Catawba Valley 2A Early Outlook

AMD, one last thing about the "Come Get Some" mobile: I know enough about physics to understand that, for example, if a car is going at say 40 MPH (or any other speed), and then it hits another car, the car will come to a sudden stop, and if the driver isn't buckled into his seat, then he will keep going into the steering wheel, the dash and windshield at the same speed the car was going before it came to a sudden stop (The basis for the seat belt law).

I noticed on the picture that there is what looks like another industrial grade steel grate over the driver's side of the windshield. Surely, certainly, they must have an extra-strong seat belt to hold you in the car. Seat belts for motorist are there in the in the the event of a crash. In your case, the possibility of a crash is not in question. THERE IS DEFINITELY GOING TO BE A CRASH. If you're not buckled in good, sooner or later, you're going into the steel grate windshield and it's going to transform you into a waffle. They do require you to buckle up, don't they ?o_O

*Hope they don't take their cue from the words of Nick Romano, in Knock on any door, "Live fast, die young and have a good-looking corpse".
And as u have met me. U now I'm a big guy, so I take my windshield out so that I can make a fast exit in case of fire or emergency. Some people leave windshield in.

AMD, that makes sense about removing the windshield in case of fire. Hope they limit how much gas you can drive with.
Actually, I’d think there are a lot of things to consider in that kind of competition.

It occurs to me there are some people who are drawn to toeing that thin line what separates one side from the other, and I believe you might be one of them. Suppose it’s why people jump out of planes, scale mountains do bungee jumps and ride motorcycles.

* Oh, about the calmer version of the crashing car, you right. It does strike me as a little more serene, ‘bout like the 1947 avtomat kalashnikova.☠️

I can see ole BOOM! Devil now….tearing down the track while playing a tune from “Nicky Youre, Dazy” called “Sunroof” …sporting a blue devil helmet with no face mask and using his pinky nail to get the bugs outta his teeth!😂

Very dependable those avtomat Kalashnikov kinda like me 🤣🤣

Thanks for the Photo, AMD. Last week it was only dirt. There was a tractor parked in it and a hill of dirt. There was always a good crest on the field to allow for proper drainage.
I’ll miss the smell of cut grass from the start of the season through most of October.
Later in the fall and after some cold nights the grass would turn an ash color. Sometimes, when the playoffs began the field would be lined off in black.
It would be nice to see a home playoff game again.:)

Speaking of crowns/crest... I think East Lincoln has the biggest crown on a field in this area at the moment. I swear if you're on the sideline it looks like you're looking uphill. It used to give our former quarterback Brandon finger fits, he was very well the whole season except for if he played at East Lincoln. There he would throw in the dirt or way overheads.

The Surratts sure had it figured out. 😉

This post reminded me that I have some pictures of the old ball coach on the sidelines in his last game. East Burke at East Lincoln….I believe it was 3rd round.
Sooo…I looked at them again. You’re right…you can’t see the opposing coaches feet…really you can only see about mid shin and up. I’m gonna miss that about their ball field.

Can’t help but chuckle…I also have photo where he is chewing an officials ear off about a pivotal call that was made during that game as well. It’s a classic!..and a video of him as the clock runs to zero …it’s a classic too.

Good stuff!

All the more reason it shouldn’t have been a swamp when Thomasville played them there in the playoffs in 2012. Unless of course, there was an artificial assist😊

I noticed that over there a couple years ago when we played them the field felt water logged. Like I was walking on a gym mat

People use to talk about old maiden field crown and the advantage it gave us running down hill lol. There was magic in that old stadium but it wasn't the crown lol. It was the fans being right on top of the field and intimidating the opponents. Didn't give them space to breathe.

At the original Tom Brown you were almost on top of the action. When the quarterback was looking for a receiver you could even hear the sound of the defenders rushing him, and the pop of tackles.
When a running back would try and cut the corners he had to slow down or risk going past the narrow sidelines and over the waist high fence.
Around here, it was always rumored that Coach Brown personally designed the original field. If that’s so, he might have come up with the idea of the Creek Gang who were always there to welcome visitors

Hearing about 30 kids came out to first day of spring practice. But also gotta figure some athletes weren't there because of other sports

When there is a will there is a way. I would like to see us take the next step and really commit to our program. A new field house/athletic complex benefits everyone, not just football.
Oh, a new one, you say...I'd better revise my estimate. Closer to a million, I'd guess. Legislative action may do it, but unless we can tap into the Charter School's resources, prolly not happening...

Early this evening I was over there. The new turf really looks good with that big wolf in the middle. The colors are pretty, too. I walked to the edge to feel of it. Its consistency felt about like grass but a little more coarse, as though it might give you a carpet burn. I'm happy for any improvement to our stadium.

OC, here are the new turf shoes. Anybody can buy them, probably down at SouthPark Mall in Charlotte. Problem is, they cost more than a new field house. Actually, they cost more than the court house. Shoes like these should come with an alarm system like a Bentley or a Maybach that will activate the horn and blinkers should someone walk to close to them.

Turf burn is worse than Road Rash from what I been told lol and Speaking of Beautiful turf…. I went by Hickory HS and That Garnet and Gold combo looks really nice.

Maiden has a digital down marker.

eDOWN😜

Field looks great! Wolves…I can’t wait to see it.
You know, a digital down marker would be a nice addition. If there was a way to attach a digital advertisement we could probably get a local business to buy one for us. I can see it now: “Hey fans, stop by Mom’s Sub Shop where all our sandwiches are named for town’s and communities. Our sub of the week, The Boger City, with fresh lettuce, cheese and capocollo”.
Probably wouldn’t work, though, The chain team would keep complaining about the sign being too awkward to carry.

Post script: If you Maiden fans are wondering if Mom’s has a sandwich named for Maiden, yer d@mn right, they do. It’s ham and cheese.

It should improve greatly when they add the rubber infill.
AWAW, yesterday, a flat bed semi unloaded a lot of very large rolls that were sealed in vinyl or plastic. When I was over there I noticed something was handwritten on these rolls and I thought it said filter but since you mentioned it I wonder if it wasn’t filler rather than filter.
