Lincolnton vs Reidsville Regional Finals

How are The wolves in the special teams dept?

Good kicker? I'd imagine you got some of the studs returning kicks.
Enjoyed Friday night because Hendersonville consistently kicked deep. We made them pay on the first kick, retuning it about 95 yards... Almost broke another...we usually see pooch kicks, and squibbers...I will put our returners speed against any team in 2a. And will, when track begins...

Our kicker can kick deep, but routinely squibs and pooches as directed. It's just a big risk to kick to a good returner...can be frustrating for fans, but I get the reasoning. Kicker is a big, athletic guy who sometimes plays lb or te, so he tackles too! Surratt returns punts...sure handed and fearless. Givens punts very well, especially since it's only happened about 12 times. I think we could improve on coverage, but I am confident in our special teams

I believe that Reidsville will score, maybe 30 but the wolves if they play as efficient on offense as they have been playing It wouldn't surprise me if they scored between 45-50

Small defensive line, on the field a lot because offense scores so fast, lots of guys going both ways, football in general much more focused on offense now on all levels. Plus we've played some pretty good offenses lately (Maiden, E Randolph, Hendersonville). Lots of reasons why we've allowed 27 points a game. But I wouldn't call the defense awful. And allowing 27 is fine when you score 50. Just gotta outscore the opponents two more times. And we'll never look back and say "man, that defense sucked!"
I admit I have only seen Lincolnton once in playoffs but think this is a very apt description of their defense. Seemed like all the "feature" offensive players were also playing on the defensive side too. While I would not say they were loafing on that side of the ball it appeared they only got real interested in playing defense whenever they were threatened with a scoring opportunity. On offense these same players looked intense from the get go.

I hope it is a good game for both teams. Know one of the players from Reidsville ;).

Also was treated kindly by everyone down Lincolnton way.

Except on scoreboard.

I've been watching high school football and evaluating talent for a long time and what I've seen on tape for the last 5 weeks it makes me wonder why your posters can speak so confidently How your D is going to shut down an offence that is averaging over 50 points a game ,with the third best strength of schedule in the state (2a)

Honestly L-town has 2 good receivers but neither is on the same level as Trey Turner from NW Guilford..If you throw to your grandma 1000 times in a season, she`ll get 2000 yards!

Actually Lincolnton is averaging only 22 pass attempts per game. It's a pretty balanced offense. Interesting how Lincolnton's Grandma #14 catches enough passes (120) to get over 2000 yds when teams know a lot of passes are coming his way.

I have not seen Trey Turner play but the stats show he finished the season with 1065 receiving yards on 52 catches in 11 games played averaging a little over 20 yds per catch... .very similar to Lincolnton's Grandma #82 stats (also a little over 20 yds per catch, over 1000 receiving yds on 49 catches).

I am looking forward to how well Reidsville defends the Lincolnton passing attack given that they have not played a good passing team this year. I think the game will hinge on how much pressure Reidsville can put on Littlejohn. They will have to generate a lot pressure to have a chance at shutting down the Lincolnton passing game.

Linkman
I agree totally 11 has has flown under the radar, but he's a junior he's been in the situation for the last several years he's a key to the engine of the offense. The great thing is at the offence of line has been playing for phonimonal.

Gotta pull for my Reidsville bro's though I've always liked Lincolnton since we played them in the 2005 sc. Wish I lived closer or I'd go to this game.

Wizard of the East, appreciate the words. I know you have connections to that area. I remember you telling me about getting ready to leave for military service, around Christmas Eve, in 1969, I'm thinking, and your Father in your uniform saying he would go for you... I struggle to drive a nail but for some reason I remember what people tell me.

The front five they are playing a little above average come, but I agree its average as a whole
There play has flown under the radar also

Lincolnton will be the best passing team Reidsville has faced, so the key will be how well our defensive front plays. We also have too establish our run game.

Establishing a run game shouldn't be a problem against Lincolnton's " wet paper bag" defense as you termed it. Based on your comments do you consider Lincolnton's defense the worst you will have faced in the playoffs? How do they compare in your opinion to Mt Htg and North Rowan's defense?

Reidsville defensive front has been the unspoken heart of this team all year first 8 can all play...if we have to go to a 3 man line to add an extra safety we may be in trouble but we should get pressure without blitzing...have to rotate and give the starters a breather

North Rowans D is the real deal. The DeBose kid is for real. Reminded me of y'alls player whos at State.

See ....this is my kind of thread.....compare and analysis from the fans....some with great memories of their playing days others with players on the field.. But I noticed on film... You guys load the box..which will cause us problems...I would think if we can spread y'all out and limit that in coverage it will help in our favor...

The offensive line has been good at creating enough of a gap to run through, and their play doesn't stand out much good or bad in the passing game because for the most part the QB doesn't hold on to the ball very long. Early in the season teams were getting a lot of pressure on Cordel but it seems to have gotten much better as the year has gone. South Point in week 2 was all over him all night. But like zuke said the play calling can have a lot to do with that.

I've been listening to a lot of posters, One of the things I was thinking about is how the SD 7 is one of the premier conferences in the state. I believe will be able to see the different skill level in our conferences, (Friday)
We had five teams ranked in the top 15 in all of 2A at the beginning of the year. Four was in the top 15 at the end of the year.
I have watch Reidsville play for the last five weeks, they have a good team but play in a very bad conference. If I'm honest I believe there a better version maybe an older version of Newton Conover in our conference . Of course this is only my opinion, I Believe wolves win by three scores just by strength of schedule
After Friday we can come back and look at the posts and check them and see who was right it was wrong
It should be a fun game to watch

I was going to take it there about the SD7! I truly don't believe these Rams can beat us, we are 3 tds better and it will show Friday night. Yes these Rams remind me as well of Newton Conover...say no more about that comparison. One comparison that gets me laughing is this Rams and Bama D talk... I keep running across, it's truly funny since the Rams conference is so weak. Call me crazy but I don't believe this Rams team could finish 2nd in the SD7 this season... Wolves, WC, EL are better teams than the Rams. I know I'm going to take a lot of heat for this one but..those from the SD7 and down our way know I'm on point.... but I will say this anything could happen Friday night...& if the Rams win?! I will give them mad respect...but I really don't see it.

