Guilford County off-season news

NWG is losing players left and right. They have several kids leaving for East Forsyth and Northern. Lost a couple to Grimsley last year. Everyone knows my opinion on NWG

They are leaving because the coaching is awful.... HC is a former D3 college coach. He fired his OC after yr 1 plus he's a defensive guy and the offensive coaches are now pretty green & clueless. The administration puts about as much effort into Football as they do math club. They don't realize Football is a rising tide at any HS.

The one coach that could really help turn it around I'm hearing has a son who's a QB at NW middle. He'll probably end up at East Forsyth or Grimsley too. Smh

Willert and Brown are two of the best recruiters in the state. They have coaches at camps all over trying to poach kids away

From Winston to Burlington ? That's a big pile of BS. Without naming names, exactly how many athletes have come to Grimsley from either location ?
P.S. I think you have some " Triad ties, " but you're basically, in your own words, a " Charlotte dude. "
P.S.S. Are you related to Mister Honda ?
I agree. I don't know of any players going to Grimsley or Dudley from outside of Guilford County. At least no significant players. Neither Alamance or Forsyth counties are short on options.

That being said, players do go to both Grimsley and Dudley via their academies, but don't discount the academies. Upon graduating from Dudley's academy students leave with one year of college credit as they take their senior year classed at North Caroling A&T State University. Also, I believe they start taking AP classes year one. It isn't a program to discount. I'm not sure about Grimsley's academy. I will say this though, the move to Grimsley started the year Page hired the former Eastern Guilford head coach. From what I heard he ran the talent away work his "hard-nosed coach" approach. Also someone mentioned High Point being out of district, High Point is in Guilford County. Lastly, yes, many players throughout Guilford County go to both schools and have won State titles for them, gone to D1 institutions, and even made it to the NFL. Most kids, and parents, will look at that and see the appeal.

There is a huge difference between the schools…..Grimsley has a certain class that no other school offers in the county which allows easy access….northwest doesn’t offer such class
NWG problem isn't not having an academy. They have plenty of talent, but they don't seem to put in that extra work to develop it. I have also heard the parents are a headache.

I remember seeing Payton Page (Clemson) and a few other Dudley players on campus at A&T a few years back, to your point. Smith also has an Academy too, which likely helps in basketball. Forgetting the others off the top of my head in Guilford County. People don’t understand how common it is for public schools in all of the larger NC cities to have a IB, New Tech, or general Magnet program attached to the school. Coaches are always gonna utilize it and have for the good part of the last 20 years

Yep. Can't blame the coaches for using what is available to them. Some players families just move to an apartment in the area. People will do A LOT to get into a specific area. I personally don't have a problem with it, even though it hurt my kids home school teams. The QB at Grimsley (#1 or #2 recruit in the country depending on the site) is supposed to be at his school. He lives in the neighborhood next to ours. A kid on Smith's 4A title is supposed to be at the school as well. It is what it is.

Parents are def a headache but to say plenty of talent is a lie….walk those hallways

The type of kid you need for football is different than bball
I hear people say that all the time and I fully disagree, especially at a position like CB, safety, TE, or WR. Most high school basketball players have a better chance playing football. A 6'0" or 6'1" WR or CB is D1 if they want it.

Yeah Faizon went to Southeast Middle so I figured he was from out that way. And with Smith, Jyi Dawkins went to Southern Guilford and transferred over to Smith this year after I believe a coaching shift.

Because Southern Guilford also lost Josiah Hill who is now at HP Central & avg 21 this season. And Southern Guilford went from being the best team in the county last year and beating Smith handily to losing their talent to transferring & grads, & now they’re awful just that fast. I’m 50-50 on it I guess just in the sense that if you feel like you have otherworldly talent, you wanna be surrounded by the best resources in all facets so I get it. It also sucks because for the foreseeable future, it’s like 2/3 schools max per large county that are GENUINELY contenders:

Greensboro: Grimsley & Dudley

Raleigh: Rolesville & Cardinal

Durham: Southern

Winston: East Forsyth & Tabor (tbd for this year)

Charlotte: Creek, WC, Hough

Fayetteville: 71st

Yes that hurts….but lining up against another human who wants to physically whip
Your ass is different than falling on a hard surface
Lining up as a DB or WR is not like playing O-Line. There are kids playing basketball that will never get a college look, but if they played football they might, at the very least, get a look from a recruiter. Probably not D1, but in this day and age any school looking at a high school kid is a big deal. Don't underestimate the physicality of basketball.

If your playing a sport just to get college looks and not for the love of the game you will ALWAYS end up not happy and if you don’t truly love the game you will not make it at next level

Playing "just for a scholarship" and playing to your strengths are two different things.
