As soon as some one has a difference of opinion with you the claims of propaganda and conspiracies come out. Yeah, I do remember when the president said it would just disappear. We see how well that's worked. And because of rhetoric like that here we are with people not taking this serious, with the risk of not having a sports season.

If people don't want to take it serious, then whatever. If you want to think the government is after you, then whatever. But when there isn't a sports season, and more and more people end up hospitalized and dead, people will have no one to blame but their own self for their selfish ways.

I hope this virus doesn't impact any of you, but I'm currently watching it spread like wildfire in the county I am in, all because no one wants to take it serious.

During WWII, Americans did what they had to do. They rationed food and resources to provide for our men at battle. Women went to work on factories. The true American spirit was alive. We were a powerful force.

Today we no one can even be bothered to wear a mask hardly without whining over their freedoms and are willing to let the greatest generation die over the economy. The same generation that came together during WWII.

It in fact did start in a Wuhan lab, so calling it that is factual.
I remember when the democrats were upset with Trump for closing down the boarders and not letting people in, they said “it was unconstitutional & he shouldn’t do that”

at the end of the day, no one knows what’s right or wrong. You choose to believe what you want, and I will choose to believe what I want.

I choose to believe facts though. Schools should re-open, sports should be played with fans, everything should be open. My elderly family who are at high risk are even saying the same thing. They can die from the Flu just as easy as this.

I’m sorry you feel the need to include me in that. Generally, I’ve tried to keep the politics out of it, though I do have a strong opinion of Phil Berger. That was established long before this.
Mostly, I’ve tried to report facts. They come straight from the state DHHS. I believe them to be true and mostly accurate. If others don’t, they have a right to that opinion.
I’m neither a Democrat nor Republican and vote for some of both every election. If I’m too passionate, that doesn’t come from any news outlet or partisan affiliation. It comes from personal experience of how devastating this type of disease can be.
I haven’t called anybody names or said any poster is stupid. I know very few posters on here and have no idea of anyone’s intelligence. Name calling says more about me than the other person. It’s sophomoric and I try not to indulge in it.
So probably the only time I’ll tell somebody they’re wrong on here is when they call me out for something that isn’t true about me. I respect the right of others to have an opinion, no matter how much I may disagree with it.

On May 9th, there were 201 North Carolinians hospialized with the virus.
On June 9th, it was 542.
Today, July 9th, there are 1034, a high so far.

Note the dramatic increases from month to month. And no, these aren’t people hospitalized for political gain or to enhance the hospital’s bottom line. They’re real and so is the virus.

I don’t think it is we are not taking it serious. I am, I know it is bad, have a couple Of friend who have ended up in the hospital. I just choose not to live in fear. Saw where if the death rate drops another .02% it no longer meets the criteria of the WHO as a pandemic. Will that mean it isn’t still nasty nope. It is just numbers.

Does the fact they are testing positive patients every 6 days and double positive results count as new cases increase numbers? Go back and look at the daily positive % rates for NC. Every day they tell you it is 9-10% of those tested. But for several days if you do the math it is at 5-6%. Not great but better. Other days it is 10%.

Do I feel and think there is politics behind some of this, absolutely. Is it on both sides, most definitely. Do I think it is better for kids to be in classrooms with the risk than virtual learning, yep. The biggest risk are taking it home to parents and grandparents not to the children themselves. That is IF you believe the numbers given out. Do I think there will be high school sports before Christmas, unfortunately no. Not that I will be upset at that just hate it for the kids and the lessons they learn.

Are my chances of dying from a heart disease greater than COVID? According to the numbers yes, but can’t speak for everyone else, I still enjoy a cheeseburger way often. My point is, while I try and eat properly sometimes there are certain risks I am willing to take while others will never eat the greasy ol burger.

As I stated over in the Vance HS thread, I have found this thread for the most part to be a good healthy discussion in how this whole situation affects our lives and even more so our beloved HS football. In some cases it has been informative and educational. With our downtime in football, I realize we all need an outlet to discuss things that affect football.

With that said, I will not allow childish name calling or political endorsements directly or casually for either party. For the most part it is very obvious how you plan to vote by your writings on this

This may be the most politically bias and dramatic statement in this whole thread. Absolutely sad how folks are letting this whole thing control every aspect of their life. What so many folks are failing to understand is this...

if schools aren’t open in the fall and even if they are and let’s say 20% of parents decide to home school. This craziness will all eventually end at some point and schools will be open at full capacity. If 20% of a student population decides to home school than teacher jobs, coaches jobs, counselor jobs, are lost because, teacher allotment, district money, and school money is based upon the number of students in your building. So when things return to normal and home school parents decide to send kids back then there won’t be teachers to teach their classes. Classes will be filled to 30+ per class and there is no way 1 teacher can teach that many effectively and meet every child’s needs. Furthermore, let’s not even talk about the mental health issues that are facing the youth of our country already. Many students are already suffering from isolation disorder. We as a state and a nation can say we are doing this to protect our kids but at what costs? We will have a whole other set of issues plaguing the youth of our state and country if the adults in decision making positions don’t start taking the whole child into consideration.

Well they have a higher chance currently to get Covid. There is a lot we don't know about Covid still. It's less than a year old and we are learning new things daily. It's not a cold. A cold doesn't kill over 100,000 people in 4 months. The issue is, we don't know how this will impact people later in life. Once you have it. You live with it, just like any other virus. That's the scary thing people don't realize with thi .

I just had two friends recover from it. Said it’s no worse than allergies with a fever. I have some other friends in serious trouble battling it. The first two are in their 50 s no other preexisting conditions. The others had preexisting conditions in their 60 s. So it totally depends on your immune system how this virus attacks. It wouldn’t surprise me if China didn’t engineer it this way to kill their own people who are costing them money. That said most of law enforcement in Mitchell and Yancey county supposedly have tested positive for the virus. This virus will run its course just like any other virus no matter if we quarantine and do all this masking up or not. There’s kids not getting meals they desperately need, they’re not getting the education they need, some families don’t have the tools necessary to home school. Seniors are being cheated out of for some what will be the highlight of their entire life. At risk people are going to get this no matter what. It’s in the store, it’s on the gas pump, it’s on your shoes! We as a country are not Greece, China, France or any other socialist Or communist country. American is a society where a have nothing can gain everything. It’s not ok to take away the dreams of our children to protect people who are going to get this virus anyway.

Well said. It's real easy for all us adults/parents/politicians to forget the profound truth that it's not about us. At the end of the day my prayer is that the KIDS win whatever that looks like. Yeah it will suck out loud if my son missed his senior year of playing a sport that he loves passionately. However, if it's meant to be I will trust that there is a higher power than a governor involved in allowing it because much prayer has been placed into it.

Wake County has suspended athletics indefinitely. To be honest with as many school districts suspending athletics, I'm shocked the NCHSAA hasn't done so for the whole state.

No but people want to keep saying x amount out of 11 million are hospitalized. That's a poor representation of anything. It's about ICU capacity and hospital beds. Texas is running out of ICU capacity and so are other states. So what happens when someone has a heart attack and can't get an ICU bed? We have to think critically and stop worrying about trying to use the number of people hospitalized compared to the people in the state as an argument.
