I wanted to start a thread for any off-season news. Such as coaches and players moving.

Being a NWG fan for probably longer than most people on here have been alive. I'll go ahead and get the rumor mill going now that football is officially over..... This came from a credible source inside the school..... with that said, it is being rumored, former east forsyth defensive coordinator coach Beal has been spotted in the football office's at NWG HS. Could the Vikings bring Beal back to NW Guilford?

Does anyone have anymore information this?

NWG seems like a pretty good job. I get the impression they have good attendance at their games and nice community support. But there seems to be a 2nd round of the playoffs type ceiling there. Even when the Vikings are good, I don't recall them making any especially deep playoff runs. Seems like they don't have the athletes and talent there to compete with the more elite 4A West teams come playoff time. Though, with the new alignment, I assume they'll be 7 or 8A? Not that that will make the playoffs any easier.

2013 the Vikings finished top 5 in 4AA after beating East Forsyth, Page, & Richmond county. They then went to Mallard Creek and lost to the eventual state champs. I think that's best team in school history.

IMO, NWG could be a powerhouse. They have more money than any public school in the triad area. If you get the right coaches it could be like Grimsley in a few years. They will need bigger facilities and transfers but if you build it the kids will come. I've seen NW with their same demographics beat the best teams in Guilford and Forsyth. Get a couple big time players in that school and sky's the limit

Guilford Co. does not have open enrollment, does it? If so, they probably cannot depend on getting too many talented transfers to NWG. Though, I know kids and their parents always find ways around this, unfortunately. I wonder how many kids on Grimsley's team should be going to other Guilford Co. high schools? And with the machine Grimsley has going now, it seems like they will be the destination for most all the talented transfer players. Until they start to fall off and another county teams takes their place. But it is tough to see that happening anytime soon unless their coach decides to move on.

Some schools get transfers for "academic programs" and thats how they circumvent the rules.

Not sure they have more money than Grimsley? Or maybe Grimsley just spends wayyy more on their facilities

In Guilford County certain schools can get the transfers because of the "academic programs". This is always a loop hole that they can use. That's how they get transfers to come without moving into their zone. NW Guilford really doesn't have any "academic program" to draw students there.

Thank you…I have mentioned this multple
Times on here….northwest needs some kind of academy to even playing field

Does Grimsley have an "academic program" that some have used to justify transferring there? And if a football player transfers there under the guise of wanting to be in that "academic program", does the school system follow up to make sure that student does indeed take part in that academy?

They can take a day or 2 of classes and decide they dont want to do the program anymore.

If that happens, that student should be required to go back to the high school in their district. If that means a talented football player has to go back to Western Guilford from Grimsley, so be it.

Grimsley is the team to beat. Outside of them who's next in Guilford County? I will go with Northern. They return a Senior heavy team in 25

Dudley is on the decline as a program. They will not only be losing a strong senior class, but a significant portion of their coaching staff has moved to Northeast, taking some of their best returning players with them. The JV team also wasn’t as talented or successful as it has been in recent years. It’s disappointing for fans because we’re finally going to see them play Grimsley, a matchup that should have happened between 2019 and 2023 when both teams were strong. I mentioned a few years ago that by the time the game actually takes place, it wouldn’t be the same. It will now be Grimsley, then Northern next year, who should compete for or win the 6A title, followed by everyone else. Northern would have given Weddington a better game in defeat if they hadn’t lost their quarterback at the end of the season.

Much of the Dudley coaching staff has gone to NEGHS? Why? Not much football tradition there as far as I know and not much recent success. I am sure the fan and community support is much better at Dudley than at NEGHS.

Their OC, who many believed would become the next HC at Dudley, took the head coaching job at NE instead. Half of the coaching staff followed him, and some returning starters are making the move as well. Its not just about the school; its about the coaching staff, which has the potential to turn NE into a powerhouse. With their leadership, they’re re poised to turn things around.

But Guilford County doesn’t have open enrollment?

