CVAC 2022 - Week 10

BFR, that’s right, my friend, EB may be the nicest stadium high school stadium around here. After the game I sat there until most everyone had left, I do that a lot to avoid the bottleneck. They had people already tidying up. It’s well taken care of. That was my first visit, there. Hoping to get to come back.
It was really good to have met you, in person.

AMD, I saw that WOOOOOooo. We could call you Bic Flair like the ink pen and people might think you write books. That’d mean you have to wear spectacles and a necktie, you’d be a gentleman.

Wow LOL. I want east burke to be good and think they can be good. But any time ur in a conference with maiden.. I don't know about THE TEAM to beat 😂. Bunker Hill will be a great team next year. But just remember maiden always finds a way to be the best woohoooo... 😂😂

So Bunker Hill is really young too?

I mean EB is only losing 8 seniors and most of our skill set and size is underclassmen. Some of those seniors this year will be greatly missed and have hard shoes to fill but I got a good feeling we will be more ready and more of a team to beat than you think. I never said or predicted they’d be conf champs but they’ll be closer to possibly grabbing it next year as opposed to this year depending on what players come back and what players move on in the cap and gowns in this conf from other schools. Bunker Hills JVs was one of the only teams our JVs whooped up on and our JVs hadn’t won but maybe 2 games and all the losses was by 14 pts or more. This years varsity has been in every game except Maiden, that one was a run away and Bandys game they just gave up after the half but other than that they’ve had every team on the ropes and looking for no different from West Lincoln this Friday. Even that Freedom game was crazy. By looking at the score you’d think Freedom played a good game, they didn’t. EB shot themselves in the foot at least twice in that game and Freedom was just athletic enough to capitalize and push ahead, shoulda been a close win or a close loss.

Bunker Hill RB and QB will be back next year.

What did Maiden do, grab some of North Lincoln’s boys? 😝

Kinda wondered why North fell off the map and lost to Lincolnton for the first time in 3 or 4 years and pretty much not been playing good football as a whole in general this year. Don’t mean to go away from CVAC or 2A but if North can give East Lincoln a good game then we’ll know that they are not ready to have a fork in em’ just yet. If people stop moving to that area LOL North be 2A and prob in the CVAC which would be fun football wise but would own the track every spring like Watauga did the NW4A for like forever

Haha. Be interesting to see who maiden picks up for next year. I will have a separate post for Maiden Recruiting so the CVAC fans can keep up. 😂😂😂😂
🤣🤣 fair enough haha...and I'll tell you like all the other slop throwers round here....if you were the better team, in a better school, in a better town, kids would come to you instead, and you wouldn't have a problem with it...

Maiden is great, kids are attracted to greatness and want that same success, athletically and academically.

Classic Hater's Syndrome...people hate Maiden because their school/team/town isn't good enough for kids who want better. It's a whole town effort over here...what are ya'll doing for you?

If you build it they will come, if its a dumpster fire they will not. That said I am not a fan of free agency in High School, not even a fan of the transfer portal in college.
Not a fan of recruiting at all in HS...If your successful and the town has something to offer the family and a whole family picks up roots of their own free will, no recruitment, and moves to your district...then that's full commitment and I'm okay with that.

No living in Burke County and driving to Hickory HS. No living in Mooresville and driving to Statesville...etc.

I'm a fan of school choice. I think kids should be able to choose which school best fits them academically so that they can have a leg up in the next level of their learning. And being able to choose the school that has the academic programs to help make you successful is a good thing not a bad thing

They ain't transferring for academics. They're transferring to be in a better program or a system that fits them better which is still fine.

What is bad , there we’re Maiden coaches talking to LHS varsity players at halftime of the JV Game tonight. Nah they don’t recruit .
I guess that means I was recruited by Lincolnton, Bandys, Hickory, Cherryville and Bunker Hill in high school.

I mean heck Lamont Reid lived in Lincolnton on North Street. Petey McLain and Tristan Lawing lived off Buffalo Shoals rd in Lincolnton
I can't speak on Lamont...but I would pick up and drop off Petey and Tristan from practice and school myself on several occasions. Petey from S Pine St here in Maiden and Tristan from a road off Smyre Farm Rd....

Lamont Reid lived in several places. Through his life, if I remember correctly he played Optimus ball with my little brother at balls Creek. As far as Tristan lawing if you want to claim him have at it you would probably be the only one at this point.

