Flyrod, had designated all CVAC matchups as Games of the week. Here are my picks:
Bandys at Bunker Hill: If we could get by West Lincoln and if the Trojans could beat the Bears we would be conference champs, and It would assure us of at least a home game in the playoffs. Taking the conference and a home playoff game are things we haven't experienced in eight years. How nice that would be ! In their last two outings BH was soundly beaten by Maiden and taken to the wire by Newton-Conover. I'm thinking they are due for a big win and I'm worried this week will be it, unless AMD knows something I don't. Bunker Hill by 10.
West Caldwell at East Burke: The Cavaliers played West Lincoln to within 7, last week. Don't see the Warriors winning this one. EB by 28.
Maiden at Newton-Conover: The world's oldest rivalry. First time ever seeing Maiden play (That I can remember) must have been sometime in the late 60's. They had the Spake brothers and Neil Abernathy. Remember the overflow crowd, good hot dogs and not knowing anyone, but recall thinking "This is a serious football town". They were in the Southern District 7, back then, which was a tough league. I also recall how fired up their team was when they came onto the field. Anyway, suppose the point I'm trying to make is emotion seems to be a fuel additive for them, so I'm thinking they'll be really fired up after after last weeks letdown. Glad we don't have them this week, but they will have to guard against the Red Devils who are a dangerous team with plenty of speed...Maiden by 12.
West Lincoln at Lincolnton: All of a sudden I'm feeling tired, again. What concerns me about this week, is last weeks emotional win. I recall us and other having these super wins and coming out the week after and lapsing into a flatness, so to speak. Wonder if Maiden might have experienced this recently, if you get my drift. We will have to play hard and take it to West. We cannot rely on fourth quarter comebacks. We have to jump on them quick and play an entire game. As always they will come after us. The wolves by 7.
Side Note: A Happy Halloween to fellow posters, hope you can find some enjoyment in it. Heard that AMD was going to go dressed as a peace activist, LOL, that'd be a plot twist. If he does then maybe it's time to put his assets in the nursing home instead of mine. Oh, favored teams are in bold.
Side Note: And now, for your listening enjoyment a mild uplifting classical melody from the Southern Catawba Organ and Harpsichord Society, commemorating Halloween, and at the request of fine townsman Maiden Creek, tune entitled "Standing by the fence and sneering at our opponents." 👇
