CVAC 2024 - Week 6 🎉🎉

OC, BTW, we're expecting wind gusts of 70-80 MPH, tomorrow. That's plenty enough to whisk an old man's assets over the rainbow. They'd take one look at me and call the police, course I suppose we all got to be somewhere.:D
Toto, GMAB.

Looks like NC and L-town have moved to Monday.

Hope everyone is safe and hasn't had too much damage

I just passed Betsy Ross Park in Lincolnton. The creek that runs by it is overflowed
You made me laugh out loud. It is Betty G Ross not to be confused with the lady (and probably is) who sewed the flag. That South Fork runs behind the visitor side of Lincolnton and down to the park. I have seen flooding up on the practice field which is also used for parking during game nights.

I believe power may be an issue. Large portion of the city is without power.
I believe so because the gas station below there is packed with people trying to get gas must be one of the only ones with power. Looks nice outside so hauling a car to the speedway I'm going to get everything ready for tomorrow night racing and crashing

AMD, glad you made it back with the demolition car. I just got back from my daily run and the stadium field, here, looked good. I could see where the water had ran off and pooled around the track, but it didn't see any lights on in the buildings around there so they may not have power. Think the city was focusing on restoring power to homes and businesses, first. The power in this neighborhood came back on this afternoon. Considering the number of limbs and downed trees around here, I don't know how they got it back on so fast. I was guessing it would be off until early next week. Thanks City of Lincolnton.

By the way, us Lincolnton guys haven't had much to boast about in football over these last several years, so if you don't mind and for the sake of a little trivia, you mentioned going by Betty G. Ross Park. She was the Director of Parks and Recreation, here. She was tall and slim and very athletic. She was a good person but she could be tough, too, so you would have understood her.
Don't know what kind of tournaments or playoffs, high schools had in the early 1940's, but she played basketball on a Lincolnton team that won some kind of state title. As a kid I would go to the old Rec. Center, her office was there, and I knew her personally; and remember none of the guys could beat her in ping pong. She was also a good marble player.

Her husband was Lincolnton's Post Master. He was appointed by President Kennedy. Her brother, like her, was a good Wolf. He served as chief of staff of the Air Force, under President Reagan. Always wondered if they might have had some lively discussions about politics at Thanksgiving and Christmas... Betty would have died around 2013 (I think) in her late 80's. Here is a link about her brother if you get a chance to look at it. The Gabriel family grew up around East Main St., in the Boger City area. Their home was near where the BBQ King is now.

Anyone hearing anything about cancellations for Monday for Lincolnton/NC and Maiden/WL? Obviously more important things than football but just curious

East Burke and Bandys is off
West Caldwell and Bunker Hill is off

Yep….tentatively Tuesday now.

What a mess!

Big games coming Friday too. 👀

Not sure when the Wolves will play the Red Devils as I saw on social media that LHS is without power. That also probably means Mr. Lincolnton is also without power as he is very close to the school. Has anyone checked up on him?

I'm hearing superintendents are meeting to see if last week games can be moved to November 8th pushing the playoffs back a week. Kind of like happens on the Eastern side when they had that big hurricane

Thanks for asking, guys, I'm good, and hope you are, too...Our stadium is in good shape, just don't know about the power.
LHSfaninVA, mentioned having seen flooding come onto the practice field. This time the water came up to the property beside of it. Haven't seen any lights on around the stadium, but last night, people were playing tennis on the high school courts. Not sure if it's on the same grid as the school or the stadium (which is on the other side of the hill, from the high school) and may be on a different grid, too. Residential power on this side of town has been on since Friday, and I'm thinking it's probably been restored for all of Lincolnton.
The city's electric Dept. jumped on it quick and I'm glad they did (AlwaysAWolf, and me, have a friend who is superintendent of that Dept. Way to go buddy. Thanks for all the help).
I really feel bad for the people in these harder hit areas such as Burke, and the counties west of there. Hopes and prayers are with you.
I've been trying to find out about games early this week. We probably all could use a football fix, but it looks like a lot of teams are going on to regularly scheduled games this coming Friday. If I see anything I'll post it.

AMD, mentioned that I got to go to the Hickory Speedway, Saturday night to watch him participate in the races/crashing events. It looked like there was a huge crowd. The entire side of the hill where the bleachers are was covered with people, and all of them were having a good time, which was nice to see considering the weather earlier in the week.
I would just like to say something in all earnestness: I think Maiden should take much pride in it's son, AMD. He did so good that I know you would have been proud of him. He only got into two fist-fights, and only got disqualified from one event, a single time, for taking off his crash helmet and swinging it at another driver, but in fairness I think the other driver was the aggressor (well, maybe half and half).

Just joking AMD... I got to to say, though, he can really drive a car-He is very good. I was worried he was going to get his neck broke in the crashing episode. Those cars were hitting each other hard...AMD, when coach Brown told you "There's nothing like Maiden football to prepare you for the hard knocks of life'" I don't think this is what he meant, course it would take somebody from The little blue dot to be tough enough to endure something like that. :)

That throws me back to a pep speech that Coach Brown gave us. You said football is the greatest sport in the world it's the only place that you can go out in front of a crowd look at the man across from you and beat the living hell out of him and not getting any trouble. You do that out in the real world you go to jail, but on the football field the more you beat the hell out of that guy the more the crowd screams and cheers for you said it's the greatest feeling in the world. Now fast forward I bet Coach Brown would have never thought in his wildest dreams that I would have found a way to keep beating the hell out of people in front of me while also using a deadly weapon and having an even bigger crowd screaming and cheering it on. 🤣🤣

AMD, even though you do things legally, maybe you shouldn't call it a deadly weapon, sounds too harsh, call it a tool of the trade.
And yes, I think Coach Brown would say you did good. He might have said something like "That's what I call improvisation".

Had a cousin that called his "The bare necessities." One of the necessities was a red ski mask. He said it helped him "dress for success." He was a real prize, I'm talking blue ribbon...
Like you do, he should have found a lawful way to channel his aggression. His work was just to time consuming, if you get my drift.