Yeah I think Lamont ‘s grand parents were in Maiden. Lawing and Mclain did not really officially live in Maiden till their Junior year . Lamont Reid is one the best guys to ever play for Maiden . I have heard nothing but good things over the years .
Lamont is a phenomenal human being. His story deserves it's own ESPN 30for30. We recognized him last week at halftime along with Tommy Henry and others.

The only thing missing tonight is the old Tom Brown stadium. The current stadium does not feel like Maiden. As a visitor, I hate it because the speakers are so loud with that music . Can’t wait for tonight .
On this we agree. Why they didn't build the new stadium to match the old one baffles me. Put the track around the soccer pitch.

Lincolnton has a fence around their field…wishing Maiden would do that and allow us to stand on the fence like the old days.
Prolly never happen though.

I noticed Lincolntons’ visitor side concrete bleachers had been pressured washed….they were shining like a new penny last night. It was amazing how much better it looked.

You know…when you’re down there at night….it’s like sleepy hollow…I looked for Ichabod Crane….but I heard he had to make a late run to the Supermarket!😂😂

Go! Boom Devils!❤️

The money is there to make the changes. The county would never approve it 🤡🤡

Because of the moisture in the sleepy hollow it is probably a good thing we are getting turf.

I love our stadium and I also thought East Burke has a beautiful place. But there’s still a different kind of intensity at the places that don’t have a track around the field. The old Maiden stadium sure was a fun place to watch a game.
Growing up, I almost enjoyed going to Maiden games more than Lincolnton games because of the atmosphere and close proximity to the action. Went and watched them play one year against Thomasville at home (I believe that was who they were playing) during the playoffs and being captivated by the atmosphere at a young age. We are very lucky to have two great programs within such a short distance with communities that care.

I remember going to Maiden home playoff games once Lincolnton was knocked out of the 3A playoffs. What else was I going to do on a Friday night besides stare at the Sears Wish Book? It would be so cold, but you were warm because bodies would be huddled so tight up in those old stands.

Dad would always make us stand on the fence in the endzone. We were always packed in like sardines

To me...there is no other county line opponent matchup like the Maiden/Lincolnton games. We always play each other tough and beat up on each other in cycles it seems. Two accomplished championship programs, rich in tradition and community.

There should be a trophy to play for...maybe take a chunk of asphalt from 321, mold it into a football shape, and stick it on a stand..."Turn out for the Burn out - Maiden VS Lincolnton for the HWY321 trophy - Where the rubber meets the road"

Since 2004:
M and L have met 21 times: 18 regular season matchups and 3 playoff games
M leads series 11-10 overall; M leads 7-2 as conf opp; L leads 2-1 in playoff matchups
Games at Maiden: M leads 5-4
Games at Linc: Tied 6-6
M has outscored L 535-527 (avg of 25-25)(hard numbers are actually 25.5-25.1)
M has kept L to 1 score or less 5 times, 2 of those were shutouts
L has kept M to 1 score or less 3 times
There have been 5 of these games decided by 1 score or less
Lincolnton's last win versus Maiden was 37-12 in 2015

Since 2016, Coach Byrne:
Is 6-0 versus L, all being conference games
2-0 at home, 4-0 away
Has outscored L 214-98 (avg 36-16)
Highest scoring game: M 65-47
Lowest scoring game: M 13-0
L kept to 1 score or less 3 times with 1 shutout

It's 2022 CVAC, both teams are capable of winning this game. If any team can knock us off our game, it'd be Lincolnton. Last year they ground&pound for 3 quarters and kept our offense off the field. Kept the game closer than it could have been. More than talent, this game will come down to game plan. Lincolnton will bring their best, we can't waste any offensive possessions and our defense should give no quarter.

I won't be there tonight for our Senior Night as much as I want to be. It's my nephews Senior Night with Bandys...so I'll get to see that barn-burner against West Caldwell 🤮. I wish the best for both teams tonight, play safe.

Play violent through the whistle, keep your head on a swivel, and LET THE SMOKE ROOOLLLLLL!!!

I have always said that Maiden is our biggest rival. The East Lincoln rivalry just is not the same anymore with all of the growth on that end of the county, you do not have kids growing up playing with or against each other like in the past to add to the intensity. We still have that with Maiden.

Not only can we say it...but the numbers don't lie either. I wish I had the full records of all the matchups between these two teams...I'll need to take an afternoon off work and go to the school library and go through all the annuals and take record of all the games each season...I wonder if they have all the annuals since 1953?

David Keever would be the man to talk to. I am sure Richard Walker could help with that as well.
