Catawba Valley 2A Early Outlook

I see we got a star speeder coming up from EB middle. Dude is fast and May make immediate impact on a skill position at least by 10th grade. Has a fast younger brother too. Had a faster 100M time than all but 2 of the high schools sprinters. If he can move with the football skillfully and shifty or learn to… thumbs up.

No that don’t mean we world beaters I’m just saying there’s at least alittle positive in EBs athlete drought coming up that I was talking bout lol

Here is an interesting tidbit. Newton Conover has had one winning season in The last 5 years. If any Newton people look on here and have kids that would be playing there, y'all might want to look a little more south 😉😂😂

AMD, we've had 0 winning seasons in the past six years but we finished 6-6 this past year. I don't think the Blue Devils are that desperate for key players. I was always excited when someone transferred in who could help out, but it seems special when you know someone is from here and you know them and their family. People around here don't forget local players and their accomplishments, and for some that means something. I remember people who played here over sixty years ago.

Seems like yesterday to me.
It was 1978, and championship games were at the home field of the east champion one year, and at the home field of the west champion the next. This particular year it was played in Maiden. They were hosting the Tabor City Red Devils, who to the best of my memory had blown away everybody they faced and I'm thinking they were coached by hall of famer Jack Holley. If that is correct, he and Coach Brown would both end up being two of the winningest coaches in North Carolina high school football history and both inducted into the NCHSAA football hall of fame.

I really wanted to see this matchup but I had to work. It was awfully cold and I had an AM radio that would pick up the broadcast from WNNC in skips, but Maiden won 36-14. There was an online newspaper article published years after this game. I'm thinking the writer was a sports columnist from The Whiteville News Reporter (their local paper), who was recalling some of his memorable games. He mentioned "Coach Tom Brown pacing the sidelines, in shorts, on a bitterly cold Catawba County night".

I talked with some of the Tabor City fans who were staying at one of the hotels, here, in Lincolnton and remember how disappointed they were. I know how they felt, I've walked in those shoes, too. No matter, the road getting there is well worth it, even at the risk of feeling that old sickening hurt when your team loses.

Side Note: Just for the sake of a little trivia, Ohio State offensive coordinator and current Tulsa Head Coach, Kevin Wilson, would have been playing for Maiden in that game.

Post Script: Maiden Creek: I know that you know Coach Wilson and you and some other Maiden friends would travel to Columbus to watch the Buckeyes play. Now that he is in Tulsa are you going to make the thousand mile trip, there ? For some reason I have a feeling you will. If you do, and you happen to run into Johnny Cade and Pony Boy Curtis, tell them I said to leave knives alone. They'll understand.

Not this year...but next year Tulsa will play at UNC Charlotte...I'm sure there will be Maiden blue all over the place.

You know it….we’re headed West.

Headed to Greenville too I believe…Tulsa plays at ECU this year. Hoping I get to see a high school game down there that weekend as well.

‘78!😉

I use to work with a guy in Newton that played on that 1978 Maiden Championship team. Never will forget we had tons of conversations about Maiden football and it’s history.

AMD, It’s saying the tweet is unavailable. I clicked on it anyway but nothing was there.

AMD, Where in the world did you get something like that ? It looks like the front bumper is a steel I-beam that was stick welded onto a heavy steel grate which serves as the "vehicle's" grill. I believe that thing came from Fort Bragg. A skid steer wouldn't have much of a chance against "Come Get Some". Darn !

Pretty close.... steel tube with heavy duty grate all welded to front of the car. Don't matter if wolves or bears get in my way I'm going old school smash mouth 🤣🤣🤣

In case y’all didn’t know…West Caldwell won a baseball game last week.

In some twisted way…I’ve found solace in knowing that and feel somewhat vindicated.😜

Let’s go Warriors!
West Caldwells only bright spot as far as anything spring goes is a decent girls softball team (. 500 or better at least) and a good sprinter on the track team.

Next week y’all, another reminder, get on down to Bunker Hill May 4th let’s see this combine ahh ahh hem excuse me Track Meet

Ok as far as track goes in reference to West Caldwell, one name sticks out above the rest and always will, a real track legend- Willy Perry. Dude set crazy records not only unbeatable at West but prob the whole side of the state west of Charlotte. Went on to run at UF Gators…I think, correct me on any of this if I’m wrong

You won't see any Maiden athletes we have actual football practice

AMD, one last thing about the "Come Get Some" mobile: I know enough about physics to understand that, for example, if a car is going at say 40 MPH (or any other speed), and then it hits another car, the car will come to a sudden stop, and if the driver isn't buckled into his seat, then he will keep going into the steering wheel, the dash and windshield at the same speed the car was going before it came to a sudden stop (The basis for the seat belt law).

I noticed on the picture that there is what looks like another industrial grade steel grate over the driver's side of the windshield. Surely, certainly, they must have an extra-strong seat belt to hold you in the car. Seat belts for motorist are there in the in the the event of a crash. In your case, the possibility of a crash is not in question. THERE IS DEFINITELY GOING TO BE A CRASH. If you're not buckled in good, sooner or later, you're going into the steel grate windshield and it's going to transform you into a waffle. They do require you to buckle up, don't they ?o_O

*Hope they don't take their cue from the words of Nick Romano, in Knock on any door, "Live fast, die young and have a good-looking corpse".

Lol I wear a full face helmet and I wear factory seat belt. I do have a 5 point harness and I may put it in there. I did go stupid one year and the seat belt locked up before race and I didn't wear it. Thinking it's fine no big deal. Then last lap a guy turned me into the concrete wall at hickory motor speedway and I will say I felt that for a couple weeks afterwards.
