It's the home opener for the Cougars who are coming off a very tough loss to rival Charlotte Christian. What killed Catholic was turnovers(4) and mental mistakes. However, there were some bright spots. The Cougars who are pretty young never got too out of it emotionally even down 20-6 in the second half. The young guys responded very well.
The key for the Cougars this week is going to be correcting mental mistakes. I do not think we'll see Catholic turn over the ball 4 times. Keeping sustained drives early in the game and setting the tone of the game early is key. Wesley Alexander and Angle Morrero I think are going to be the key, if those two can get going it could be a long night for the Chargers.
Also John Newman and Jimmy Abate are looking to be the top 2 receivers for the Cougars. Look for a few young guys also: Ari Rodriguez(Soph. DL), Michael Neal(Soph. RB), Kevin Coss(Soph. LB), Malik McGowen(Fresh LT). Malik is the first Catholic freshman to start in 14 years that I rememeber. Adam Farley may have started as a freshman, but I don't remember.
I think Catholic all in all will be fine, the OL has a game under their belt and I expect them to play much better as the season goes on.
I think Catholic wins this by 2 scores and opens the home season with a W and gets back on track!
I'll fill in more analysis later.
