2015 Southeastern 4A Conference Pre-season Predictions

1. Scotland, 5-0 conference, 10-1 overall
2. Pinecrest, 4-1, 9-2
3. Richmond Senior, 3-2, 7-4
4. Lumberton, 2-3, 7-4
5. Hoke County, 1-4, 2-9
6. Purnell Swett, 0-5, 3-8

Scotland will win its fifth consecutive Southeastern 4A Conference title. If the Fighting Scots are possibly challenged, then, they could be challenged by Pinecrest. This could be the Patriots best team in school history. But, I am sure lots of folks haven't forgot what happened two years ago in Laurinburg when these two teams met.

Richmond Senior is in a "transition phase" this season with its new coaching staff. Seven regular season wins may be too generous of a prediction.

Lumberton will maintain the top of the bottom tier of the league and may challenge one of the first tier teams. Hoke County and Purnell Swett will be fighting to stay out of the conference cellar.

2015 Cape Fear Valley 3A Conference Pre-season Predictions

1. Terry Sanford, 6-0 conference, 11-0 overall
2. Gray's Creek, 5-1, 9-2
3. Southern Lee, 4-2, 7-4
4. Lee County 3-3, 7-4
5. Union Pines 2-4, 6-5
6. Douglas Byrd, 1-5, 2-9
7. Westover, 0-6, 0-11

Terry Sanford will repeat as Cape Fear Valley Conference champions, but they will get a strong challenge from Gray's Creek and it's strong rushing attack. I think this game will definitely be the key game for the conference title.

Southern Lee will beat its neighborhood rival, Lee County for third place in the conference. Union Pines comfortably holds the fifth place spot in the league, while Douglas Byrd and Westover will still suffer through growing pains and fight to stay out of the conference basement.

HP Central @ North Davidson August 21

Gotta chance to check out my alma mater High Point Central at the Dudley scrimmage, the Bison in my honest opinion looked like they needed the most to work on out of all the teams that I saw. The offense looked like it was still trying to find its rhythm, they have some some studs in the staple though, both running backs Chavis Little and Geoffrey Wall are gonna be a tough combo to stop so the potential is there.......it's going to come down to coaching though. If they're going to try and run the same type of offense they did last year then it's going to be a long season for the Bison......the Qb they've had the past two seasons was a different animal he's gone now. They're going to have to simplify things for the young Qb they have now, do some roll outs, get the young man on the move and the ball out of his hands quick, work the screen game and quick outs in the flat could be a recipe for success as far as passing goes. Ultimately the success of this team is going to come down to whether the offensive line can get some push and we can feature the running game which is the strength of the team. The defense is what it is at this point, the Dline they started at the scrimmage looked undersized to me, hopefully they can play some of those studs on the offensive line both ways and get some bulk on defense in the trenches..

But alot of work and improvement has to be made from now until next week at North Davidson if the Bison want to even have a chance to win that game against ND.

Charlotte Latin at Albemarle Scrimmage

Latin never lets me down. Very good solid team at all positions, well coached and very athletic. Albemarle was no match for their first team on either side of the ball. Their QB was out standing in all phases of the game. However when they put most of their second team in we were able to move the ball very well. I don't think we will face a team any better than Latin this season. WM, Concord and maybe Thomasville might be as good but not better.
I still like our offense. We just need to kept on keeping on and when the timing gets better I think we will be OK. This team is very young and they will get better. Think the final score was Latin 4 Albemarle 2.
OK guys lets get ready for the red dogs from Thomasville next week.

SMC picks contest!

I got tired of waiting for BK and went ahead and set this up. BK, if you want to run a pick'em, that's fine with me, since you do have first call on it. I can drop this one with no problem. But just in case you don't, let's get this thing going! :D

Thanks to tvilledawg and ObserveAndReport, this contest uses a new scoring system. You pick the number of points you want for each game (starting out with from 1 to 5 for all games), and the winner. If your team wins, you score your chosen number of points. If they lose... you LOSE that number of points. Same scoring system as Jeopardy uses. This should keep things interesting up through the end of the year.

It looks like this:

Code:
         1 5 6 10
Visitor O O O O O O O O O O Home

There are 10 radio buttons (the O's in the diagram) between Visitor and Home, numbered 1 to 10 (that's what Google will let me do). Clicking on button #1 is a 5-point pick for the Visitors. Button #10 is a 5-point Home pick. #5 is a 1-point Visitor pick, and #6 is a 1-point Home pick. And so on....

All the SMC games will be in, and three other games: a WNC game (from the WHC, WNCAC, or MAC), a non-SMC 1A game, and OMD's Game of the Week (which scores double your point pick, from 2 to 10).

Here's the link to the Week 1 games:

http://goo.gl/forms/tmcqKwvTPl

I'm using Google Forms to run the contest, so you will need a Google account to play if you don't already have one (but I bet most of you do, if you use Gmail or Google Docs). If you don't have one, it's free.

Surveys are anonymous, so you have to give your Preps user name. We're working on the honor system. Only submit for yourself! :)

You only get one entry, but you can change your picks up till the deadline (which is 30 minutes before the scheduled start time of the earliest game that week).

Good luck to all players!

