Mack is Back Part 2

Correct, forgot to mention that to Nepsy. Both teams felt like they didn't meet enough with the ACC scheduling so they scheduled some non-conference games, which is pretty cool.

I love that they play a rivalry game like this every year and think State should play Duke as well every year. I thin every teams should add one more game like this and get rid of their their scrimmages. I think scrimmages should not count to making you bowl eligible either.

Don’t know if any of you all have seen this. Might make a cool Christmas present.

Is Howell playing in the game against the Pack? I'm hearing chatter.
No idea. They say he's day to day, but I think he sits this week and gives Maye and Criswell some game experience. He gets pumped to play State, especially since that clip that State put out on Twitter before the game last year but I don't know what he or his family wants to do right now. Mack says he's as good as gone to the NFL and then Sam comes back and says he doesn't know for sure. If we had something to play for, I'd be more interested in how it plays out, but at this point, just be done with this year and get these young guys on the field next year.

Sure hope he gets a lot of burn next year along with Pettaway and Hampton. Those two backs along with Green/Beau/Jones outside, Nesbit over the middle and Downs in the slot.

He's what we've been missing most of the year. Big target, extremely athletic, can take the top off a defense and go up and get it.

Simply no words for what those last 2 minutes were.

If I am Mack I am telling Sam to go get ready for the draft. There is zero reason for that kid to roll out and run the ball 20 times in the Kellogs Fruit Loop bowl and take the kinda shots he took tonight.

Time to get ready for the 22 season.

Down Two of three starters on the DL, two of three LB starters , 1 safety, and the nickel and you still can not win the game. This does not even take into consideration one of the starting corners from last year that got hurt in the preseason and has not played. On top of it State did not play well and UNC still found a way to lose. UNC should not go to a bowl game. I mean really beat a division 1 team who has hardly won a game to get bolw eligible is a crime. Interesting for State, they may get everyone back on defense next year except one DL.

Injuries are a part of football. State was still about a TD favorite to win the game at kickoff. One of their best teams in years needed a miracle to pull off a W in Raleigh. That's what would concern me if I were a State fan. They can't keep getting owned on the recruiting trail because:

Ja Conley (injured by the way), Power Echols, and Travis Shaw are going to be on a different level than Cam'ron Kelly, Trey Morrison, Jeremiah Gemmel and Ray Vohasek.

Coaching, I'll give you, has been terrible for the better part of the season. Definitely needs to be a staff shake up. HOWEVER, one more class like these last three, and they'll be able to overwhelm teams with talent. Even mediocre coaching wins that game tonight.

Lol...Travis Shsw hasn't set foot on campus but he is gonna be a difference maker.

Truth is Conley, Murphy, Grimes, Evans played most of the year, all big recruits and the defense was still real bad. Gonna assume if Echols, Ritzie, RaRa were ready to contribute they would have seen the field more.

Mack got a ton of hype for all the right reasons. He has energized a program but the reality is outside of Notre Dame they probably have had better recruiting classes the last 2 years than any team they played this year and needed a win over Wofford to be bowl eligible.

This was a disastrous year regardless of how many UNC coaches want to blame it on the media for over hyping.

The development of talent is a HUGE concern. NC State's Oline doesn't have a 4 or 5 star on it. Two are converted DLs. Yet they have a top 20 NFL pick and probably 2 draft prospects on it.

Talent isn't the issue. Whole scale coaching changes are required.

I'm curious. Mel Tucker was tossed around as a canidate 2-3 years ago. Would you UNC guys like to replay that decision now?

Tucker just signed a 10 year contract at stay at MSU.

UNC needs real coaches. The upperclassmen on this team is horrible. I just don't get why Mack don't play the younger players. SR #4 Morrison is 5'7 3 star recruit that constantly gets picked on or never makes any tackles. The freshman Nash is 6'2 195 free safety also a high 4 star recruit. Why are we not playing our younger players. They are more talented just need experience. This was a wasted year and opportunity. Sam's body language also showed he really didn't want to play tonight

Wow lets unpack your delusional thinking. Losing seven players on Defense for the year and still playing at a high level.. one player that was a main candidate for player of years plus the 2/3 of DL and LB starters ( all better than UNC ) and still play at a high level ( again higher than UNC) This is called program building and state looks in good shape on defense as 26 our the first 28 are back with a good foundation of young players in the DL and LB and secondary groups. State look look solid for the following year as well as many of the kids have at least two years of eligibility left.. As I understand all you want to talk about is wait until next years for the hyped recruits who were not good enough to beat out the players from one of the worst units in the ACC... Go sell that to someone without blue tinted glasses. I am sure mack can sell it to another high ranking.... but can he back it up.

You just blew a year with arguably your best QB of all time.. I guess the Wollford guys are going to lite it up. Very impressive that they put up 34 on them .. a 1-10 team giving up 34 points a game to Division 2 opponents. I like State's hand a little better as they continue with a very solid QB who has shackles on him but still managed 35 TD passes and only a few interceptions.. Actually five but a few of them were hail Mary's. He still has two years.

