MAC 2015

It is now June, and with only a week or so of school left I thought it would be a good time to start looking ahead again to this next season. I believe most teams are finishing up their spring practice sessions. Anybody get a look at their team so far? Any transfers, injuries, etc.? I don't think there is a clear-cut favorite right now. You could probably make a case for Asheville, Reynolds, or Erwin.

Clinton vs Lakewood Scrimmage Aug 11th

Looking forward to getting a first look at the 2015 Clinton Dark Horses tonight as they Scrimmage in County rival Lakewood at 7pm....Some of the things I know me and some of the other Clinton faithful will be looking at is offensive line...lost Alot of seniors and from what Coach Lewis stated in a article this morning its going be a young group but he said the taelnt is there just a lack of experience....things that will help the o line is returning guard Joel Jones 6'3 250 started every game last year as a sophomore and Johnathon Wright returns at the TE position....something else look forward to seeing is this backfield...I heard rumblings that collectively this is the most explosive backfield ever....which is a huge statement being that once upon a time in the mid 90's we had 4 D1 players in the backfield but from what I'm hearing the backfield of Chris Williams,Ryheem Skinner,Tyion Wright, and Rayquan Faison is only to be something else.....On the defensive side of the ball wanna see what can of size we will have on the interior hearing that Prentice Murphy will still be played DE thought they might of moved him back to OLB after a performance at NC State camp.Coach Lewis stated in the article that they may try Johnathon Wright at the other DE spot so I'm curious to see who they will put at the other LB spots with Faison...backend of the defense will be good with Kavon Dessus as the anchor along with Tyion.....I'll have Alot more insight after tonight I'll post some observations while at the game really looking forward to it

SWE scrimmage overview...and yours.

SouthWest Edgecombe competed in a 4 team scrimmage tonight against host Greene Central (2A), West Craven (3A), and Rose (4A). I know that the point of a scrimmage is not to worry about winning, but to see what works and to work on what doesn't work, pretty much, so I won't be as flamboyant about the results as I would a normal game. Simply put, we seemed to move the ball pretty well against teams that had larger players than us, which were all three. But we also allowed teams to move the ball against u as well. Make no mistake, we had flashes of high caliber defense, but in the end, if each session was an actual game, the final score would have been very close. We handled Rose and their 4 star, All-State receiver well and did very well against GC's defense. West Craven, in my opinion, was a dead draw both times we played them. However, like I said earlier, all three teams did not struggle to dissect our defense either. I will say this though....I don't know if Rose was just trying to develop depth or if they just didn't care, but they were thoroughly outplayed by everybody. They looked....ok. But teams scored on them at will. I was surprised.
Anyway, tell me about your teams.

Orange Hi

'DonaldTrumpMo' staring at empty lockers mumbling names to empty air,
Cloer, Ta Jones, Zack and Big Bolden the cream of the crop had been harvested,
'DonaldTrumpMo' pulled out his comb and fixed his side car hair,
He said, 'The art of the deal may be sealed and my horse shoe is about to be tested',

I got a bunch of new bo's that few folks knows and other teams say its only fair,
Cause we been playing reel good and living high like eagles and its time that we get nested,
I may have to call Hillary or her hubby Bill to survive the other teams lair,
Or I may just say 'Im'a old has been who got lucky when the 2014 class got tested,

'DonaldTrumpMo' suddenly realized that fer once he may really actually be broke,
And that he and his staff may have to get used to the feeling on Friday gettin' soaked,
An instead of wearing Panther gear round town its safer to wear other teams cloaks,
Then ol 'DonMo' rared back in his chair and said, 'Even I cant see thru this smoke'.....

Question

Probably should be on JV forum but not much on there. Two questions, How has the turnout been and what are the outlooks for SMC teams and I Iooked on Maxpreps JV schedules and don't see Cherokee on Murphy's schedule. They are fielding a team I'm sure and if so when do they play Murphy.
JV dogs should do well this year...all depending on line development...very athletic backfield. 4 of the top 5 in middle school 100 meters in the backfield. All depending on O-line ability to open holes. We'll see if they can

Four County vs Three Rivers

Comparing these two good split conferences over the past two years and moving forward. Over the past two years they both have won state titles, played for state titles, and played for eastern championships in different sports.

