East Rutherford 21, Burns 20

Scored a touchdown to cut it to 1 but shocker, missed the two point conversion that would have won it. I thought Epps got in but the refs didn't see it that way. Should have never come down to that. We had a couple drops late in the third quarter, and a costly pick 6. Our offense actually outscored their defense. One of the most gut-punching losses I've ever seen. We also lost our QB to a concussion in the second quarter. He took a beating trying to score from the 1. KJ came in and did well aside from two costly interceptions. But he didn't do bad at all for someone who had never played the position except in scrimmages this year. We also had a couple other injuries. We are so much better than our 3-3 record would indicate. We just cannot catch a break. Once a Bulldog, ALWAYS a Bulldog!

Time for Turf in SMC

It's time the rest of the SMC catches up to Hayesville and Cherokee and installs turf fields! With all of the game cancellations around WNC tonight I think it's pretty clear that turf is the only way to go. These fields are becoming cheaper so I think it would be doable for most of the other schools nowadays. Also, kudos to Cherokee for stepping up and agreeing to host Pisgah vs. Franklin tonight. Should be a good one over on the Qualla Boundary! Last I heard Swain @ Hayesville is still a go as well. Good luck to all teams, fans and safe travels on those wet highways.

West craven

Boys was at the game with their green and white Pom poms talking trash saying they gonna man handle havelock and shut down their offense after watching the rose game I can't wait for this game this time don't try and fight and late hit our players because your losing

Ima go ahead and predict havelock to kick y'all's butt 49-21 no one in this state has the passing game like rose y'all keep judging your team off of what another team did I doubt any other team in nc in 3a has a 4 star wide receivers along with 5 other great wide receivers havelock shouldn't have anymore close games except maybe west craven if they can cause turn overs but y'all talking about shutting havelock down I guess u saying your defense is like crest From last year gimme a break that crest defense probably the best defense in nc in the past decade no way west craven can shut down havelock but I guess we will see

South Point at Hunter Huss

Next in the conference lineup for South Point is Hunter Huss. It is hard to get excited about a team which has no obvious posters on these boards and against which SP has a series record of 19-4-1. No reason to expect anything but a W at the end of the game. But a game is a game and we can't overlook them. As the saying goes "even a blind squirrel finds a nut from time to time".

The Huskies schedule is not particularly impressive - losses to good Monroe and East Lincoln teams and a struggling Burns team, wins over Hickory and North Gaston. However, they always seem to have a little talent and try to get as much out of it as possible (unlike their cross-town rival Trashbrook which has talent in spades at times and has nothing to show for it). What effect will the short prep week and the weather as it continues to wreak havoc with practices and games have Friday night?

One thing the fans have to look forward to: The last time SP visited Huss, I heard complaints about their PA guy. Assuming he is still there, the misery will be magnified since the press box side is now the visitors' side. :(

It would be nice to get some input from the Burns and Hickory posters who have seen the Huskies this year. Are they more run-oriented this year? What does their defense look like? Any glaring weakness or anything in particular that stands out?

Richmond game balls..

My game balls go to the following players...#1 The kid that came off the edge and with great individual effort blocked the first extra point of Dudley....By the way , I think we only had 9 players on the field at the time???....#2 game ball goes to Quintel Goodwin , who was the first running back to get 100 yards this year.....His hard running especially the first half led to 2 early scores for the Raiders......#3 game ball goes to our Defense , especially the front 7.......#34 was side to side ........The offensive line showed some improvement matching up with the tough front of Dudley........Our Wr's seem to be doing a better job of down field blocking.......Got to give some props out to #8 for the int. in the endzone.....I actually thought he was beat for the winning score, but he made a great recovery......The soph kicker did a good job of filling in ...2 for 2......Congratulations to the Raider Coaching staff ...Oh , the fried fish plate was actually almost as good as the win.....I was actually impressed the way Dudley shook hands and acted during and after the game.....Great place to play with a great half time show by the band of Thunder.......Lets get ready for the Bucks..............nuff said....

East Lincoln at Lincolnton

Not so awfully long ago the East Lincoln-Lincolnton matchup was written off by many of us as a win, even before the game was played, but then Coach Byus, Et al., showed up in 2005.

Since then, we’ve won five out of thirteen matches, with them beating us the last four games over the past three seasons. Certainly enough to make me tired of us losing to them, but I was tired of losing to them when they were only up one game, let alone three, and they are set to go up on us by four games, this year. East Lincoln hasn't lost in twenty-one games and is ranked number one in some of the 2A polls.

I doubt if any of the Mustang faithful give very much attention to what I post. Frankly, if I was one of them I wouldn’t pay any attention to me, either, but if it ever crosses your mind that us Lincolnton sorts long for the days when winning against you was easy, let me tell you there is at least one, namely me, who doesn’t. As aggravated and disgusted as I get when the Wolves lose, especially to the Mustangs, I enjoy the contests between these two more now than I did before Coach Byus, Et al., came. Before, it wasn’t something to get excited about, but now, it is. Speaking of Coach Byus, Et al, some of the Et al’s [sic], leave posts, once in a while, but not as often as before.

Most everybody in this area knows the key players and offensive formations, particularly East Lincoln’s. I’m not going to say anything about cross county rivalry or something like “come on up, neighbor, and have a good time”, not meaning to be inhospitable, but you’ve heard it all before. I would mention, though, this game will be in Lincolnton and it will probably draw a big crowd.

All comments and predictions are appreciated, even the ones I don’t like.

Orange vs Northwood

Maybe 'MotownMo' should consult ''Beldar'' and inquire what to do about the rash of injuries they have suffered. Maybe ''Beldar'' could do the ''Like a good neighbor State Farm is there'' bit and go back to the first day of practice. Imagine Earnie, 'Motown', and the coaching staff setting around in coneheads saying ''meep meep meep''. Just a thought. Ya think some chain pulling coach could steal that signal.

East Gaston 12 Lake Norman Charter 7

Very very ugly game. The game was played in driving rain and wind. Probably 20+ turnovers between the 2 teams. I counted 6 starters out for EG and 2 others only played the 2nd half. Only 1 of the players that didn't play looked to be injured. All the others were dressed. I hope they all get out of the doghouse before next week! Washington looked good in spurts, but you could tell he was rusty. He did most of his work on his own, with our entire starting OL being out. We looked like a team that got hammered by our arch rival 4 days ago. I'll take the win though.
