Four County Week 7

Missed the West Bladen/Union game by 37 seconds, oh well. Knew it would be a close one, though. That loss plus Clinton and EB's win put me at 27-6 on the year.

Game of the Week
East Bladen @ Clinton- Clash of the 2 Giants in 2A this year. This is a tough prediction with so many factors being involved. You have EB playing a tough game last night with short rest and Clinton having an easy victory over Pender which seems weeks ago. Who will benefit the most? Eian Hines being questionable for EB? Clinton's O vs EB's D? Not knowing Eian's status and EB on a short week, plus playing over in Clinton. I think the odds are stacked against EB. But, I still believe in this D and been bragging about them all year. I think they get the job done for the Eagles. East Bladen 22- Clinton 21

Wallace-Rose Hill @ West Bladen- WB proved me wrong against Union and showed some fight last night. I think the Knights hang around for a half but WRH will have too much in the end. Wallace-Rose Hill 38 West Bladen 16

Union @ Trask- Union will shutdown Trask's Offense and will muster up enough Offense to win this one. Union 24- Trask 6

Midway @ Pender- Midway was very impressive on D and Pender looks pretty anemic on Offense. Midway has enough weapons to blow this one open. Midway 31 Pender 0

Not praying for rain this Friday!!!!

South Robeson at Fairmont Rescheduled

The game, originally scheduled for Friday, September 25th at 7:30 PM, has been moved to Thursday Night at 7:00 PM. Nelson and Nelson Chiropractic planned to cover the game as their pick of the Game Of The Week in the Cape Fear Region. Not sure if this will still be their plan in terms of coverage, but please fill the stands and support the Golden Tornadoes. This is the first week of conference play for the Three Rivers Conference.

East Wilkes 21 - North Wilkes 0

A costly victory tonight as it appears an important cog on the offense sustained a serious injury.

Very sloppy game in which East dominated. North put together one drive the whole evening and East's D shut that drive down. On offense East moved the ball well, but North stopped them 3 or 4 times in the red zone to keep the score respectable.

A ton of things to correct before the Trojans on Friday night and not many days to correct them.

5 - 0 is 5 - 0 and something to be proud of and built upon.

Go Cards.

West Caldwell At Newton-Conover

Lincolnton isn't playing, this Friday, so for the first time in two weeks I'm off from work and was looking for a good matchup. I looked at this area from here to Concord, and down to the South Carolina upstate and didn't see much.

Shelby is at Kings Mountain which maybe the oldest rivalry around, and not to sell the Mountaineers short, this season, but they got one uphill battle (no pun intended) if they stay in the game with the Golden Lions...
Monroe is at Cuthbertson but I don't think they can handle the Hawks unless they're emotionally drained after a big overtime win against Weddington. Charlotte Catholic has Berry. I can't see the Cardinals having much of a chance, though...Then, I saw where West Caldwell is at Newton-Conover.

I'd said earlier I didn't think the Warriors could play with the Devils, then somebody, maybe an East Burke poster, said WC was missing a key player in one of their two losses which might make a difference. Nothing much has been said about this game and I was hoping someone would have something to say. All comments appreciated. :)

Selfless Kindness

I witnessed something tonight during a football game that I've never seen in person before. I've seen it on TV and social media, but never live in front of me.

Let me set the scenario. East Duplin leads South Lenoir 55 to 6 late in the 4th quarter when something amazing happened. The refs paused the game and the coaches met in the middle of the field and talked for at least 15 minutes. After a long discussion, both teams took the field.

Here's where it gets interesting. South Lenoir put in a special needs kid (Walker Howard) in the back field and hiked the ball. The ball was handed to Howard and not only did the Blue Devils block, but the Panthers moved out of the way for the kid to score a 80 yard touchdown. It was so nice to see this kid with a smile on his face. He was in the spotlight tonight.

I'm very proud my high school could show that kind of sportsmanship on the field. Not only will it be a moment that Walker will never forget, but it will be a moment I'll never forget either. Thanks Coach Holley and company, you really showed everyone what East Duplin football is about.