Technically, kids don’t have the freedom to choose their schools, but they often go where they want, and this happens in every county across the state. The extent to which this is allowed can vary depending on the area, with some places cracking down more than others. In Charlotte, students do move around, but it’s not on the same scale as a team like Grimsley, which can draw talent from a much larger area as much as they want. This is why teams in Charlotte may have a strong run for a few years before it fades, while Grimsley can remain dominant for much longer, with kids coming in from all over the triad from Winston to Burlington every year, often with little resistance, as long as the coaching staff stays in place.

Grimsley success has not been going on that long to be honest…..maybe 8 years? And 2 state titles I believe?

From Winston to Burlington ? That's a big pile of BS. Without naming names, exactly how many athletes have come to Grimsley from either location ?
P.S. I think you have some " Triad ties, " but you're basically, in your own words, a " Charlotte dude. "
P.S.S. Are you related to Mister Honda ?

Yo, the crowd and love from the community be mad strong for the program. But looks like they hit a wall in the playoffs, usually gettin knocked out in the second round. History shows, even when they doin good, the Vikings just can't break through, always gettin stopped by them top-tier teams in the 4A West.

My ties within the Triad provide me with more insight than what Ive seen on these boards, especially from you. I have personal relationships with coaches, players, and parents all throughout Guilford County, and anything I want to know is just a phone call away. I also travel back and forth frequently, particularly in the spring and summer. I won’t name specific players, though, because that wouldn’t t be fair to them or their families, who made arrangements to place their kids in a winning program.
Off the top of my head, about half of the starters aren’t t in-district. There are at least 4-5 standout players from the 2027-2028 class who are from High Point one in particular, made a big defensive play in the state championship game. This list goes on, but that’s just how the game is now, and you really can’t blame any parent for transferring their kid or going out of their way to go out of district. Every school recruits but Grimsley just has the perfect formula working for them now.
Grimsley was actively recruiting a player from Hough to come back to the Triad and play for them at the QB1s commitment announcement. They also recruit from other schools feeder middle schools. In fact, a few of their freshman had to return to their original schools last summer due to this. And the area from Winston-Salem to Burlington isn’t t too far to travel because many of the kids play for the Ducks travel youth team, which pulls from all over and majority of them end up at Grimsley.

PS. No I’m not related to Mister Honda or anyone on these boards.
Good day sir 🫡

that's freaking brilliant....I wish NWG had a coach that cared that much
Very brilliant..NWG could very well be in the same situation one day because there’s not much of a difference between the two schools. It all boils down to the coaching staff, winning and most importantly timing.

There is a huge difference between the schools…..Grimsley has a certain class that no other school offers in the county which allows easy access….northwest doesn’t offer such class

I meant as far as demographics and things of that nature.

New Era, not doubting anything you say, but that is a bunch of crap and there is absolutely nothing fair about it. I really hate that high school sports are now getting ruined like college football. I know it happens everywhere, but that doesn’t make me feel any better.

I agree, I can barely watch college anymore because it’s strictly pay for play. The only difference right now between College and High school is money but it’s all a game of recruiting.

Since you're a Charlotte dude, please give some insight on the bevy of cheating Charlotte schools that have been CAUGHT cheating/recruiting. The Charlotte schools were using the " portal " before the word was invented.
P.S. What do you mean, " especially from you. ? "
Good day, Sir.

I never said Charlotte doesn’t recruit; in fact, I’ve mentioned that it happens in every county. Some areas, however, crack down on it harder than others. You just proved my point by bringing up Charlotte schools being caught cheating, they got caught because they actually crack down on it.
It seems like you’re re taking offense because you’re re a Grimsley fan, but I actually have good relationships with a few of their assistant coaches and players. The only reason I used them as an example is that they’re re a top program, and I was offering some insight since you questioned my ties.

PS: I noticed you questioned my ties then didn’t deny anything I said afterwards but got defensive, that’s very telling.
