you expect to step up and shine this season? And what are some lingering questions heading into the summer? Lets have some good discussion keep it clean and positive, outside opinions/insight welcomed aswell

To answer some of my own questions....im looking forward to the Central Cabarrus game. Why? Its someone we never played before judging by their 2018 record they have a solid team so should be good competition. I hear they have beautiful facilities(turf field) and like i said beford its something different always enjoy seeing different teams styles players especially someone i never seen play. My record prediction obviously i have high expectations lol at worst 6-4 at best 10-0 looking at the schedule Non conf wise Cape Fear,East Bladen,Northside-Jax and CC are all tough games definitely not cake walks and in conference i see East Duplin and obviously Wallace being are toughest foes....i believe we have alot of talented athletes returning i believe J'Daques Wallace is going to have a big year on both sides of the ball a couple others i have my eye on Devon Smith(Boogie) Jatiyuhn Wilson, Spencer Westerbeek,Drew Leggett are just a few that standout to me off of last years production but i mean we got alot.of good kids returning anyone of them could be named.....a couple question marks heading into the offseason who do you think will be under center? Normally for a team that historically doesn't pass the ball much you would think not a big question but it always is atleast to me.We have plenty of options with Kaba,King, and Smith i like Kaba at WR if he playing both ways but cant ignore his frame, athletic ability and speed makes a good fit at QB

I'm going with a record of 8-2 at the worst. I would place King under center and use Kaba at WR some plays. With him, Wilson and Westerbeek, that would be a TALL receiving core. I would like to see the ball aired out just a liiiiiiiiitle bit more LOL!

Agreed, watched Westerbeek make some great catches on JV before he was moved up had some good catches in the Kinston game hes gonna be good on offense and defense

Think we will.be strong on both lines alot of size returning also heard me before mention a couple guys who werent able to participate last season fue to various reasons not quite sure what their status is now if they still at Clinton or what but if guys like Jaheim and Camron are eligible to play next season just going to help the team be even better

Let's hope that everyone that is eligible to play does, and that the team stays healthy overall.

Huge factor in 2018 the amount of talent that wasnt on the field due to injury and other factors was mindblowing and the team still thrive credit to coaching and great depth

Maybe all the injuries was a blessing in disguise in the fact that a lot of underclassmen got playing time. Just helps with our depth this year, like you said.

Looks like Big Jalen signed with someone aswell looking at pics just posted on the FB page

Yes think Clinton has had what like 10 guys off the sign with colleges this year....great job by the kids and the coaches underclassmen get to see if you work hard on the field and in the classroom this staff is going to help you get to the next level.....i think we are going to see a spike in participation this upcoming season

Agreed. And whether the next level is JuCo, D2, D3, D1, it doesn't matter. It's a free education, first and foremost, and continuing to play the game these guys love is a bonus.

Would love to see Nick Smith get out there and play 6'4 would make a awesome WR......i see where East Bladen football has swayed a basketball player to get out on the gridiron....6'6 215 that kid going be hell trying to defend if used correctly.....2 things hard to defend in a WR at any level....height and speed

That goes back to the 'one sport' mentality you have been talking about. Maybe someone can get into Nick's ear about playing.

Eager to see a couple guys growth one in particular rising sophomore Blake Smith....athletic kid probably has a shot to atleast challenge for the QB spot but the kid is so athletic they can really use him in a number of places WR,special teams return man,DB,RB.....well rounded athlete plays every sport varsity baseball as a freshman....got alil playing time last season as a 8 quarter JV kid had a nice INT in the Midway game

Well with the Spring sports over with, the team can really begin getting together.

Its only so much you can do if a kid doesnt want to play he doesnt want to play all you can do is give him the benefits of what it could do and hope he chooses to try it.....one of my favortie examples right is Clemson's outstanding WR Justyn Ross 6'4 210 while in High School wanted to quit football and just focus on basketball, his mother stepped in and didnt let him.....fast forward to today guys got a National Championship under his belt literally embarrassed the Alabama secondary in that game and in 2 years he going to be a first round draft pick making alot of $$$$$$$

Like i said in a post before if we(Clinton) are going to ever get back on the same level as the programs like Reidsville and Shelby the athletes gotta start playing again thats what the difference is between back then(90's early 2000's) and now.....Reidsville has a kid think he was a sophomore WR/DB this past season with basketball offers from power 5 schools out there making plays in the State Championship...i can make a whole list of names of guys i played with or grew up watching play that dominated on the field August-December then stepped on the court and did the same thing December thru February....but like i said before u can only do so much cant force a kid to play a sport he doesnt want to...you can only talk to him about how it can help him maybe give some examples(Lebron James,Ben Wallace,Charlie Ward,Allen Iverson etc)

That's Breon pass. He has more offers in football now then basketball. I always thought he was going to go basketball, but with all of these football offers I think he could go football now.

And thats the point im trying to get at....why sell your self short playing only one sport....give yourself as many opportunities as possible especially if you are a gifted athlete like him....more opportunities in football i believe anyway look at the roster size alone basketball compared to football

I saw today Former Darkhorse/71st Falcon Xavier Howard signed with Georgia Highlands College for basketball congrats to him really missed him this last season on the court

Been 2 years since we had a 1,000 yard rusher...shocking for a school once dubbed tailback U for the shear number of great running backs we had come thru the school....last 1,000 yard rusher was Ryheem Skinner in 2016...if memory serves me correctly QB Knowledge Evans was probably the yardage leader last season dont think he hit 1000 tho.....does that drought end this season with one of the talent RBs we have or do you see more of a committee approach

I think the talent is there for a 1,000 yard back vs tailback by committee. I think J. Wallace has a great season, especially with the size of the O-line this year. The bigger question to answer this season will be at QB, although I think what King lacks in speed compared to Evans last year, I think King has the bigger arm.

King has some good speed the only thing i would say is different between him and Evans is Evans is a more physical runner pretty much a RB playing WB but i agree i think King is a better natural passer given his baseball background aswell but he is fast didnt get to see it much but he had a nice run back in the Jamboree if he is indeed the man behind center if he gets to the outside he can take it to.the house

Was checking out Clinton's picture they provided for the Friday Night Lights twitter page uniform project and noticed #34 Edwin Sampson in the picture....another returning player i believe has the potential for a breakout season on both sides of the ball...he was injured midway thru the season last year and was out for the remainder of the year but before his injury i thought he showed the most "get up" out of all of the RBs definitely showed great speed and acceleration in limited carries i also believe he was playing some LB for us aswell....just another name to be on the lookout for this season. GO HORSES!!!!

You're right, another player to look out for this season! On another note, the uniform project is pretty cool! Some nice uniforms being displayed. I would love to see Clinton with a gold helmet in addition to the black one. SWO has orange helmets in addition to their black ones.
