Don, I watched Queen City (Charlotte) at Cherryville for five innings. Both teams looked similar but Cherryville couldn't generate any offense, and they used several pitchers. Final score was QC 5 C’ville 1.
Saw their game with Florence, Saturday night, in which Cherryville lost 19-0. I'm beginning to think I bring them bad luck. It almost seemed like they weren't too concerned with winning but maybe it's because they have first place in the west division sewed up.
I have confidence in Coach Reynolds and they'll probably come out swinging in the second round.

Scratching my head too about the Florence game. Looking at their games this year. Florence seem to be down this year compared to past years.

That Queen City team returned a lot of guys from last year. Area IV playoffs should be really entertaining.

Everything that Coach Reynolds does is about positioning the team to play its best in the playoffs. Non division games are not nearly important to him as division games. In the North South Challenge he played all the players on the roster and didn't pitch any of his best pitchers. He pitched his best pitcher against Rutherford County the next day in a game he needed to win in order to win the Western Division and they won 5-1.

The game vs Queen City was not originally scheduled. Coach Reynolds scheduled it to get a look at the Queen City team (scouting for the playoffs) and threw 6 different pitchers non of which were in their top three. Queen City on the other hand threw one of their regular starters. If Cherryville and Queen City meet in the playoffs it will be for the championship and both teams would advance to the State tournament, but I assure you Coach Reynolds' goal is to win another Area IV championship. Cherryville does need to hit the ball better than they have lately to win it.

Now, how good is the Cherryville Post 100 team this year? In my honest opinion I think they can win Area IV but I don't think they can win a state title this year. Last year's champion Fuquay Varina is loaded with mostly college players and are probably better than they were last year.

Cherryville is still very young and have been hampered by injuries. Their second best pitcher has had arm problems and had not pitched all season until the 2 innings he threw vs Queen City the other night. Last year's CF and one of the best hitters has missed the entire season with a wrist injury. They have no college players and all their players except two still have at least one year of high school left, 17 of the 18 players on the roster will be back next year including Joe Webb who will be pitching for Catawba College next season, and the player with the wrist injury (not on this year's roster) will also be back.

I'm hoping they get to the state tournament to get some experience that they can carry over into next season. They could be really good next year.

GBraves go up 1-0 in the series with an 11-4 win tonight against Hickory. Game 2 will be tomorrow @ Hickory (Hickory American Legion Fairgrounds) Game time 7:00.

I don't believe he's with them anymore. I believe focus has turned to MLB draft.
Thanks for the information SM5, hate that for Cleveland but I'm not surprised. When Cleveland beat Cherryville 4-1 a couple of weeks ago the Cherryville radio commentator said scouts were there, then, to look at him. I wish him well.

Cherryville vs Matthews, Game 2 is now set for tomorrow (Sunday) at 7:00pm at Fraley Field. Game 3 at Matthews on Monday.
Thanks for the update, Don. Seems like that earlier post 100's twitter page said the game would be played at Butler High School on Monday. Was thinking about driving down there. Glad you posted it. Had I got there and they weren't playing I might have thought I'd had a mini-stroke.

Matthews does play their home games at Butler High School. The game Monday will be played at Butler high school. The info saying they play at Matthews is misleading. Safe travel!

The Semi-finals match up the Area IV top 4 finishers in the regular season. I expect both series to be close match ups that will take 6 to 7 games to decide. I give Cherryville a slight edge against the Gaston Braves. The Braves have better hitting but I believe Post 100 has a little better pitching depth and better defense.

I'm predicting Rutherford County to edge Queen City in a series that goes 7 games. Queen City has better pitching and Rutherford County has better hitting. You could flip a coin on this one IMO.

I think Queen City has the edge over RC. Their pitching is very good, probably the best in the area. As far as the Cherryville series goes. I think it will be a long series. Cherryville has good pitchers at the top but then it drops off, in my opinion. I could see Cherryville jumping out to a 2-0 series lead then GB winning the next 2.

Don, for your update, the Gaston Braves pitcher, C. Stewart, tossed a 2 hitter as they beat Cherryville 4-0. Lack of offense really really hurt them. They are at South Point in Belmont, Friday night.
