Mack is Back Part 2

Classy bunch in Neyland. Complete embarrassment.
The students showed there butts for sure. Selling beer at games don’t help. There needs to be a limit. There was some big calls missed by the refs but don’t act like Ole Miss fans.

There is also the aspect of physical maturity. A 17-18 year physically develops from being a boy to a man those next 3-4 years. This is true regardless of the sport. Few 17-18 year olds are physically ready to compete against men. I was a walk on wrestler in college for 2 years. I was a high school hot shot but I got put on my back more times in a day my first week than I did my entire high school career. Simply the difference between competing against boys and men, which in my case included nationally ranked and a number of multi year collegiate all-americans. Few get to play at the collegiate level. The number of freshmen that see playing time is a rare minority and it is the extremely rare freshman that can significantly contribute right out of high school.
My son is a freshman just turned 18 in September. He just got to make his 2nd start at LT of the year at the D3 school he is at. You can tell how more physically develop other kids are that’s been playing. He will live in the weight room when the season is over. It’s awesome that you wrestled in college.

5 games left. 3 on the road. 4 against ranked teams( assuming Pitt is ranked this week)

How many Ws do they get?? Need 2 to be bowl eligible. If they don't go to a bowl how far does that set back the program??

The game at Carter Finley could end up being pretty big.
I think they'll win 2 out of 3 against Wake/State/Wofford. They've had Pitt's number as of late but that QB will easily throw for 400 and 4 TD's. Notre Dame isn't firing on all cylinders but we'll make them look like a top 10 team.

No idea what would happen if they don't go to a bowl. I don't think everyone will just de-commit or transfer but it's clear the OL coach and Longo/Bateman aren't getting it done. Mack seems to have a lot of issues with Longo on the sidelines including the "WTF was that call?" moment yesterday. Still would like to see Bateman with these highly recruited kids rather than the current group.

Hoping they come back well rested and motivated for these next 5 critical games after the BYE.

Same thing every week. Somehow they think the other kids on the bench would do worse.
I mean if the reason Ritzie, Silver, RaRa and Echols aren’t playing, just to name a couple off top of my head, is because the scheme is too hard to pick it up then simplify it and just let the talent go after the football each play on defense!!!!

Ritzie is playing a ton. The others are not including Blackwell/Paysour/Jones etc. I have no idea why we're not at least trying those guys out as no one outside of Downs has shown anything 7 games in. There is nothing complicated with the scheme, it's baffling.

Yeah...I think Gemmelll and Fox are good players but don't know why they get 80% of the snaps at this point.

I only got to listen to the game yesterday and didn’t realize Ritzie had played as much as I seen today when the snap counts were posted!! My bad!!

No worries, easy to miss when you've got 11 guys. I love getting him burn his freshman year which will pay dividends next year, just wish they'd do the same with a few of the other guys.

Not a lot of people would have projected the current AP poll.

13. Notre Dame
16. Wake Forest
18. NC State
23. Pittsburgh

Notre Dame, a soft maybe because they have had a favorable schedule so far. The other three, not a chance and all are exceeding expectations this year. Right now looks like NC State/Wake v Pitt in the ACC championship game. That would be refreshing but still a lot of football to play.

Wow! That is an accomplishment at any level AppVol, especially in the line. Technique and strength are paramount for those positions. Most freshmen getting playing time are in the skill positions where speed can make up for those two attributes. Can't teach speed. The next two years he will get much bigger and stronger. Better have the fridge full when he comes home on break because it will empty when he goes back to school. Very empty.

He is the backup RT and LT. The LT got concussed the last game so he got his 2nd start of the year Saturday. Did you wrestle at UNC when John Mark Bentley was there.

Transfer Portal is on fire today. UNC, ECU, Miami, LSU, Minny thus far today. Free agency will heat up over the next month.
Somebody really needs to set down and explain to some of these kids how the Transfer portal works. Some of them are clueless. Going from bad to worse. Over 2500 players in the portal. Some of these guys will never touch the field again.

Or they will transfer down and be paying for school. Some kids need to learn that all you may ever be is a special teams player. You might never play a down. I told my son when he wanted to play college that it’s the coaches job to recruit someone that might take your spot. It’s up to you to put the work in not to let it happen.

If you listen to a lot of power 5 kid’s, when they’re committing. A lot of them are now saying , I look forward to playing my next 3 years. That’s just not how it usually works. The heavy recruiting and social media pub, has made a lot of them delusional from reality. By time they figure it out, it’s to late.

I graduated in '81. Was there with C.D. Mock the first UNC national champ who went on to coach there for a number of years after Coach Lamb retired.

Actually, that is how it works at Alabama. If you haven't moved onto the pros by the end of year three, your playing time is probably being cut your senior year by those coming behind you. Possibly at Georgia too. Everywhere else, you are one in a thousand if it makes sense for you to jump to the NFL before your senior year. Ego and reality have a hard collision for far too many.

