Amazing at all the rumors out there floating around the Barneyboro football recruiting progress. The Youmans Connection into Mecklenburg county is Paying Dividends for the Barney boys. Sounds like there has been a big lineman from Charlotte that's been enrolled at Mayberry since December with 2 more skill players coming. One being a impressive wide reciever. Hearing a couple is coming from across the creek to. Info coming from staff across the creek. Funny how you hear things when moseying around. These Barney boys are gonna be real tough again with rumors the defense is somehow gonna be improved. 30 strong in the weight room every morning before class. Buzz boy , Td last night, whitley, the friday night phenom called rough and others seems to havent heard a word . With this kind of portal activity i stand by my post on the other thread , TARBORO is playing for second place again in the Barneyboro invitational

Catawba County Rankings

1. Hickory - Hickory once again is one the favorites to win it all again. Hickory QB Brady Stober committed to Samford University. Hickory didn’t lose much and will be speedy and athletic once again.

2A : Maiden: Maiden went 8-4 (5-2) last yr and they return a good core back offensively with their QB, RB and 2 WRs with production back at offensively and they will be a seasoned team with a lot Seniors this season on both sides of the ball. They lost quality teams last year in Watauga, Bunker Hill and West Lincoln. West Lincoln will be a tough outing again this season and also Watauga. Maiden has the potential to do well this season.

2B : Bandys: Bandy will be still good offensively but Youth on the Defensive side will be the ? For the Trojans. They will still able to score but will they be able to stop them? Last yr they went 6-5 (3-4). They do return their QB but lost their best RB and WR but they do have others that had production last yr to step in. Same on defensive side as well.

4. St Stephens: Last year 1-9 (1-6). The record doesn’t indicate it but St Stephen wasn’t that bad as they had some success moving the ball at times but lack of depth n getting worn down was the enemy last season. They return their QB, prob one of the best RB in area in Brycen Gaither , 2 top WRs back as well. I heard they had a solid Freshmen class come in and they have some pieces their to have a productive season. Also Kyle Lowman is a good coach so I can see St Stephens winning a few this season.

5. Newton Conover - New Staff and lost a lot of guys from last year but They do have a Solid QB back and 1 WR back. They will have a lot new faces in spots. They will struggle bit but Wilson will have them competitive.

6. Fred T Foard: Foard is Foard and We all know what the run and do. Foard has the ability to win some this year.

7. Bunker Hill - Mighty has fallen - Bunker Hill was hit HARD by Graduation but Only saving Grace is RB Jason Willis Jr who is among one of the best RB I have ever seen in person. They have to rebuild and Willis will prob be the focal point this year but can he be a 1 man band like Josh Ladowski was back in 2014 (Lake Norman HS) ? Will see what Bunker Hill offers but Might be a long season on the Hill.

Jonathan Simmons delivered an impassioned message at SoMeck football media day on Saturday. High school transfers are on the rise in the Charlotte area. With the increased use of the NCAA transfer portal at the collegiate level, high school athletes aren’t being recruited nearly as much anymore.

Simmons, the head coach at Palisades High, explained that he feels there now exists a negative connotation when players move to different schools. Kids and their families make decisions to change schools and/or relocate for a variety of reasons. And with this advent of some nationally-ranked high schoolers changing uniforms, it’s always important to remember that there are things in life that are much bigger than sports. He noted that the mother of a young player at Palisades recently took a job in Raleigh — thus moving him to Rolesville High.

Simmons said he was immediately asked by a media member if Rolesville had recruited the player. “It’s a little bit of a negative connotation — being put on kids, families and coaches — regarding players and families moving to different schools,” Simmons said. “Kids’ families are going to move for the best interest of their child. Maybe have to move because of a re-home, because of a new job, shorter commute home, whatever the reason is. TOP VIDEOS “They need sports — we do a great job with it. We get kids to school. People win championships. But right now, it’s starting to become a witch hunt. Where every time a kid moves, it’s something negative.

I think it’s disrespectful to the kid. It’s disrespect to the family. And it’s disrespecting the coaches and administrators who do a thankless job.”

My Pre-Season Top 5 1A

1. Mount Airy
2. Tarboro
3. Mountain Heritage
4. Starmount
5. Eastern Randolph

I'm not comfortable going any further than top 5 because I don't know what Robbinsvillle, Swain, Murphy, North Rowan, and any Eastern teams have coming back.

Let's keep it civil and leave all name-calling out of this. I know a lot of people come here to find out information and love to read about other teams. Please be respectful of others.

Granite Bears 3-peat as Conference Cup winners

Mount Airy earned the title of the top athletic program in the Northwest 1A Conference for the third consecutive year, while fellow Surry County school Elkin secured the No. 2 spot.
The Wells Fargo Conference Cup awards points based on a school’s finish in the conference standings for each sport. The Conference Cup is a companion to the Wells Fargo State Cup, which awards points to schools based on postseason performances.

Realignment - My proposed conferences

I am taking a stab at what the conferences could look like for 2025-2029. I tried to use no more than 3 classifications in split leagues. Also tried to get 6 football schools in each league, but it didn't always happen. I did 58 schools in 8A-2A and 38 in 1A, including public schools opening in 2025 and 2026. Allows for schools 306 and smaller to have their own championships except in football (2A/1A combined.)

I know not everyone will agree on these, but wanted to know what you think (feedback please).
