Shelby vs Newton Conover

I wouldn't waist the gas. I can overlook West Iredell and Newton Conover because South Point and Shelby won't. See you at Lineberger Stadium on the 17th. That one will be worth the gas! 22 midgets played their heart out to beat Shelby. It wasn't easy. Shelby's a solid team. Newton's fixin to find out. I don't care how many Stinsons play

Not overlooking West Iredell, but I haven't seen too many of their posters. Besides, it is much more fun tormenting the Shelby posters.

Usually only good teams get posters or if your like me, a game hopper, and there are quite a few out there, then we post. WI posters woundnt come out of the woodwork unless they start winning more than 6 or 7 games. You NEVER or rarely see posters from schools like Bunker Hill or Highland Tech and not but one or 2 Burke co posters are out there. Lincolnton used to have at least 5 we’ll known posters or more. Never see them on anymore.

Their posters are sitting back quietly licking their chops with all this bulletin board material.I remember when Shelby over looked Newton Conover in 77 and the rest is history.

The civilian internet was not around back then

We Lincolnton fans have been pretty quiet this year. Maybe we will wake up a little bit if we get a playoff win this Friday. Seems a little crazy that Shelby and Newton Conover have to play each other in the first rd and Lincolnton in the small 2A bracket with a 5-6 record gets to play Graham, a team with a 3-8 record.

One better than that ha ha. South Caldwell with a first round bye. One win.

NC lost the very next week badly. NC played over there head

Tradition of excellence in Shelby. After losing last week they will have their way with nc

How many seniors will NC graduate this year? Is the core of the talent leaving? Just wondering so we can all ponder over where Beam will go to next. Any schools besides Burns with a really talented sophomore class coming up?

I feel good, my man, I feel optimistic.
Unless Shelby magically learns how to block they are not beating a good team. Could not block 3 SP linemen with 5 blockers. Been soft all year, need to fire out and hit some D linemen. We have been way to passive all year.

Burkeforreal, I'm still around. Its been a lean year for the Wolves. Not a lot to say but just as proud of our guys, now, as during good seasons. We're an old program with a lot of tradition and we find a way to bounce back after tough years. Linkman and Wolfforlyfe are still around. We aren't going anywhere, at least some of us. There would be more if we were a title contender but that's to be expected.
All the best to Shelby, South Point and Newton-Conover.

MSC and Shelby Lion, thanks for the kind words. I try to be like y'all.

To read GDG’s posts on the other board, the line is actually good, the quarterback just holds the ball too long, in which he often does, and that certainly doesn’t help matters, but he’s been the same cautious, sometimes overly cautious quarterback that he is for his entire high school career. The coaches love and trust the young man, he’s been in the system since his freshman year, but yet, GDG could see the anguish on the coaches’ faces over the qb holding the ball for too long. The man has keen vision to see that from the home side.

Dude on that other board doing all of that arm chair quarterbacking, and has only seen Shelby twice this year, the Freedom and South Point games. He pretty much made Malik the scapegoat for our offensive woes the other night. He’s the quarterback, so he has to have some accountability, but not as much as the Jon Gruden wannabe implied.

He mentioned our best receiver w/ hands, never even got a pass thrown to him. Excuse me, Mr. Know it all , Tucker Green exited the game early w/ an injury, but that’s right, he doesn’t know that young man is our best receiver, because he doesn’t know this Shelby team, and it’s personnel.

He claims that DaDa is the primary receiver, Malik locks in on him too much. Dude doesn’t know that Brooks just recently became involved in the passing game. Heck, I wish he’d been running more wheel routes, screens, and fly patterns much earlier than he has been. He should have been involved more from the opening game. He’s our fastest, most dynamic player, and speaking of Brooks, he gets many of his yards on sheer will and supreme individual effort

Again, the quarterback, being in the position that he is, has to be held accountable, and being the leader that he is, he knows this, but he sure as hell didn’t play defense Friday night, and South Point took to our defense from the their very first play, it wasn’t a case of them being on them field for too long and tired, the D simply had no answer that night for triple option. There’s plenty of blame to go around.

