“Don’t Believe the Hype” Public Enemy 1988
And, I don’t believe the hype. Initially, I was going with 27-15 Burns. Why such odd numbers, LA? Burns has a tendency to miss an extra point at least once every game. Reidsville, especially if they score first, likes to go for two at least once or twice a game.
I’m now beginning to think 24-17, Burns. I think this game will resemble the Burns vs Salisbury game. Salisbury had an awesome D, too. The key for the dogs will be not turning the ball over, giving up cheap tds in the return game, pressuring Lee, and limiting Flippen’s screen yardage. They will go over the top with him, too, here and there. Make someone else other than Flip Flippen in the Rams offense beat you. Control Flip! Runningbacks have no wiggle, should be able to contain them.
“LA, you must be crazy thinking the Rams will only score 17 points. We have all world speed that can’t be simulated, not even on Madden”. Nah, seen it far too many times in recent years, this late in the season, against the Shelbys, Northeasterns, WRH, in these “state championship” caliber games. You’d score 14 here and there, I think 21 one year. Those offenses were more potent than this year’s offense. Much of the same, average 60 ppg in the regular season, and the first few rounds of the playoffs, then get in these “championship games”, and that average dips dramatically.
Burns will be better, offensively, than those eastern teams, more balanced on offense. All Northeastern would do is run quarterback sweeps, draws, and power. They were very limited, offensively, but had a championship caliber defense.
Rams have an opportunistic defense that turns take aways into points, and creates short fields for them. They seemingly never have to drive the length of the field, and it’s nothing for them to get a significant amount of their points from pick 6s and punt returns. Make them earn the points the hard way.
