Western Final: Burns vs Reidsville

A couple of weeks ago during an officials time out where they all gather in a huddle, to try figure out some rule or another, I happened to think of the Monte Python and the Holy Grail scene where they summon the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch. It is not pertinent to this game, it does remind me of some of the confusion some of the officials display. Look it up on YouTube- The Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch. You might substitute yard for counting seconds.

your posts could use a little work. Try using less words somtimes. Sometimes less is more. If you're gonna post like me then do it right.

In all seriousness, cant wait for this game.

The first time Burns defense lines up will tell you what kind of chance they have. Dont even need to see a play ran, just need to see how they line up.
I don't agree with that. Our coaches do a great job at in game adjustments. If what we're doing isn't working, they will change it.

Wow. Before we even run a play on defense, these posters will know if we even "have a chance" or not. They are unreal. Shelby is nowhere near as arrogant and pompous as y'all are.

You have a chance, but your alignment decides what level of chance you have. You could be lined up in a way that lowers your chance, and still win. It's not arrogance or being pompous. There is a formula to defeat any team, and your defensive alignment is a key variable in that.

Are you a coach? Either way how in the world do you know that? You don’t know what the other coach is thinking or planning.

How is the Reidsville kicker, and how far does the ball travel on kickoffs?

That is the one thing that tears my nerves up with us. It's no secret, we do a pooch kick to about the 30-35 yard line every single time. Giving the ball to the other team in great field position. A lot of the times, they return it to past the 40. If we're going to do that, we may as well kick the ball out of bounds and not let them return it at all. I understand the logic behind what we do. It decreases the chances of a big kick return, but man it's frustrating.

I agree! I was hoping he would enlighten us of an early indicator of how Reidsville has a chance.

I just get tired of hearing the same crap. We haven't seen anything like them. Their freshman Neal has 46 interceptions. Flippen is the greatest since sliced bread, their defense is only behind the steel curtain for best all time....It's so annoying. I'm just ready to be done with this week. Win or lose so I don't have to deal with them anymore.
You don’t have to deal with it at all, just get of the thread, problem solved 😎

You dont need to be a coach to know these things.

If the Rams were a Power I running team and Burns came out in a nickel look, then Burn's chances to win wouldn't be as good as if they used a 5-2 or something of that nature. Some defenses give a team a better chance against certain offenses than others do.

It's common sense, which obviously isnt that common on high school message boards.

I understand that but don’t you have enough common sense to know Burns won’t line up in run defense or something other than what your offense runs. Y’all make it sound like if were not in a certain defense we have no shot!!

Burns is simple. They will run a 1-10 or a 10-1 defense. If they come out in the ole 1-10 it’s to keep the play in front of them at all times. They take the amount of yards to the end zone and divide it by 10. The amount will tell how far up field each player has to be with the extremely free safety touching the goal line as a last resort.

If they come out in that damn 10-1 it’s over. They took notes from Shelby Lion and said well hell let’s send the house every play and pressure Lee. If he does in fact get the ball away then we have that 1 extremely free safety there to make the stop on the other 12 receivers they have.

It’s simple mathematics really.

Reidsville pooched kick to the same guy almost every time against us.

Its funny some burns fans took shots at us the last few years though.

Maidens defense actually played pretty well against Reidsville if thier offense would have helped them out a little it would have been a ballgame.
Maybe Burns can lineup like Maiden did.🤷‍♂️

Its funny you mention this... I was in the pressbox watching some little league recently and made the exact comment of some of the teams running a 10-1 defense... I giggled for ten minutes

When I was coaching we ran Cogdills (When he was at Burns) 4-2-5 with my two best athletes basically at the 0 and 9 gaps (OC at the time didnt do the traditional 2468 1357 hole alingments, he went 0 to 9 so we taught our team both ways, pulled guards and tackles at 3 and 4th grade... When they get it right its beautiful....

I say that to say this, we didnt give up many big plays, but you must know me well, because I did send the house ONCE and and gave up a long td and called out by a particular players dad, who made fun of me for weeks for that play so I am wondering if that is you ha ha ha ha

Fortunately, my guy, SL is one of the few people in this county with teeth.🙂 Getting to know him over the years, he’s probably in the mirror brushing his “teef” and trimming his goatee, as I type this. I have never seen that guy needing a shave, and goatee not on point. 98 Champ is an actual dentist. Always has a grin or smile on his face. Think Alfred E Neuman (youngins look that name up).

😁

Lots of Jimmy Teague talk in this thread. That is the ultimate question. What will happen to the Reidsville program when he leaves for good? He was responsible for bringing Reidsville out of their 3 decade absence from championship play (1971-2001). Will his successor be able to continue the success or could there be another absence in the future?

Hey SL- we’re pretty good at getting after those Lee boys this year. Should be no different Friday night. Gonna get back there early and often.
You might get back there early and often. Lee might still be there but that ball its going to be downfield in the direction you came from.

I would think the feeder program will still be in good shape. These players didn't just start playing when they got to the high school.

We talked about it and decided to take another 3 decades off to give Shelby a chance to catch up. Y'all didn't take advantage of it last time.

Burns will get ball at 35 every time. We will kick it directly out of bounds at the 30 yd line

It’s definitely not me man. I used your breakdown from earlier in the thread to fuel my expertise on how Burns will stop them. I would go with the 10-1 myself.
