Going back to last weeks game, Mt Airy's Tyler Mason carried the ball 4 times, scored 4 touchdowns and picked up 121 yards.
Last night Mason had 5 carries, scored 5 touchdowns and picked (unofficially) 209 yards.

9 Consecutive carries, 9 touchdowns!! Unofficially 330 Yards. Anybody know of any of other player accomplished anything like that?

No doubt. Historical numbers! Wonder if anybody at any level of football has scored 9 consecutive rushing touchdowns on 9 carries??? The streak is still active. he came out after his 5th carry. He also has 96 career rushing touchdowns and 105 total touchdowns. Last night he passed Michael Dobson into 4th place on all-time career rushing yards. Mason has done this on very few carries.

There may be National implications here.

He has some.very good blocking but open field just runs away. Was impressed with Mario on that wide receiver sweep. See ya

Could you imagine if he ran it 15-20 times in first half his stats would be unreal and I am talking just first half of all games but 1. They have so many weapons they try to spread it out and Reid been out last two. A great group of skilled position players that does not come along often.

God must have loved Andy, Opie, Barney and Aunt Bea a lot because he sure has blessed Mt Airy for a number of years with super talent.
OR he could have a warped sense of humor and wants to terrorize other parts of the State.
I will go with first.

But both Starmount and East Surry had amazing games last evening. I think we need to hear about those also.

Agree. I don't think most people realize how good Starmount is. They look at the MA score and dismiss them. That game was much closer than the final score shows. The first half was a dog fight with Mt. Airy capitalizing on a few mistakes. That Starmount team is hardnosed, very talented and much better than they were earlier in the season. They will be a hard out for any team. The North Surry and East Surry game next week will pit two 5-0 conference teams going for the Foothills 2A championship.

It also speaks to Mason's greatness. Against Starmount he had 152 yards rushing and 4 touchdowns on 14 carries (just under 11 yards per carry). He was sitting out when the game got out of hand. Tyler steps up when facing good teams.

I have seen this before. I think it has something to do with the NHFS camera.
Think Stephen Colbert GIF by The Late Show With Stephen Colbert

While I am sure he is a great player, those stats say more about who your playing than anything
I agree. It says you really do not have any idea how good the guys is. Good thing you are not on the Virginia Tech staff, you were part of the Shrine Bowl selection group or the people that have him ranked as the Number 1 Running back in NC.
I remember some, not many, but some said the same thing about that guy from Albemarle 20 odd years ago. TA SOMETHING. Maybe it was TOUCHDOWN ANYTIME McClendon.

One thing that does help Tyler Mason achieve so much is the other 3 running back that play with Tyler. All are strong as raging bulls, fast as a speeding bullet and built like roaring train. If you doubt what I am saying, go to Maxpreps and look up the Yards per Carry Stats for the entire state and let me know what you find.

Second, is the offensive line that just opens hole after hole for these backs to run through. Load the box and they will blister you to the outside.

If Mt Airy did it only against a few teams, ok, you might have a point. But it is against everybody for two years. Only Tarboro and Eastern Randolph slowed, but did not stop, them last year.

Thanks Doug. I hope both the Rams and Bears are healthy for a deep run.

Yes they're all capable. All star players. The team is just so well disciplined and carry out their tasks.

Ps. We need Martin at the Ram House next year to follow in his dad's footsteps and win a state championship for Starmount 😂

I told everyone in 2001 that McLendon would put up big numbers in all classes but there would be less long runs due to the skill athletes on the other side. Mason has more speed and is a special talent but anyone watching film (this one is good example) will immediately notice the level of the opponent is very inferior (see the free safety here for reading the play, aggressiveness, and tackling fundamentals).

I agree that South Stokes and Elkin were not the greatest competition. But who else has 9 consecutive carries for 9 touchdowns over two games?
In the very first post, I ask for other examples of a similar experience. I have not seen it, I doubt hardly anyone else has. I am still interested in hearing about other outstanding performances from other players on other teams.

Have never seen any listings of TDs on consecutive carries. Obviously does not happen often.

Have seen where a team had a goal line specialist RB that scored on most carries but his runs were all less than three yards. Not as impressive.

He had close to a 1,000 yards in playoffs last year! I would say those were good teams.
Here you go.

North Stokes 1 carry 24 yards
North Rowan 9 carries 197 yards 4 TDs
Hayesville 10 carries 147 yards 4 TDs
Eastern Randolph 14 carries 195 yards 3 TDs
Draughn 17 carries 297 yards 5 TDs
Tarboro 23 carries 149 yards 3TDs

Total Playoffs : 999 yards 13.5 yards per carry and 19 TDs

You guys might of had him if things had been run and going like they are now. But I doubt it.

That is what I heard from a reliable source, but not confirmed. Maybe Elkin guys could say. I am pretty sure Elkin had the 100m track conference champion. Whoever was chasing him on that 5th run was fast. He was stride for stride about 1-2 yards apart for a long way. Only guy that has stayed with him this year.

I attended two playoff games last year Mt Airy against Draughn and Mt Airy vs ER. The star back for Draughn breaks one and the Bears defense back runs him down easily. Mt Airy gets the ball and Mason breaks loose and he just walks away. Smooth and fast the good ones make it look easy.

Was at Lenoir Rhyne-Newberry game yesterday afternoon. Had a long and interesting conversation with their AD and College President. Mt Airy coaching staff should be getting a call early this week.

The President said something really interesting to me. He said the Transfer Portal has helped a lot of D2 schools, BUT it has also hurt some. They had a running back Named Mario Anderson last year. Offensive Player of the Year in the SAC.

This year he is the number #1 starting tailback at......South Carolina.
He said, you get the really good player that no one else wanted, you may not get to keep him.

I will go with first.
Or He could be trying to say he sorry to the people of Mayberry for getting them a few really embarrassing fans. I'll go with this one.

On Friday night, The Granite Bears were without 4 players, 3 starters. They simply adjusted to next man up and kept going. In the fourth quarter they played mostly JV players who had moved up. Held their own.

Mt Airy is going to be just fine the next two to three years, at least.
I hope Allegheny gets the chance to win a game or two in the playoffs.
