Heard that Owen was going to be pretty decent this year and looked like killers against Thomas Jefferson.

Then also heard they got dismantled by East Rutherford on Friday….

Seems conflicting on how they will be since East didn’t have a program two years ago.

Anyone got any insight?

A little history: the old reel-to-reel tapes of the games were converted to VHS about 15 years ago. I was on what they now call injured reserve for my senior season (1969) but coach Morris asked me to keep the stats for the team.

I still had my play-by-play notes and stats all those years later so I got together with the producer (Ram fan and tech expert Tim Bates) and former radio guy Wes Overby (aka RamBBQ). Wes used my script to narrate the video.

Mt. Airy and Pisgah fans: Obviously the video has a Reidsville slant with the call of the tackles, etc. But I think you'll enjoy watching it anyway.

Here is the game I’m planning on heading to. From what I’m seeing North Iredell new turf looks really good along with the surrounding view of the school.
As for North Iredell I have no clue what they have. South will be primarily young. As far as I know they will start a sophomore QB and have some new pieces in some areas.I think we possibly could see a good game.
My prediction. I will take South for the win. But wouldn’t surprise me if it was close or North Iredell pulls one out.

Just heard Paul McNeil of Richmond county is transferring again. Word of God Christian academy in Raleigh

Where to begin with this one.

The new NW coach Chris Rusiewicz pulled one of the most ridiculous things I've seen from a NW Coach. On the very last play the East Forsyth WR ran a post & the NWG safety came in with the crown of helmet down and literally KO'd the East kid. 1st I hope he's OK because he was definitely knocked out.

I don't have any issue with the play. What I do have issues with is NOBODY on the NW staff corrected the play that would have cost us 15 yards and the player would have been ejected and could seriously hurt someone. Instead the NW players & coaches started celebrating??? What pisses me off as a NW fan Is we were getting the crap kicked out of us all day. Nobody celebrated anything football related then we celebrate a cheap shot on a HS kid.

Well it didn't sit right with Willert and rightfully so. He approached Rusiewicz and basically blasted him for allowing his coaches and players to celebrate their kid making an illegal football play when most of the day players were easing up and not killing defenseless players.

What does coach Rusiewicz do. Screams at the top of his lungs "you're not going to F'ing talk to me like the HS coaches I'm a F'ing college coach". Then this guy Proceeds to pull his entire team off the field. Gets on the bus and quits. What a freaking Joke!

As a NW fan this was the most embarrassing thing I've seen in 40 years. 1st off you're not a college coach you're a HS coach. 2nd your squad was getting absolutely blasted save some of that energy to fix those mistakes. 3rd to teach your kids to quit and walk away is feeding into that entitlement mindset that a lot of these young men already have.

As someone who follows NW and East this was embarrassing. Not a great way to start your career at NW. The offense looked average at best and the defense looked awful.

Hope the young man is OK. East is going to be pretty good this yr again. NWG if we play like that we are not the #2 team in the Metro. Not even top 4.

How are things going with the new coaching staff? What can we expect with the new offense? Defense? Excited and optimistic that SS can turn this around faster than expected. South Davidson has.... So can SS. Go Bulls.

Does anybody else see what’s going on at Clinton high school? They’re openly recruiting guys like this is division 1 college football. NEITHER of the D1 commits they have right now are Clinton kids. The South Carolina commit from a few years back? Not a Clinton kid either. REAL Clinton fans, Clinton people, are y’all really happy about this? Back in the day, Clinton used to win State Titles with home grown, Clinton kids. Now they recruit all over the state of North Carolina just to make the 3rd round of the state playoffs. Anything other than a title this year for Clinton is an absolute failure. To me, as a complete bystander, this sucks the fun and culture out of high school football. I just wanted to see if anyone else had an opinion on this.

It's always hard to get a gauge on teams from that corner of the state. I found these highlights on youtube on NE scrimmage. They look explosive as usual. Beat a Green Run team who made the 5A State semi-final last year and have a bunch of D1 commits returning. Safe to say they should be in the runnings again.

It appears that the 31-year-old Coach Johnson, a graduate of Jack Britt, is continuing to mold the future of Clinton football by working with all the local young kids.

He once expressed his gratitude to Scotland's Coach Richard Bailey for having faith in him at an early age. Johnson once referred to Bailey as the best coach in North Carolina when he was just out of college and a new play-caller.

I’ve seen someone wanted a SMC JV thread. Are they going to mix up who everyone plays this year or is it the same as last year?

Heard earlier this week we had less than 40 head total show up. Probably not gonna field a JV team.

Got a few good games on tap this week. Here is my predictions for week 1. What do you think?

Thomasville-Randleman: Bulldogs open with a tough game against a solid team week one. Dogs defense has looked strong in preseason scrimmages but has to tighten up against the deep pass a bit. Bulldogs offense is moving the ball and has several big play makers touching the ball that made big plays in scrimmages. Randleman is pretty big on the line and has a good QB, RB and WR to stop. I got the Bulldogs winning 28-14 with that stout defense leading the way.

Salisbury-N Davidson: Another strong matchup between two teams that haven't played in a few seasons. Salisbury is loaded with athletes and riding multiple winning seasons and has a QB, RB and WR that are hard to contain. ND is always a solid team but often struggles to put it together early. The veteran Hornets win this one 35-21.

West Davidson-Wheatmore: Both have been pretty down lately so this one could be a toss up. West is always big and will come out hard but fade down the stretch once they get behind. Wheatmore was bad last season but looked decent in the scrimmages so I think Wheatmore has enough to grab the win 14-10.

Lexington-Parkland: The Jackets sound like they are improving but I will go with the bigger school Parkland. The Mustangs will run around Lexington using depth the Jackets do not have and win big 35-0.

E Davidson-P Grove: East did not impress in the scrimmage at HP Stadium this week and looks to be struggling with finding its way offensively. Defensively they look slow to the ball. PG is coming off several good seasons and is more athletic so they get the win 31-7.

S Davidson-J Matthews: SD has loaded their early schedule up to get some wins and this will be one of them. JM is a shell of what they were years ago and is struggling to get any wins in football. SD is not where they need to be but will win this game 28-7.

N Rowan-E Rowan: NR is always a pretty good team and competes well against ER. NR is trying to revive itself back to the better days of playoff winning football. ER was 1-9 in 22-23 and will not beat NR this year. NR wins 40-14.
