2023 Area 4 Playoffs

Here's a question. Game 1 saw Matthews with only around 10 players. I heard that the reason being was because some of the players where playing both Jr and Sr. Are they able to do this? Legion makes such a big deal about being on 2 different rosters during the playoffs, I know Post 82 has lost some in the past due to this, does this not apply here also?

Hickory forfeiting is messed up. I'm sure Mint Hill is furious. Granted, MH should have done their part and beat Hickory. But still....... Asheville is a good team. This allows them to set their pitching up however they see fit in the next round. Big advantage there.

The rules are such that they should not be on both rosters. Once the rosters are finalized there cannot be any changes.

One of the problems we see every season in the playoffs is some teams have rostered players who for various reasons are not playing any more with the team. The reason Hickory forfeited today's game was because they were not going to have enough players to play. The team didn't just quit. They had enough players in their series against MH and the first two games against Asheville but obviously all those players were not available for today.

Linkman, if you see this, Couldn’t get to the game, tonight, but listened to most of the broadcast, except for the end. Thought I heard D.Eaker say Cherryville would have a place in the state tournament with a series win over Caldwell. Perhaps I misunderstood, but wouldn’t Post 100 have to win the series that starts next week to get a spot ?

Yes, you are correct. Thy need to win the next series (the semi-finals) to get in. That series will be against Rutherford County who beat Queen City tonight to close out that series 3 games to none. It will begin either Monday or Tuesday in Cherryville.

Both of these series' should be very good. 4 good ball teams here. Glad it's a best of 7.
Game 5 in the Cherryville/Rutherford Co. series will not be at Fraley Field in Cherryville. It will need to be moved due to Cherryville hosting the Junior Legion State tournament starting Saturday.

Decisions have been made such that Game 5 will be played at Fraley Field with a planned start time of 7:30. Adjustments were made to the start times of the Sunday Junior Legion State tournament games to get 4 games completed by 7:30. Hope it doesn't rain.

Don, kind of wish they would play only one game for seeding, like Area lll so they would be well rested. They’ll need it because every team there will be good. Maybe it’s just that we’re in the throes of summer, but it always seems like it is so hot on the week of the state tournament. Heard the guys on the radio talking about how hot some of them have been. Stay hydrated down there.

Yes the hottest I remember was in Garner. 106 degrees very day! I should be in the press box I'm told. That will help a lot! Double elimination will test pitching staffs too.
