Reidsville 50, Rockingham County 6

It is not a biased opinion, I don't have a dog in that fight except for wanting what is best for the team. it's not just me either, I've talked with several others who hold the same opinion. This is a new account that I made about a year ago, but I've been a longtime viewer of threads on here.

Yeah ok, the others you talked to aren’t coaches so they are just like you, biased eyes in the stands

When it comes down to the end. Teague puts the best out there. He watches everyday in practice and knows what to do. Have to trust the process.

Reidsville has one of the best coaching staffs in N.C. Continuity is a key to the program's ongoing success.

Agreed. Teague has always experimented early on and by playoffs he has the right formula for that team to succeed. Each year is a different formula. Attention to detail in practice usually is big difference as well.

It’s all politics there. The best player don’t always play. It’s who you know or what parents gives money to the school and program. In years past they had some ballers that pretty much never got PT . I have 3 kids and another on the way and live in Rockingham district but when time comes I most likely will be putting kids in the IB program at Reidsville.
I get that and unfortunately, it is an all too common problem. But why would any head coach put up with that? When they are looking to hire a head coach, it would seem no one would want the job if they know they cannot play the best players. And it seems the administration there and Rock. Co. boosters (those that have no kids in the program) would not tolerate this mess. I mean, do they want a winning and successful program or one that is terrible but at least a few "chosen golden ones" get to play even if they are not good?

Coaches don't make enough for the long/late hours they put in to have to deal with pesky parents; some good ones have left because it's not worth dealing with.

Yea wouldn’t be worth it to me to deal with that.

They ran off Coach Minor, the type of guy that could have made them respectable with his Single Wing and core values, but wasnt gonna let the boosters and AD call the shots. He has done well at FT Foard and East Burke since leaving Rockkkingham.

Oh well, hard to feel sorry for Rock. Co. football in that case. Seems like the majority of the fans, parents and administration is not interested in winning and a successful program. Though, I feel bad for the kids that want to do the right thing and put in the time to try and be a winner.

Reidsville vs. Rockingham County in football since 1977 season (no game in Spring of 2021 because of Covid)............Reidsville 43 Wins....only 2 Losses....Rock. Co. two wins over Reidsville came in 1988 (last year of Kelly Minyard as coach of the Rams) and 1989 (first year of Mark Barnes as Rams coach)........Majority of the games have not been close altho one year in the mid 80's (1985) Reidsville won a OT game vs. RC................

Those were the Lonnie Galloway years at RC. A great player for the Cougars, then Western Carolina ... now an assistant for the UNC Tar Heels.

Best teams at RC were the 88 and 89 teams. Lonnie Galloway was a beast. Still is. The 89 game was an upset. Reidsville had the game in hand but blew a 10 point 4th Q lead? In 2012 and 2016 Stadler and Baker had 9 win and 2nd round playoff teams respectively. It should be noted that these teams competed in a tough 3A conference with the likes of EA, N. Guilford, WA, etc but still couldn't beat strong Reidsville teams.

Rock has never have been able to overcome Reidsville mentally. In a series this lopsided it becomes psychological. Rock teams often line up waiting for something bad to happen and when it does the doubts set in. I believe the dominance is even greater with McMichael who has never beaten Reidsville and although Morehead has won more than anyone against Reidsville, that series is far from even. Lol!

Rock ain't as political as some claim. The coaches there want to win as much as anyone and believe me, they have their share of conflicts with parents/boosters when their kids don't get to play and said parent/booster has "given money." A$$holes are everywhere.

Football depends a lot on speed and physicality. Both have been plentiful at Reidsville and not so much in the county. Rock had no feeder youth football program for years. It's never the X's and the O's. It's the "Jimmy's and the Joe's." Except for Lonnie Galloway's senior year and maybe a few other years, Rock has not had the J & J's. Like a coaching friend of mine once said, you can't win the Kentucky Derby with a mule. Rock has had to compete against thoroughbreds with mules for many years.

Transfers, whether legal or otherwise, have also been an issue. Rock loses football players to Rams and conversely, the Rams have lost their share of baseball players, wrestlers and some female athletes to Rock through the years. Those are facts. No one should complain anymore about transfers because it's not going to stop and both schools have benefitted from them.

Never heard the claim on Kyle Pinnix but so what? What a kid does in middle school as far as position has little bearing on what he may end up doing in high school. This is especially true if his body changes.