Bottom line the expectations for this offense were to high when the season begin. We lost all of our receivers but one and one of those we lost was the best Cleveland County receiver in history. We lost all of a very good offensive line but one and we lost two great role players that could do everything on offense. With all these senior players we go 16 and 0 and our QB throws 45 tds and has a great year.Hopefully this Friday night we get a few things going and we come out on top.Go Lions.

Newton has I think 13 seniors, of those 13 only 5 of them really see significant playing time. One of those being Stinson, one WR/OLB, two offensive lineman, and the nose guard. Newton should be loaded next year as they also start 4 sophomores.

So what your saying is ol Mattie has about one maybe two years left before he leaves.....

Senior starters. Center. Left Tackle. OLB( Also plays a lot of receiver). Kicker. Corner (Has started about half of the games). Nose Guard (Has started about half of the games).

You dont have to justify/explain anything to strangers on the internet

Beam has a nose for where the talent is! He's a good man and will do a good job wherever he is.

With all the returning starters next year and decent JV team this year filling in and growing I can’t see him leaving after this year. Maybe year after that or something.

He does hold onto the ball sometimes, but if you look downfield there isn't anyone open. The kid doesn't just want to blindly throw the ball downfield and get it picked. For some reason this set of receivers just run down the field and almost straight down the field. No actual routes being run, no cuts, no cut backs, you get my drift. This is where coaching comes in. If we can see surely they do. So is this group just that young and taking longer than this team can stand to have success or they just not as good as we had hoped. Like this past Friday night SP was dropping 8 most of the time and we were still trying to run receivers deep and SP just wasn't going to let that happen. You have to pull it back and run underneath routes and flairs by the RB's. Be patient and march it down the field with runs mixed in. I think we have gotten spoiled by the group of receivers we have had the last 4 years. This is a different group and we have to adjust the their talents. Hopefully we learned a few lessons against SP. This week will tell if we did.

They probably dropped 8 because they know you can only score on a big play but have issues scoring from the redzone....

Newton will throw 60 bubble and quick screens this week. QB will have 85% completion percentage because of it.

Matty is no rookie coach. He'll take what the Lions give him. It's big boy time now, Shelby! Hang on now, realignment was not good for you.
Realignment has nothing to do with where Shelby stands which is 9-2 . Beat South Point last 2 years when they was 3A . Talant level has dropped some from the last couple years but still capable of making a decent run . South Point knows as good as any that come playoff time , Shelby kicks it up a notch most years . I just watched the last playoff game between the 2 and it was an exciting game . South Point won the regular season game by 1 point and Shelby won playoff game by 1 point . Good Ole days in the Southwestern conference . Right now it's all about Newton Conover though . If Shelby wins that game , the rematch with South Point will be more epic than first game . First game was for the conference and better seed , next meeting will be a possible trip towards Western finals . Anything can and will happen when these teams meet . Until then and up until championship game , good luck . If Newton Conover or South Point beats Shelby , I'm pulling for South Point the rest of the way !

I was just poking, golden one! It's amazing how negative your fan base has become over one game. Yes we'll whip your arses again, but that doesn't mean you have a bad team. You guys are legend, grow a pair!

I don't see why everyone discredits Shelby and the 9-2 record. I'm not sold myself even if SP whipped them a little. I think SP would win a rematch because they are just better this year but that is a compliment to the Raiders in my opinion. Don't forget that Shelby was 9-1 a week ago against the toughest schedule by far in 2a. They're the only team to beat a very good KM team, whipped ACR and held SPE to their lowest output of the season. Folks they aren't the 2016 team but they are still Shelby with one of the best defenses in 2a. I think this Friday they show NC and the rest of 2a just how good the top 2 teams from the southweastern were this year. Shelby by three scores.

Of course you are right, but please NC make them go away!
