Why would ADM for a school be different between DPI and NCHSAA? Calculated at different times?

I think dpi is before the state adds or subtracts for EC and alternative schools.

This off of Highschool OT:

"The NCHSAA will receive average daily membership numbers (ADMs) from the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. Once these numbers are received, the NCHSAA will make some adjustments to account for early colleges, academies and other special circumstances, then the numbers will be released to the public on the NCHSAA website. Sometimes there are small corrections that must be made after the numbers are released. This typically happens in the last couple weeks of the regular season."

“Special circumstances”. NCHSAA code for “we make it up as we go along, and as it suits us”.

All four of the Stanly County schools saw their ADMs drop as reported to DPI. Their NCHSAA numbers increased because for the first time the community college and alternative school students were allowed to play at their home schools. Also, Albemarle has a new early college program on campus this year. All 42 of those students (ten are non AHS district students) play sports at AHS so those were added to the NCHSAA ADM. TO CLARIFY (EDIT): The Albemarle High School students that live in the district but attend the early college on campus (30 of them) are not counted in the DPI numbers. They are in a separate breakdown.

Very interesting. Thanks for the info fellas. Here's the breakdown for SMC:

Cherokee - 387(nchsaa) / (can't find DPI #)
Hayesville - 395 (nchsaa) / 395 (DPI)
Rosman - 299 (nchsaa) / 284 (DPI)
Andrews - 207 (nchsaa) / 207 (DPI)
Robbinsville - 375 (nchsaa) / 375 (DPI)
Swain - 553 (nchsaa) / 551 (DPI)
Murphy - 466 (nchsaa) / 478 (DPI)

I am curious to why the numbers are less for the NCHSAA than DPI. I do know in the past a school would have students attend the school and count in their numbers but played sports at their home school.

Rosman has a 15 increase. Murphy a 12 decrease.

Cherokee is a federal school and does not fall under the state so DPI does not get their numbers. Same with Lejuene. Same with some middle and elementary schools that are federal schools.

That makes sense. Thanks

I think Murphy has the only special education in the county and some or all of those kids are subtracted.

But if the kids are enrolled at Murphy, then they should count for Murphy. Just like if a Murphy kid gets moved to the alternative school, they don't count against Murphy they count towards the alternative school.

If they're enrolled at Murphy and are allowed to play sports then yes they should be counted.

Not necessarily. There are programs where non district students would not count.