You guys do realize 6 of your regular season opponents had a combined record of 15-52 and you allowed 92 pts. You had 2 1-10 teams, a 2-9 and 2 3-8.

We had 2 0-11, 1 1-10, a couple of 2-9/3/8 18-72 giving up 31.

As far as .500 or above you guys gave up 221 vs 57.

We are way more alike than different. To think that his will be a blowout either way is a slap in the face to both programs.

No disrespect to either program...but them wolves can show you..better then I can tell you! Like I said if I'm wrong I will give respect where is due and will not have a problem doing so.
Best of luck Friday night.

Just so you guys don't think all the Wolves faithful thinks we'll blow Reidsville out, I'll give my prediction of Lincolnton 35-28. But Reidsville will be the best team we've played all year and if we lose 3 fumbles in the first half this week we'll be down 3 TDs instead of tied. Gotta be focused and ready to play from the start. And if Reidsville was in our conference they would finish second at worst. Comparing them to a Newton team that didn't even make the playoffs is silly and disrespectful. That would be like them comparing us to Graham.

When comparing the Rams to Newton I was agreeing with another poster in the comparison to Newton of old.
I would never disrespect the Reidsville program as whole...as for me saying L-Town by 3 tds if anyone feels disrespected by that I'm sorry! I'm going with what I believe! I do believe the Rams are muched improved since last season, I know the Wolves are muched improved since last season...with that said I feel no ground gained, no ground lost between these two teams. I'm taking the wolves 49-28. Once again if I'm wrong, I will give credit to the Rams.

I don't think Lincolntons defense is better than N. Rowan's but it is better than Madison County but on par with Heritage. The reason I say we need to establish a good running attack is to keep Lincolntons offense off the field, give them the least amount of possessions possible. I would be naive to say we're going to stop them, we just have to contain them. I believe it's going to come down to who plays the better defense and controls the clock since both teams lights up the score board.

Well I sure hope you're right.

It was no disrespect and compared them to Newton
Newton was a team full of athletes for the quarterback that can throw the ball really hard but for some reason no they don't play well Aganist Lincolnton . I watched film for the last five weeks is just an opinion ,but it's my true opinion. It's no disrespect to the old faithful ones but it's just true speaking from the heart from the analysis that was taken. No disrespect just an opinion
People are sleeping on our conference and they will be able to understand after Friday remember it's only an opinion
Is nothing wrong with sharing the truth of what you believe will happen, after all I believe that's what these boards are for.
Reidsville has a great team with good coaches
So if wolves don't come to play they could easily lose this game
I believe the road game helps us this time we are less distracted more focused on the road.
The two hours will help even more when it comes to focusing they'll be ready to play

Lincolnton's offensive line play is adequate in my opinion. The only time I've seen them give up sacks,in the 4 games I've seen them play, was during blitzes. High school lineman have a hard time picking those up much of the time. Even when the blitzes came and Littlejohn was able to get the pass off, the defense paid dearly for the single coverage they employed.
Their receivers do a good job of running their routes and getting open. Littlejohn has a strong arm and he has more than #14 and #82 as targets.
Defensively, I think LHS will have trouble containing RHS. The RHS qb is not Tucker, of West Caldwell, or Farley, of Maiden, but he obviously can run when needed. Tackling will definitely need to be improved against a quality opponent as RHS.
This should be a great game and match up. Good luck to both teams and I hope and pray that there are no significant injuries and that both teams will make memories that will last them their lifetime.

Come on man.... You're telling me you truly deep down believe in your heart that Reidsville who's 14 and 0 scored over 700 pts and allowed less than 100 is the same as a 6 and 5 team who scored 355/285 and finished 3rd from the bottom of your conference. You based this on watching film of Reidsville? You're right everyone has an opinion, but please make sure you let everyone know if you ever go into handicapping games, so we can bet opposite of you.

Feels like we are going up against an old school burlington cummings offense.

I witnessed the Cummins offenses during that period twice - this L-town offense is better than those I saw, in my opinion.

Pealing back the layers banter and fun, we all expect this game to be a figurative fist fight. Do we think we are better - you bet your leftover cranberry sauce (and hot chocolate, Ramking) we do. I don't think this will be a blowout, expect to see a game that is decided in the last 3 minutes, but wouldn't be surprised by a 20 pt Lincolnton victory.

A few keys to the game:

Reidsville cannot have multiple 3-and-outs or it will get away from them.
If Lincolnton gets 4-6 defensive stops, they approach the 20 pt victory.
The turnover battle and conversion into points. This could be the deciding factor.
Field position will play a big role.

Apparently no one realizes that the game time temps will be in the 20s Friday night according to the forecasts.

Tough to play pitch and catch when its that cold.

Another group of delusional posters, this time from Lincolnton, are going to be awfully disappointed Friday night.

Try to get to Reidsville early and eat the BBQ at Short Sugars. Can't lose that one.:)

Just watched the game against East Lincoln they rushed for almost 250yrds think if we can get running going and keep there offense off the field and chew that clock up. Reidsville walks away with the victory
