Northeastern Eagles

3 of us dogs went over to DH Conley tonight to see Northeastern and Goob. We met bud33345, great guy and knows football. Well, I was at first disappointed in Northeastern play in first half. At halftime they adjusted and used their size and strength and over powered a big Conley team. Norteasterns Defense is really good, but offense has some catching up to do. Goob, good luck against Indian River and I didn't see any reason not to think we'll see you last week of November. GO BULLDOGS!

You guys are true gentlemen and know alot about what you see on the field. You guys are alot of fun. So, My teams whole coaching staff was there scouting Conley so I guess I needed to be there too to compare notes. As far as the game goes, I felt their where some week one jitters. Conley's QB threw some straight up dimes in the beginning of the game. Coach Moore counter punched in the second half and roughed up the Conley QB with LB blitzes and getting one on one matchups for his DE's. After 2 strong hits on his QB the Conely coach went back to power rushing with the big RB and short passes in the flat/screens. Im sure the Conley coach made a business decision when it came to conference play for his QB at that moment and didn't want his guy taken anymore of that beating. I mean every coach in his conference was there. Lol. NE was more than capable of handling that short pass/power run play. I was impressed by the NE freshman QB he made some nice throws in the flats and was able to be consistently on target when his receivers would do a 15 yard dig route. It was there all night and Conley could not stop it. All in all the future looks bright for NE. Conley is a formidable opponent year end year out and NE has got the best of them 3 years straight. They will get better each week. I suspect both Freshwater and Spellman are going to have huge seasons.

There was one throw Conley QB made before he took those hits that was highly questionable. It looked like it bounced like a volleyball off the turf. Dogs assured me it was catch. Beings I was on the far side of the field at the time, I reckon I'll take his word for it. Lol. It helped account for Conley's only td.

I'm not sure it was a catch, I think they were very fortunate.

How about our kicker though? I thought he came out maybe a little nervous in the first half. Had some not so good punts. After halftime though he stepped up and showed everyone why he's one of the best in the state. Its a big step moving from Gates County to Northeastern. "We want Caleb" LOL!! We'll you got him, the boy stepped up big time in the spotlight. After the kick he just turned and pointed towards the student section of Conley. Tell me I didn't call it Dogs79, I told you that kid was going to split the uprights and turn and point towards them.

Yeah, I kinda figured it was incomplete when I saw it live. The refs were pretty inconsistent when it came to PI calls too. There were also some great runs clicked off by the NE RB where a phantom holding call seemed to appear out of nowhere once he was 40 yards down field and in the endzone late in the first half. Realistically NE could have won by alot more. They made more big plays on offense. In the end,it is, what it is, if there were penalties coaches can clean it up in film study and the team can move forward. Luckily those calls didn't cost NE the game. NE was able to showcase their defense to get the win.

Yeah the kicker was al lil shaky at first. Coming from a small school to an environment like Conley had to give him some butterflies. Two totally different worlds. His last punt was nice and high and you could see the potential only for the ref to cheat him about 15 yards in my opinion. He made the field goal when it counted and he took some jawing from the Conley crazies. It was a good experience for him I think and a feather in his cap come playoff time.

He's good!!

A good kicker is a BIG asset no matter the team. I know as SWO has had some great one over the years. Looks like he will save some big games this year for the Eagles. Congrats. Hope we get to see him in person.

SWO#1 your a good dude. You are very knowledgeable about high school fb, especially SWO. You actually make me feel guilty about some of my posts. Not once have you ever gotten offended by anything I said or to my knowledge countered me with a jab at Northeastern. I respect you a lot and what you say, I just want you to understand that. If only you were at the Northeastern SWO game last year. I know you would've sided with me. Your cut from a different cloth.

We could've used him against Reidsville. We are a work in progress and have what will no doubt be our toughest game all yr (playoffs included) coming up Friday.

Otis, why didn't you come last night. We missed you, and John and everyone left early.

I'm on call at work. We had a guy leave a few months back and we have hired a new kid but it will be a bit before he is allowed to go out on call at night. I've been pulling my call and the other guys call just to help out. So every other week I'm tied up. Money is good though.

Tonight we will face our toughest opponent of the year. This includes any team we may encounter in the playoffs as well. We are on the road against a loaded 5a Indian River team. They have one of the top running backs in the state as well as one of the top wide receivers. It's going to be a long night if our corners play the way they did Monday night against Conley. Indian River has a big explosive wide receiver, and two really good backs. Hopefully Spellman and Freshwater can keep a lot of pressure on the qb and cause him to make some mistakes.

If we can pull an upset on Indian River then we will run the table. Bruce Radar of Wavy 10 is covering this game tonight. He said it's the best game in the 757.

I think NE will go as far as Spellman and Freshwater take them. NE has some nice pieces on offense but it looked to me defense is what will win them games. Now how much do you extended Freshwater and Spellman in non conference is the question? From what I hear Indian river is a physical bunch. The only one who knows the answer to that is coach Moore. Does he try to make big statements in non conference? Or does he try to develop some younger players for future seasons against tough opponents and keep his studs fresh. NE has a unique situation where they can do the opposite and play the studs in non conference and make statements. Then rest those guys in conference play and make a run in the playoffs. Not many 2A schools have this luxury. I'd say Tarboro in 1A has this down to a science and it has proven to be successful for many years.

Run the table?
Yes sir, this team is as good as or better than Wake Forest. Check them out and you'll see. The line is Indian River -17 with the local bookies. I layed $200 on Northeastern and I'm not sure I'm going to like it. Indian River is that good.