CPC Preseason run down... Rankings

It should be a wild season in the CPC and I have 3 favorites to win the Title

First of all, I'm a West Forsyth Fan and they have a tremendous offensive nucleus led by 3 year starting QB Darion Slade who carries multiple offers. West has virtually the entire offense back for 2015; extremely talented at the skilled positions with Jordan Terry, Schiem Lindsay and Cooper Larue, son of Rusty Larue as WR's They have two speedy, hard nose RB's that are instant impact in sophomore Marcus Caldwell & Junior Jerome Warren. The O-Line has Zavier Hensley, Kyad Agha & Evan Bentley and some talented young guns that know how to block, how to win.

Now the defense, it took some serious losses to graduation and replacing All-CPC players Jalen Dalton(UNC), Luke Hedrick(Navy) Kedlin Huntley(Guilford College) left huge holes to fill. They return 3 stars in DE John "Baer" Hunter who has 10+ offers, LB Antonio Booe and LB Tyki Lawson Oates but they'll break in a new secondary and that's why I can't pick them outright 1st place but one of my favorites to win the CPC.

North Davidson lost Shy Tuttle(Tennessee) & Josh Thomas(WSSU) but they are still loaded with McKoy and Joe Butts, make them a favorite every year because of great coaching and reloading. A sure fire favorite...

Mt Tabor was young last year and it showed with erratic play on the field but they are talented. Have one of the best WR in the country in Divine Deablo. Make them a favorite.

Reagan HS lost QB Jake Easter to App St. He torched defenses and they are still the Defending CPC Champs. They also lost my favorite WR to NC State Chandler Belk who's stats were off the charts. Coach McGee is the best coach in the CPC so it's going to be fun to watch them rebuild. Don't be surprised when McGee develops another great QB. I got them 4th...but they are a great sleeper.

RJR- hard times for a traditional power house of many years ago. 5th place

David Co- I think the program has hit rock bottom. It's dissension among coaches and parents. Cade Carney has transferred and I see multiple problems for this traditional power house. It could be a long year... One of the best, most rabid fanbases deserve to be on top again. 6th place

Parkland...well it's just a matter of one more year of torcher for the Mustangs before they drop to 3A. Last place

Thomasville at Albemarle

Two old rivals facing off to open the season. I was just thinking the kids playing in this game have only heard about the great rivalry between these 2 teams only a few short years ago. I have been watching HS football for many years and the games especially in the early 2000's were some of the best football games I have ever seen. We didn't like each other but both teams had great respect for each other. Both programs have come upon hard times so I don't expect this game to a classic. But on the other hand it just might be. Go BLUE Dogs.

Its Time....

Most, in not all of our teams, get the season unofficially started this weekend with scrimmage/jamborees. I know I am excited and can hardly wait for tonight. My Tarboro Vikings should have another good year with double digit wins and another deep playoff run. I wanted to take a moment before we all get rolling here to wish everyone much luck this year. I hope we all have enjoyable seasons and walk away feeling good about our teams. Please remember that win or lose the young men that make up the teams we watch are just kids and that they are out there all week long, including weekend film sessions, sacrificing for their team and for us, so support them with all you have. Our coaches too deserve our support...they take time away from their families to develop teams and work demanding hours in a sport that demands year round attention...a lot of these men have greater impacts on their players than the players own fathers. I cannot say enough about how admirable this is. All of these individuals, players and coaches, have been out there in 100 degree heat working to get ready for what starts this weekend-to all of them I say thank you for giving me the privilege of watching the greatest sport played in its purest form, where pride, honor and heart drive you, not money and greed. Only one team can walk away with the title in December but we all get to enjoy the journey. See all of you at the 50.

5000 posts....

Wow, in the years that I've been using NCPreps I've meet many a fine persons through this site. I recall the days when I found a Site talkin Football which our own Deana King was running. And that was ./.. golly back in the late 90's? So yes, I do use this site, for insights on up coming games. How to find the next Stadium, and even good spots to stop and eat. Through it all I've enjoyed so very much. Here's some of things I have found so cool. I can recall many of our Swain posters playing the game they loved so much wearing their Maroon. I've seen so many games now they've started to run together....LOL. As a fan I've had the pleasure of seeing 8 State Titles come to our little neck of the woods. Seen some great kids become fine young men and even Fathers. I recall the days of Boyce, yeah I was one of those kids way back in '77, and I wonder just how lucky I am to see so many great kids, players, teams and fans! Not only from Swain County but from all over this great State we call home.

I'm thankful for the good people I've seen and spoke too. I hope I didn't come off as too much of a Red Neck. LOL I know we've lost some fine posters too. I cried the day Maiden's Biggest Fan past, I got to speak to him and exchange a few E mails before he was called home. I think that we live in a great Age where we can use our home computers to follow high school football to such an extent. I recall in the "old days" we got our sound bites" from the Radio or our local papers. Now we can sit at home and find out play by play through the internet. Anyway I'm rambling again, just wanted to say thanks to all ya'll, for posting up and sounding off. Keep up the good work but always remember these players are 16 to 18 yr olds so be kind to'em.

Good luck to all on this next great season of football! 2015. GO BIG MAROON!

Reidsville vs. Marlboro County, SC (wed nite at N. Guilford)

Reidsville won the scrimmage 28-19 against a bigger squad...both showed signs of flashes..Rams returning 2 fumbles for TD's to take a 28-7 lead....Bulldogs were HUGE on the line...Reidsville has some size but looked small compared to them...speed on the field on both sides...a real good test for the Rams as they start for real next friday....................
