POST 10/23 SCORES HERE

Murphy loses to Franklin 33-13. Dominant performance by Panthers. Congratulations.

Back to the drawing board for my dogs ... That was rough.
First game doesn’t mean too much. Saw some good things from both sides of the ball from the Dawgs. Seen a bunch of 1st games like this end up in deep runs & this is from a Panthers fan.

That Eastern Randolph score was impressive. Looks like the Wildcats are going to be a big problem for the west this year. Is eastern Alamance down or are the warriors as good as that score looks?

I hope it does. I'm confident they are better than they showed tonight but they'll have to show it on the field. #11 for you guys was the best player out there. Excellent player, even better effort.

I thought it would be a close game. I would’ve even gave a slight edge to eastern alamance. That’s an impressive win

Hayesville played better than I expected them to after the stormed out scrimmage. Was impressed with the line play. The backs ran hard all night. Hats off to Asheville school athletic and explosive team, should be good again this year!

Agree with this assessment. The scrimmage would’ve helped work out some of the kinks and unforced errors. Line did play well and the backs looked strong. Asheville offense was fast in space. Excited to see this Hayesville team build off of this one.

The Asheville School team reminded me of the Mt Airy team we played a couple of years ago. Good athletic players, good size and well coached. They didn't have a back as good as Mason but their QB and WRs were better.

As @tarheel fan1 said, I would have given a slight edge to Eastern Alamance with them being at home especially.
Final was surprisingly one sided.
We shall see what happens when ER gets in conference and drops down to 2A teams. Got a few more 3As first…

ER absolutely dominated them. I’m not sure Eastern Alamance ever crossed their own 30 yard line. I know for a fact they never crossed the 50. ER had over 300 yards on the ground and dominated in the trenches. I don’t think Eastern Alamance is as bad as they looked but ER looked mighty good for the first game.

Thanks for info @msgtcody…
Now shhhhhh….
😂😂😂😂

This is the worst I've ever seen Murphy look in a season opener and that's no exaggeration, completely unprepared. I could say more but I'll leave at that as nothing substantive will actually change.

I remember back in 2016 watching a Murphy team drop one early to Franklin 42-7. They ended up having a pretty good year…

Latin pick-6
28-14

Good game to the hawks. Mitchell's gotta clean up some young team mistakes.
Besides the TD that should have if not for a bad call Mittchell had serval self affected wounds that cost them points. Trying to take some positive until the misstakes they did have some good drives and plays that showed if the line give them time the potential of the skill positions and probably the most speed I've seen for Mitchell.
Its not that the line doesn't have some good size but all but one are 10th graders and one starter out for 3 weeks , so the team wiill go as the line gets some games under thieir belt and improve which i believe they will.
Another issue will be health as meationed a starting lineman and last night #82 who hopefully will be ok becauce he looked good as a receiver and on D and some others came off the field limping some just appeared crapping but they're down in numbers this year so they need to stay healthy.

That's a fair point but it would also be fair to point out that was a very different coaching staff and a more talented group of players in 2016.

No, 33-13 isn't as bad as a 42-7 loss on paper, but as you know the scoreboard doesn't tell the full story in this one. I would contend it was every bit as poor as that night in '16 and in some instances worse. It was a thorough and comprehensive beating in all respects. Murphy's performance ranged from poor to terrible in nearly every facet of play.

We'll see how the coaching staff and players respond, but that was as listless, lifeless and uninspired of an opening game performance as I can recall from a Murphy football team.

Rough all the way around, the o-line was a different level of train wreck though and unless some personnel changes are made there it will be a very long season for Murphy.

Pretty sure everybody Andrews plays is a bigger school lol
I was going to say the same thing haha. But it does look like they will be bigger than Calhoun Falls (SC) in a few weeks. 83 enrollment and fielding a football team. School is so small the district closed it and the townspeople kept it open by turning the same building into a charter school.

Much respect for Rosman. Many great teams over the years and just trying to rebuild over the last 8 years. They play in a split conference which has some strong teams Mtn Heritage, Mitchell, Draughn etc. Rosman has around 350 to 375 enrollment I believe. If they allow the present Head Coach time I strongly believe he will bring them back

I saw a story about that guy posted by a news outlet and was thoroughly impressed. If they give him time and resources maybe we will see an appearance from Tigertown Rick again in the near future.

I feel like y'all always play poorly early in the season, maybe wait till week 3/4 to call the season lol.

2013 was another year Murphy looked rough the first few weeks then ended up with a good year. Got drilled by Franklin and Darlington (GA) first 2 weeks, barely escaped by a TD against Q Foundation (remember them?) week 3, then went on to a state title.

Not calling the season, simply stated that it was as disheartening of an opening performance as I can recall. Having had time to digest it, that take wasn't hyperbole or being a prisoner of the moment, it really was that bad.

It will be up to the players to pick themselves up and rise to the occasion and the coaching staff to make the necessary personnel adjustments to mitigate the issues. The ball is in their collective court as to whether this will be simply an early season blip on the radar or a foreshadowing of things to come.

I can't fault you, I feel similar about Cherokee/Swain every season. Regardless of the talent we posses it appears the coaching will always ensure that it is squandered in one way or another; until something changes or I am proven wrong I simply cannot harbor hope for any season ending with a ring, which imo is the only successful season.

That is Murphy alum Tyrea Allen, he's a good young coach and an even better person. I'm not sure what the immediate future holds for Coach Allen and Rosman but I'll say this much confidently: when Tyrea's son gets to high school in 5 years I'd bet money that he'll be a true star, the kid is an amazing athlete. If that's at Rosman High then Tiger fans will have something to be excited about in a few years if they can build anything around him.

How did Payne do for Murphy Friday? I still think he needs to be in the backfield
Looked good when he got the ball (long TD reception on Murphy's first drive) but couldn't the ball in his hands nearly enough. I agree wingback would be his best spot to maximize his touches in Murphy's offense but that's not going to happen.

Truthfully it wouldn't have mattered who was in the backfield for Murphy last week though, the o-line couldn't block anybody.

Maybe Tyrea will come back to Murphy and get the Head Coach job

Wait till this Friday night if you thought last Friday was bad sir.

What family ball did they play. Is gentry's son the coach or something. ?
Gentry and watson familys are very close.. so might as well be blood kin. Jwat was gentrys hand pick dude and many people questioned that choice back then to. Most folks thought nelson the guy who was d coach under Gentry should of gotten the head job when gentry retired but they went with gentrys choice watson instead and they have really suffered for it!
