Monroe @ Shelby

We will elaborate on an interesting meeting over 100 years ago.
Shelby’s record in 1922.

1922

5-4-2

Mars Hill
Junior College-Won, 18-0
Gaffney S.C.-Lost, 6-7
Charlotte-Lost, 0-10
Rockingham-Won, 13-0
Gastonia-Won, 34-0
North Carolina State

Lincolnton-Won, 47-0
Chester S.C.-Won, 12-6
Monroe-Tied, 0-0
Monroe-Tied, 6-6
Monroe-Lost, 13-14

According to newspaper reports;
The Monroe game first ended regulation in a tie.
They played an overtime, which also ended in a tie.
They played an overtime again…the next morning…both scored, but Shelby missed the extra point and Monroe won.
The meeting was listed in the record books at the time like you see it above.
A few years later, Shelby would play in one of the state’s first night games under the lights.
In 1922, the next morning’s finish was forced by darkness.
Obviously, neither team was willing to settle for a tie.
This is awesome. I think it is great that y'all have such detailed records. I wish all schools had done this.

You could be right as 2A is loaded with good teams. Shelby may never play Monroe again with them already having an enrollment of 1200. Only common opponent is Burns and Monroe really handled them as they have everybody they played.Hopefully it is a good game. One positive for Shelby is we are at home and do not have to go through Charlotte on Friday afternoon.
What does the 1200 enrollment really matter. They don't get to this round very often.

In case you were curious, that 1922 Monroe vs Shelby game was not for a state title or any other championship.
The 1922 State Champion was Asheville over New Bern 12-6, ironically won in overtime.
Ties were commonplace back in the day and overtimes were rare.
Monroe would play for the State Title in 1920, losing to Chapel Hill, 14-0.
Shelby would play in the Championship Title game in 1924, losing a close one to Rockingham, 7-0.
There were NO CLASSIFICATIONS until 1929.
The playoffs were open to every high school in North Carolina and up to 6 rounds.
Other champs in that Open period were Raleigh, Charlotte, Fayetteville and Wilmington.
Pretty impressive that small town Shelby and Monroe could hang with the bigger cities back then.
Not sure much has changed there.

They don’t own up to it when they disrespect everyone. Must be a green team thing, I saw how obnoxious the fans were first hand. Wouldn’t expect any less. The “buffet boys “ new nickname will definitely let the pads speak. Hit Somebody in full affect
The men in green are ready , hope aunt Bea keeps bringing your boys doughnuts lol

Goober does this every year. Talks so much shit to everyone, then NE chokes and he goes into witness protection program.

Burke County hoops

How did the big guy for Reynolds do? He is one of the few bigs that can match up with ours.
He had a good game. Our regular post, Elijah Davidson, was out injured so we had a sub in against him. That's really no excuse because depth is one of our strengths (we have another sub who plays down in the post who didn't get into the game at all). If we're going to run an up-tempo game, we need to use as many players as we can during a game, and I think we didn't get the most out of our depth last night.

JK vs NE

Maybe dig differently and see my post on NE thread about running clock comment to your fellow JK poster. JK doesn’t look the part is how I feel. The Whiteville comment was accurate. The WRH comment was actually asking a question, I felt like was would win by a couple scores. Got it wrong, it happens. One things for sure, these boards will light up Friday night. JK has nothing to lose imo, they are playing with house money. Northeastern has everything to lose. Go Eagles 🦅
Exactly, so by running our mouths we lose nothing we’re the underdogs right? By runnings yours, you’re losing a wholeeee lot more

JK vs NE

With all due respect, he has no reason to duck. I think the East is really down and that NE is the superior team. All those things are his opinion which he is entitled to. Some of those opinions are stupid to me however, I have to agree with the guy from Clinton. JK is a good team this year and it will take a hell of a game to beat NE. I think if you ask West Craven they thought that after beating ED they were going to win but NE is just that good this year. In the past their defense hasn't been as physical and kind of finesse but that is not the case this year. Nobody up that way gets to put there eyes on them but they are Big upfront, athletic and extremely fast on both sides. Good Luck to both teams. Im obviously rooting for NE bc they are in my conference.
Maybe the only time we’ve agreed Go Eagles, and the Ptank post was me just joking obviously.

Playoffs

^^I also, have seen both teams play at the beginning of the season, middle, and end. 2 State Championship programs. Weddington is a great team but like any team out there…hey guys…sorry to tell ya, they have flaws. Pretty good defense, disruptive front 4! Nasty, Fast & Physical! Defensive backs on Weddington are by far the weakest group on the field. Can easily be attacked all night through the air by quick game. EF offensively, this group will be the best if not, one of the best offenses Weddington has seen all season & vice versa. Bryce Baker is a well oiled machine but he CANNOT give points to the defense like he has the past 2 weeks. Weddington’s offense is average at best. Very Surprised their QB only has 1 D2 offer as a senior on a team like that with that much exposure. 6’5, proven state champion, shows control over the offense. It’s mind boggling but I’m sure they will roll in once the season ends in a few weeks. I Truly don’t believe they have a player that can single handedly take over this game on offense. But EF’s defense has been if not, historically bad this year. Eager to see Weddington’s receivers vs EF db’s. Ef’s defensive backs are the weakest group on that unit but the defense as a whole tends to have that “keep bending, we’re almost about to break” mentality lol. EF’s offense will keep them in this game. Simple. They have to! there is no other choice lol. EF will have to make this a shootout. I can’t stress this enough, East must get their 3-star WR #11 going early unlike past weeks. Playcalling will be very interesting to see. Throughout the game he seems to disappear, don’t understand it. Unlike some people on here like I said earlier, I have seen both teams play multiple games throughout the season. EF has a chance, this is why we play the game. Weddington must get east out of the way quick, jump on them and take their heart. Go for the Kill early coach! Something that Mooresville failed to do. If this EF team goes on the road 2 hours away in 28 degree weather & linger around throughout the 3rd or 4th I truly believe East will win in a close one. I have it 38-33 whoever wins.
Great Take, This is what I like to see!

SN, The QB for Weddington didn’t start until this season so that probably played a big part in his recruitment not picking up as much yet.
