Monroe @ Shelby

Your dumb for taking the post out of context of what I said.. I said nothing about soccer and nothing about racism.. I spoke facts about Monroe’s population.. Bro your team is at home and can’t beat Monroe. Out of the 3 Hispanics on the football team one of them is one of the best players on the team and the state runner up in wrestling.. But imma end this conversation with yo dumb ass cause I see you really hate Monroe cause we play 2A and 3A ball.. Maiden or who ever your team is Suck Monkey nuts and will never be able to compete with the Roe!!! SUCKA!!! This is a Monroe Shelby Thread so your opinion is really irrelevant…lol To all my Shelby fans I hope both teams put on a show so these fans teams that’s not playing can kick rocks and see why their team is at home watching.. CLOWNS
Oh ruffled some feathers I see, this should be fun then. That is the great thing about being unaffiliated I could actually care less about who wins and who loses. I'm just here to talk ball and weigh in on topics of interest. So believe me when I tell you your insults fall on deaf ears because I don't have a team sitting at home right now and even if I did it wouldn't matter because I would not get my emotions wrapped up in HS teenagers winning and losing football games.

Now I never said anything about racism and your first post inherently brought race into the conversation by explicitly saying how many Hispanic kids Monroe had in the school. Since you can't come up with a better argument about what my post said you resorted to name calling and cursing which let me know your intellect level probably is not that high, but given your handle of Monroe 1998 I can see why. I don't actually have any hate for Monroe, if I had any hate at all it would be for the ignorant system and realignment that put 3A teams across the state in some instances playing 2A ball and also forced some 1A and 2A and 3A teams to play up a class without ADM's to actually justify them being moved up. If you have a brain stem the functions you could go back and see that I have actually talked very favorably about Monroe in many posts this year, but facts are often lost on the ignorant.

If I used words or phrasing in there you understand please feel free to have someone read it to you and break it down for you.

They would actually beat Weddington AND Catholick some years when they were in that conference. Check the records. This is why the expectations of them were so high because of the conference they came from and the previous titles they won during Shelby's run.
It is funny you would say this, because I never come on here and just randomly post anything without having some background knowledge. I was pretty sure Monroe was O'fer against Catholic and Weddington in their last conference realignment, but because I have access to internet and little free time I went back and checked again and lo and behold I was right. So I will take the liberty of breaking this down by year

2017: The first year of the new realignment before the current one- Monroe was 5-7 with 2 conference wins against Piedmont and Parkwood who are garbage. Catholic beat them 49-6 and Weddington 34-0

2018: Monroe was 7-6 with 3 conference wins Marvin Ridge Piedmont and Parkwood again who are garbage. Catholic beat them 21-14 the first time and then 42-0 the second time in the second round of the playoffs. Weddington beat them 42-0

2019: Monroe was 6-6 with 3 conference wins Sun Valley, Cuthbertson and Piedmont (didn't manage to beat Parkwood this year) The also lost to Catholic 41-10 and Weddington 45-13

2020 Spring Season: Monroe was 7-3 and lost to Catholic 27-0 the first time and 24-14 the second time in the playoffs. Weddington beat them 45-14 as well.

So if you're keeping count in a 4 year span in their 3A conference Monroe was 0-6 against Catholic and 0-4 against Weddington. Catholic outscored them 204-44 in that span and shut them out twice. Weddington outscored them 166-27 and shut them out twice as well. I think it is safe to say Monroe was dominated by those two teams.

If they were such great games between them and they beat them sometimes (which they obviously did not) then why didn't they schedule them as non-conference opponents the last 4 years? I mean they are in the same county and it would have saved them money on bus fair.

Now in your defense From 2013-2014 Monroe played Weddington in non-conference and split with them 2-2 over that four year stretch. So since 2013 Monroe is 2-6 against Weddington and 0-6 against Catholic.

Not sure when the site was updated but looks like we first played monroe 1921 and are 2-3-2 according to Dynasty's site.....

We will elaborate on an interesting meeting over 100 years ago.
Shelby’s record in 1922.

1922

5-4-2

Mars Hill
Junior College-Won, 18-0
Gaffney S.C.-Lost, 6-7
Charlotte-Lost, 0-10
Rockingham-Won, 13-0
Gastonia-Won, 34-0
North Carolina State
Freshman Team-Lost, 0-32
Lincolnton-Won, 47-0
Chester S.C.-Won, 12-6
Monroe-Tied, 0-0
Monroe-Tied, 6-6
Monroe-Lost, 13-14

According to newspaper reports;
The Monroe game first ended regulation in a tie.
They played an overtime, which also ended in a tie.
They played an overtime again…the next morning…both scored, but Shelby missed the extra point and Monroe won.
The meeting was listed in the record books at the time like you see it above.
A few years later, Shelby would play in one of the state’s first night games under the lights.
In 1922, the next morning’s finish was forced by darkness.
Obviously, neither team was willing to settle for a tie.

In case you were curious, that 1922 Monroe vs Shelby game was not for a state title or any other championship.
The 1922 State Champion was Asheville over New Bern 12-6, ironically won in overtime.
Ties were commonplace back in the day and overtimes were rare.
Monroe would play for the State Title in 1920, losing to Chapel Hill, 14-0.
Shelby would play in the Championship Title game in 1924, losing a close one to Rockingham, 7-0.
There were NO CLASSIFICATIONS until 1929.
The playoffs were open to every high school in North Carolina and up to 6 rounds.
Other champs in that Open period were Raleigh, Charlotte, Fayetteville and Wilmington.
Pretty impressive that small town Shelby and Monroe could hang with the bigger cities back then.
Not sure much has changed there.

You could be right as 2A is loaded with good teams. Shelby may never play Monroe again with them already having an enrollment of 1200. Only common opponent is Burns and Monroe really handled them as they have everybody they played.Hopefully it is a good game. One positive for Shelby is we are at home and do not have to go through Charlotte on Friday afternoon.
What does the 1200 enrollment really matter. They don't get to this round very often.

This is awesome. I think it is great that y'all have such detailed records. I wish all schools had done this.

I’m just glad Monroe has a lot of bulletin board material based off of this thread. I should be expecting them to get their asses kicked on Friday.
Yea, you guys are not likeable. Which is fine y'all own it pretty well. But nah there is no love loss between anyone and Monroe and Monroe and anyone else.