Football: I would give the edge to the Four County conference with Clinton playing for a title last year and Wallace winning a title last year

Basketball: I believe they are close to even with the edge to the Three Rivers with Fairmont playing for the eastern title last year. Looking for Clinton to be strong the next few years.

Baseball: I give the edge to the Three Rivers. Yes Midway won a state title two years ago and lost in the eastern championship last year but Whiteville has won two titles and beat rival West Columbus in the eastern title series last year. Also Fairmont has strong baseball.

Soccer: I would give the edge to the Four County conference. Wallace has won two titles in the last two years and Clinton has been strong.

Anybody else down east have any thoughts?

SMAC 2015

Here we are on July 1st, so I thought we would see everybody's take on the upcoming season.

I'll go with this for early conference prediction...
1-Crest
2-Shelby
3-Kings Mtn.
4-Burns
5-RS Central
6-Chase
7-East Rutherford
8-East Burke
9-Draughn

4-7 could jump around pretty quick depending on numbers and health. The final game of the year will decide conference champ again and it will be a monster like last year. My sleeper team is Kings Mtn. Will be interesting to see how their changes will impact them.

Season predictions for 1A

I'm really excited to see what happens this year in the 1A division, I think it is loaded in the east with several capable teams. With that said, the bar is set with the Plymouth Vikings who I think are still the team to beat in the east. The Vikings seem to just reload every year, and this year is no different.. We will be starting a freshmen QB and have to replace the whole DL but the OL, RB's, and LB's are all just another year older and ready to shine!! Am I the only one who can't wait for the season to start? I guess I'm just excited to see what the Vikings can do with teams like Northeastern, Washington, Edenton Holmes, Camden County, and Riverside-Martin on the schedule.. Not sure anybody in 1A plays that tough a schedule. the Vikings will be tested early an often so it shouldnt take long to see what we got! Good Luck to everybody out there this season!!

I'm predicting:

Plymouth over Lakewood in the eastern finals

Plymouth over Murphy in the finals

Teams who could make noise in the east are.... South Creek, Southside, Camden county, and East Carteret..

Rosman Tigers need opponent for 5th play date(9/18/15)!

The Rosman Tigers' game with Tri-Cities Tennessee on September 18th has been cancelled by Tri-Cities, so Tiger Head Coach Freddie Whitman has an unexpected opening for the 5th play date on September 18th!

In looking at the NCPrep magazine schedules, I noticed that these 6 schools have 2 open dates this season, and one of those is the same date as the Tigers have.

1A Schools :Lejeune(9/18 & 10/2),Pender County(9/18 & 8/21) and Robbinsville(9/18 & 10/23)

2A Schools:CATA(9/18 & 10/2),Randleman(9/18 & 10/2) and West Wilkes(9/18 & 9/4)

Rosman's other OPEN date is October 30th in case the 5th play date won't work....

I encourage any of these schools or any other school that needs or wants to fill their vacant play date on Sept 18th to call Rosman Coach Freddie Whtiman or Rosman High School....

Rosman needs opponent for 5th play date(3/18/15)

The Rosman Tigers found out today that Tri-Cities Tennessee has decided not to honor the contract that was signed last season when the Tigers made the trip across the border...

This last minute cancellation has left the Tigers with only a 10 game schedule, so Coach Freddie Whitman is trying to find an opponent for September 18th.....

Looking at the NCPrep Magazine, I found 2A Central Academy of Technology and Arts, 2A West Wilkes and 1A Robbinsville as teams without an opponent on the 5th play date, and also only playing 10 opponents , this year.....Don't know if any of these schools are looking to fill that vacant spot on their schedule or not, but I encourage Any Coach who needs an opponent for Sept 18th to call Coach Whitman or Rosman High School....