So true Alabama. One of my son’s teammates Cam Jackson at the Citadel played with TJ Yeldon in High Schools. They asked him was he coming back his senior year. Nope. I’ll get a better opportunity moving on to the NFL. 😂

I love how you guys know who should or should not be on the field. I’d be willing to bet none of you have ever attended a single practice. You judge college freshmen on what you saw them do in high school. 🤡’s

A lot of players just don't make the transition from high school to college. Not necessarily based off of their athletic ability. Pier pressure, academics, the big stage, or just not grasping the day to day responsibilities of a college athlete. A lot of them are not prepared for what you do, when the lights are off. You gotta be able to adapt.

He's back on the 4A Boards! Welcome, again!

Aight, let's start from scratch.

So you're playing Juniors/Seniors/Super Seniors and you're getting the same exact result over and over again. Meanwhile, highly recruited/motivated kids are on the bench. Now, let's piggy back on what has been said on here in addition to what we're seeing from the college kids on a national landscape. Just yesterday, kids from ECU, UNC, Miami, LSU, Minny, Wisconsin etc saw kids hit the portal. To me, I sure would like to see what these young cats can do over these guys that have not progressed in their 3rd4th/5th years in the program rather than see them hit the portal. Seeing how the season has played out thus far and the big asperations the program and staff have are out the window, I don't see how playing the young kids and see what you've got to work with next year, could possibly be some clown idea.

Looking forward to your response!

Again we are not, or at least I am not attending practices at Chapel Hill. We, excuse me, I have no idea what they can or can’t do. As much noise as you guys made on Brown’s triumphant return, it looks like you would respect his decision making concerning who plays and who doesn’t. We all have opinions, ours just don’t count. We’re not paid to make decisions on who’s on the field. That’s all I’m saying.
As far as being on the 4A board, I didn’t know segregation was back in vogue. If that is the case this COLLEGE thread shouldn’t be on the 4A board either.

Again, I didn't like the hire when it happened, I've made that clear. I'm aware my opinion doesn't matter and that it doesn't count -- I'm on a High School football forum, so I'm not on some big platform on ESPN making this claim. I got hit one time for commenting on a County rival on a 2A board, so I decided to pay that forward to you. Also, I didn't start this thread. Furthermore, the public isn't allowed at practices, so only the staff knows what they're showing in practice. However, I don't put too much stock on practices as how many times have coaches claimed their squad had a fantastic week of practice after getting beat by 40 in a game. My point is this, if your JR's/SR's aren't changing the result week to week and your goals are squashed, why not switch some things up and see what you've got with the young guys?

WR's- Josh downs has 60 catches in 7 games. The #2 and #3 receivers have a combined 22 catches (11 a piece). So, 11 catches in 7 games for both players. One is a JR and the other is a SR. As far as the #1 Tight End, he's a Super Senior and also has 11 catches in 7 games. So 33 catches combined for the JR/SR #2/#3 WR and SR #1 TE. Meanwhile, 3 highly recruited WR's on the bench in addition to a 4* TE.

OL- They're so bad it should be illegal. JR's/SR's all over. They have a 4* true frosh at tackle and another in Pounds, but I'll give the staff the benefit of the doubt on this one as you never see true frosh starting on a Power 5 school on the OL. However, they do have a few RS freshman and sophomores that can't possibly do any worse than what has been displayed over the first 7 games. If they haven't done it now, than I'm not confident they'll switch anything up with 5 ranked teams coming up on the schedule.

Defense- We've seen a few changes implemented, most due to injury. They're giving up 29 points per game and have Seniors at MLB, DT, CB and a JR at S. Those guys haven't gotten it done against Miami, Florida St and Georgia Tech but maybe they'll turn the corner as JR/SR's against Notre Dame, Pitt and Wake, all 3 teams are ranked.

@NBBears20124ACHAMPS do you think after this weeks game in the last 4 games of the year Mac might play some young kids that haven’t played since you still red shirt them.

The very reason there is a message board is for opinions..........lol. Kinda like when you have an opinion about kneeling, the flag, Covid etc,etc....

Power and RaRa have played on special teams. The site I just saw showed RaRa playing in 2 games and Power playing in 3. So RaRa can play in 2 more games and Power can play in 1 more game and be able to redshirt. Silver can play in 3 more games and redshirt, those 3 WR's haven't touched the field so they have 4 games they can play in. Edmonds, Nash, Sutton, Pounds, Stephens, Brown, Balfour etc can play in 4 more gams. I thought coming into this year that none of Silver, RaRa, Power, Edmonds, Blackwell, Paysour would red shirt and that all would be on the depth chart getting 10-15 snaps each. Will be interesting to see how it shakes out.

Well, I mentioned last week on Tar Heel Illustrated that Longo should be running more slants/screens and Longo ran about 15 of those against Miami. So if that dumbass is reading this right now, DO IT AGAIN.

So special teams play doesn't count as games towards your redshirt?

No, it does. I thought some of these numbers were a little higher, but the page I accessed yesterday only had RaRa in 2 games and Power playing in 3 etc. I thought for sure they had played almost every game on Teams.

Rice is a huge get. Kid is a difference maker. I think its the best recruit Mack has secured since he has been back. It's a good sign that they remain hot.
Yea, I felt good about him for awhile but I thought we lost him the last month with our play. Just shocked that he chose the date of UVA's OL coaches' birthday to commit to UNC. He's a day 1 starter, which means UNC won't have him on the depth chart next year.
