Largest 1A School?

What was the largest 1A school in the state last year? I always get confused where the line is from 1A to 2A, if it's a fixed number or moves every year, etc., etc. Thanks

Granville Central had an ADM of 734 last year, which was larger than 22 2A schools. Carver was the smallest 2A school with 582, which was smaller than 8 1A schools. They just reclass every 4 years between 1a/2a/3a/4a, but use current numbers each year when they subdivide for football playoffs (1a/1aa).

When the NCHSAA had the last realignment for 2017-2021 they used the 2015 ADM. This was the 5 largest 1A schools then.

NCHSAA may have learned to use the lastest ADM numbers in the next realignment. The 2021 realignment which suppose to be revealed in March 2021 and start August 1 2021 will use the lastest possible ADM numbers of 2020 unlike the 2017-2021 realignment that used 2015 numbers, if they had used 2016 numbers some schools would have been in different classifications then they are now, for example Grandville Central was 646 in 2015 but 721 in 2016 so would have been 2A.
As far as wanting the NCHSAA to go to a 2 year realignment they may be going the other direction, I can't find an article about it they all talk about the 5A classification topic but on the nchsaa.org realignment site it has the 2021-2026 realignment at the top. 5 years instead of 4.

Two year realignment periods are being discussed and I believe by using the later ADM is a test case for it.

I am ready for them to determine how many classifications and then how they will divide the schools into those classes.

My understanding is the start of the process is delayed one year but the new alignment will still be in place as planned for the 2021 school year.

I know they are starting the placement process one year later than normal. With that delay will the next realignment period start in 2021 as was planned or is it pushed back until 2022?

This past May according to NCHSAA commissioner Tucker..
If new bylaws are passed next spring, the board of directors would begin working on a realignment plan that would be distributed no later than March 2021. The new realignment plan would take effect Aug. 1, 2021.
Tucker said..
"What this also does is, it allows us to pull the numbers closer to when the alignment actually becomes effective, so we'll pull numbers in 2020 and it'll be 2021 when we start the new process,"

Thank U, Old M! They are starting the administrative process a year later but the alignment date will remain 2021 football season. As I have thought this is a test run for two year realignments as that is the time line that would need to be utilized.