Mack is back every February and the fans are as delusional as the decade of ND after Holtz.

Ironic.. Mack has a losing record to State.. Doreen has a winning record against Carolina. If you take State, last two coaches.. 10-5 state/unc. rivalries are fun, but the optimism ballon looks just like the chief, with some suspect recruiting shenaganians...just like the chief.. You know you are supposed to win when you cheat.

BTW. was the win a fluke or did UNC show its character as program and choke.

Yes, Doeren has been at State for nine years. Mack is in year three of a rebuild - three years removed from a 2-9 season. His first top 25 class are true sophomores. And there freshman year was screwy thanks to Covid. Anyone that knows football will tell you that's a huge difference.

I had a parent ask me why her son wasn't starting? My response. What are you seeing at practice that makes you think he should be starting? I don't attend practice. End of discussion. "You play how you practice"

I read this alot about it being year 3. To be sure thats not along time but following that mindset let me ask this-

Who is responsible for last year? Outside of Howell those were all Fedora's recruits correct. All the NFL guys were recruited by Fedora. If you tell me it was all MAck last year then who is responsible for this season? 90% his kids right?

If you had to bet your life on it, outside of Howell who is a sure fire NFL draft pick on this current team. Downs and I think Grimes. Zero Oline...Front 7 on defense? Maybe Murphy?

^^There's nothing delusional about that - just facts bud. I'm not saying they haven't lost games they should've won. They absolutely have. The team has some flaws.

But if I'm a State fan, I'm not as thrilled about that win, and the overall direction of the program after about a decade of Doeren. You were almost a TD favorite and squeeked out a win after:

Two blocked punts, two FGs inside the five, recovering an onside kick, and a busted coverage.

How long can Doeren count on stuff like that while he's getting his ass handed to him in recruiting? That's what I'd be asking myself as a State fan.

That's my point. Mack really isn't even playing with his guys yet. His first class was thrown together last minute - ranked about 30th. The '20 class aren't even eligible for the draft. However, you can already tell, there's a noticeable difference, physically, between Murphy and Vohasek, Echols and Gimmel, Conley and Morrison, etc. They need a bit more experience, and they'll get it. One more good class and that'll be four consecutive years of top 15 classes. Then you'll have talent at every level on both sides of the ball in the two deep.

Still need at least mediocre coaching, though. You can't have poor OL play like this team, this year, and expect to win very many games. That should be Mack's #1 priority right now. Keep guys out of the portal and reevaluate his position coaches. They had five or six sacks last night, so things look a little more promising on that side of the ball. Murphy, Evans, Gray...studs. At a minimum, Searels has to go. He's terrible. Was a trainwreck at Miami and he's been bad here.

Says the UNC fan whose team "squeaked out a win" (actually twice the last 2 seasons) against a Wake Forest team made up of 2-3 stars; even rushed the field after getting by said 2-3 stars on your home field. How long can Mack count on stuff like that when he's getting his ass handed to him in the coaching department? That's what I'd be asking myself as a UNC fan.

. Here is an interesting fact about football.. Depth matters, character of program matters, when every kids thinks he deserves playing time by showing up.... development suffers.... DD got a wake up call a few years ago and realized after losing a great coordinator and a few assistants he need to return to developing a deeper team and better assistants. Despite your assessment it appears one of the two programs is heading in a positive trajectory. They beat the heels even though the talent level was so decimated with injuries and next year they will be deeper than UNC again with kids who have performed at a high level in college.....not still reading their HS clippings.

So my turn to make a suggestion about concerns..... if I was a UNC fan would be asking myself how can I suck so bad with so much talent and the best QB UNC has ever had.... ( a difference maker to keep you in almost every game). He really is special and you guys are going to miss him. Next years.. more press clippings with two guys that could only put up 34 on Woolford...a 1-10 team in D2 who typically gave up 34 to D2 teams. 3-5 to what ....

For the record.. specials teams is big part of the game.....it usually comes with good coaching. However catching a blocked punt for a first down is a classic fluke. Scoring twice in a minute on UNC is not a fluke.... it comes with the classic development and poor coaching at UNC.... How many three and outs? BTW. Right now today,,,,,,, How many active DL at UNC are in the NFL... I am not aware on any..I think there are two on the taxi squad.. how many from State. 5 or 6. development matters. How many active OL from UNC are in the NFL. 2 and how many from State.3 and I don't remember any of them being high recruited but two are All Pro's ... Development matters..

You mean the same WF team that *checks notes* beat State? Lol.

The Heels will need to make serious changes on the offensive side. They don’t have a QB on the roster that is built to take the punishment like Howell. He led the team in rushing with 1096 yds, but he lost 271 yards. That’s a lot of beating on the body, they can’t afford next year. QB won’t last the season.
