South Point @ Shelby: I expect a packed house Thursday night, w/ some supporters of Crest, Burns, KM, Lincolnton, and others to possibly come spectate, do a little scouting. As for the game, sorry South Point fans, but WWII era football won't get it done versus a stout Shelby D. As a raider fan mentioned in another thread, yeah, your fullback is putting up decent numbers, but he's not the bruising, tackle breaker you all are accustomed to having in recent years. And, we want y'all to pass, your passing game is still very much suspect. Only thing that somewhat concerns me is the exotic blitz packages that South Point will bring, It will be a big stage for the Shelby quarterback, but he has to stay poised and make good decisions. Burns @ Central Cabarrus: I want to go with the Dawgs in this one. It will be a good test for an up and coming Burns team. I will go with the home team in this battle, though. CC 31 Burns 21

Crest vs Bye: the Chargers are off. They have an identity crisis on offense and need to find some. Scoring 14 versus Ashbrook isn't encouraging at all.

Big-time matchup between defending 2A state champion, Shelby and 3A runner-up South Point on Thursday night.

These two teams have resurrected an old rivalry from the Southwestern 3A conference days for the past 4 seasons, with South Point winning 2 of the 3 match-ups, and Shelby looking to even the 4-year non-conference series at 2-2.

Beginning next season Shelby and South Point will join the same conference, once again, along with East Gaston, RS Central, Chase, and East Rutherford, to form a new 6-team 2A conference.

Last 3 match-ups:
2013 - South Point won 35-24
2014 - South Point won 44-39
2015 - Shelby won 35-28

Shelby comes in 2-0, with 49-0 and 35-14 wins over Freedom and AC Reynolds.

South Point comes in 1-1, with a 27-12 win over two-time defending 3AA state champion Crest, and a heart-breaking 25-24 OT loss to Lincolnton.

The Union Pines-North Moore football rivalry ending because of next years's NCHSAA conference realignment??? What a bunch of bull!!! UP drops from a seven-team conference to a six-team league while North Moore drops from a nine-team football conference to an eight-team conference for football. Surely, both schools can accommodate each other.

This rivalry goes back to when both teams were members of the Central Tar Heel 2A Conference throughout the 70s and early 80s. This rivalry also dates back to the 60s when both schools opened. And, UP usually brings North Moore its biggest gates and vice versa.

The air will have a tinge of fancy French perfume from the V neck wearing Page Moms , as the Pirate's ship comes sailing up Church Street to visit Johnny Roscoe Stadium and the Nighthawks of Northern Guilford. Will Page have regrouped slash rocouped from last weeks ten point loss to Davie County or will the Pirates sashay into Mister Rosce's House Of Birdlings with stealing and plundering on their agenda. The Mounties travel a long way again Friday night. Andrews got their first win for their new coach last week. Should be a good one.
