Phil Padgett LEGEND!

So I heard everyone tell me that changing coaches can be a brutal process, but not my Stallions! I understand every year is not your year, but every other year my Stallions always had a chance.

Phil Padgett was a genius in his own little way. Sure he was a Jacksonville High School graduate, but that sure gave him insight on where the football talent in the county was at. Padgett in his early years was really just having fun. He knew he had tons of talent from 2-3 neighborhoods, and winning the old CPC was a given. Even old Bob Eason came aboard around early to mid 90s, and the wins continued and so did doubt about Padgett ever winning a state crown although being ranked #1 several times. In the late 90s several of his first players started having kids that were old enough to play for Padgett. Winning conference was nice, but this group wanted state crowns and every year since 1999 I knew my Stallions had a realistic chance of winning it all every other year.

Why is coach Padgett a legend? Because truth be told he played with the same families since 1988. He talked about kids being different today than years back. He is right they are different because now the player is a military kid from Texas.

Hats off to Coach Padgett. Thanks for the good times.

Crest and Shelby People

Hey, make sure you get your butts to the voting for Game of the Week for Crest/Shelby game.
Voting ends Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. Currently, we are behind the Independence/Butler game by several thousand votes. The more voters the easier it is to make up the ground. You can vote 1,000 times per day, or you can just clean your cache after voting 1,000 times and then vote again. I'd like to see these Cleveland County players get this recognition. Don't be discouraged from voting if our game is way behind. There have been huge vote swings already, and it's not hard to catch up, especially if you get a dedicated group of voters voting at the same time. Also, this is the direct link to fast voting for the Shelby/Crest game. To see the number of votes for the other game, click on the "Next" button, then the "Previous" button to come back to our game.

#8 SW Edgecombe 9-1 vs Beddingfield 6-4

Just by looking at the records, one would think that this EPC tilt should go the way of SWE, but Bfield comes into this game in first place in the conference because they did what SWE couldn't do....beat Washington. Because of that loss, SWE comes in sitting in third place, but can secure a conference championship if they can pull out the win tonight. Don't let Bfield's record fool you...they essentially played a 3A Big East non conference schedule for four games, and only lost by 2 vs the #7 2A team Greene Central, whose defense is immovable. So that 4 in the loss column is deceptive, especially since all of the games were touchdown close. By contrast, SWE's non conference record was meh. It would have been awesome last year. This year's opponents all together were 76-64 last season. This year, all opponents thru ten games, they are 42-57. Advantage Bfield. Bfields defense is the best in the league, leading in ppg. Had it not been for the Washington debacle, SWE would be leading. Advantage Bfield. Offensively, I think this is where SWE will win the game, for as good as Bfield's defense is, their offense is unspectacular. In 6 out of 10 games, they have score 20 or fewer points, while SWE has score 33 or more in 7 of 10 contests. Because of this, I give SWE the edge in the game because if we can get at least 21, the odds of Bfield being able to keep up score wise deminish. It should be an awesome game with much to play for. Bfield has drawn the number three seed in the event of a three way tie, which will happen if they lose and Washington wins their game. A win erases all of that a secures the one. SWE drew the second seed, but will fall to third with a loss. So basically, the loser is the third conference seed. A home playoff game is highly unlikely. I'm expecting a lot of drama in this one and I can't wait to report it.