Check your facts on Minor. There were some issues but most did not originate with the RC admin. He left on his own. No one ran him off. He probably told people that but it would be a lie. He wasn't going to be allowed to do as he pleased so he went somewhere else. He got a lot of mileage out of taking a young Reidsville team to overtime early in his only season at RC but just like a lot of run heavy offenses employed by the Cougars through the years, his would have been shut down by Reidsville just like the others. BTW, most don't know he was asked to leave Foard after 3 years. I also wouldn't say he's been highly successful at E. Burke. One can only get so much out of positive tweets and self promotion.

Reidsville will be fine. Page game was a wakeup call. EA will be tough game but win, lose or draw, look for Rams to be playing in December.

Minor note but in about 1962 or so Madison Mayodan ( before they became McMichael) beat Reidsville over there. I don't remember the score.

Mule, I checked the book ... it was in 1962 when Madison-Mayodan beat Reidsville 12-6, one week after Reidsville defeated Greensboro Page 3-0. (Who kicked that field goal)? The following year, Reidsville paid back Madison-Mayodan 53-0 in the 1963 state championship season. Of note, there were three tie scores - 13-13 with Graham, 7-7 with Roxboro and 0-0 with Brevard in the championship game.

Here is what I was told about the 1962 game by a friend who played in the game.

The game was played at Madison Mayodan. Reidsville was driving for what would have been the tying and possible winning TD when the Rams fumbled.

One of the refs started screaming "OUR BALL, OUR BALL" and awarded the ball to Madison Mayodan.

Game over.

If I had to guess who kicked the field goal to beat Page I would say Pete Glidwell?

That's probably right .. Glidewell went on to play at Davidson in 1965, 1966 and 1967. He was inducted into the Reidsville football hall of fame in 2019.

Nice post. But, I feel like Reidsville has lost transfers to Rock as well. It can't be that lopsided, unless its some I do not know about

I agree Tar Heel. The transfers go both ways for sure but I'd argue that the quality of kids moving to Rock from Reidsville over the years is overall below what goes the other way. From what I've observed the ones that leave Reidsville leave because they aren't going to play a significant role there. They can go to a weaker program and start. Speaks volumes to the gap that exists between these two county rivals.

At least 3 Rock head coaches came off the Reidsville tree. Sammy Jones, Lin Stadler and current coach Brad Baker all played and/or coached at Reidsville. Numerous RC assistants through the years have had Reidsville ties. Surely those guys learned some football at Reidsville. The fact is it's just more difficult to win at some places. There has never been a football culture at the Rock and I think it's safe to say there may never be.

That 2012 team was really good though! I was legit nervous about that game. 2015 was a close game vs a down Reidsville team.

Mule and TGT...I'm surprised at both of you...of course it was Pete Glidewell (his junior year) that kicked the FG that beat Page 3-0 in 1962....let's clear up some things....Madison-Mayodan did not come into existence until the fall of 1963.....the 1962 season, Reidsville was beaten 12-6 by MADISON high school in a game played on that awful dirt field behind Madison high school....game ended in near riot with fans arrested ( at least almost so)...some were prominent citizens of Reidsville (one was a noted Doctor and Wake Forest alum, God rest his soul)...don't forget that Madison-Mayodan high school actually beat Reidsville in 1986 by a score of 12-6 (game played at M-M)........only 2 times that M-M. Madison or McMichael has ever beaten Reidsville in football.......................and Mule, Reidsville was known as the Golden Lions then in the game summary you were remembering..........

Well, I was in college in Chapel Hill during those years and did not go to the 1962 game. We were the Golden Lions until the 1969(?) season?

You are referring to Dr. Hunter Moricle, who served for many years as Chairman of the Reidsville City Board of Education. He played for the Golden Lions and went on to be the Founding Father of the Wake Forest Booster Club. Sorry, I don't know what their official name is - Black and Gold or Deacon Club - and he was well known for providing "special" financial assistance to Wake Forest football and basketball players. I played golf in a regular foursome with him for many years in the 1970s and got to meet several Wake Forest athletes when they would stop by the club on Saturdays while we were on the golf course for their "meetings" with him. He was a great man and he was a true legend for providing free medical services to the needy. Yes, God rest his soul. There was no one more generous than him to so many people.

Lee looks so good to begin games . Then I’m not sure what happens. I know it’s tough for the coaches especially after tonight’s game
It's not tough, our own fans were booing the coaches for putting Lee back in the game.
