Purnell Swett Football

I do not know the 1st year head coach, only what I have heard. But since I like to judge for myself, I will not criticize him. But as a school, a program and as a team, improvement is a MUST. To help with that improvement, may I suggest a few things:

A. Get your feeder schools on a 4A playing schedule and stop playing 2A feeder schools....once they get to hs the level of competition is something they are not used to.

B. Get the school, booster club or even local community leaders to provide a van for the kids so they can have a ride home after practice. I know for a fact most of the Maxton and Prospect parents are hesitant to drive to Pembroke every evening to pick their son up from practice. This has worked in the past.

C. Go into the Prospect and Maxton communities and RECRUIT! Sell these kids on playing football. Former Ram coach Russell Stone was GREAT in this department. ..he went out and brought the athletes into the program. Makes little sense for your roster to be 90% Pembroke kids, and you have a whole pool of talent lying 5-10 miles east of you doing nothing.

D. Establish a repoire with the Pembroke State football staff and develop some type of football technique camp. Don't wait for Vonte Leach to give his annual football camp and hope some of your players attend.

E. And finally, think about this....out of the Maxton, Prospect and Pembroke communities, Maxton was known for winning state championships. What ever happened to those coaches? Their staff? Their former players? Why not bring some of that wealth of experience on board at PS? Winning is an attitude, so if you don't like winning, just ignore item #E.
So, powers that be at Purnell Swett, go back and consider some of these things.

Wildcats lose to CSOD

Congratulations to CSOD. Very well coached team and had a great Defensive game plan. Having said that we beat ourselves. In the red zone 4 times, once on the one, and once inside the ten. No points !! Our defense played great keeping them scoreless till the 6 min mark of 3rd. Our weak spot of the game was our pass coverage and that was the difference in game. I am proud of my Wildcats and all the seniors. No disrespect but Robbinsville or Murphy will beat this team with ease. Just stating the facts

CSD Coach statement on National Anthem

Coach T.J. Albert just called me to explain what happened. They are upset at what has been posted on here.

CSD plays at North Meck and North Meck's season ended in the first round. The press box was cleaned out of their stuff. The national anthem was on a cd that was removed from the press box.

Yes, CSD did play pre-game music because it was their cd. Nobody realized the cd with the national anthem was gone until the time to play it. The captains were called to the field by the refs and the game was started.

Coach Albert wanted everybody to know it was just a simple misunderstanding and they have their own CD now with the anthem. There will be a very Patriotic atmosphere at this week's game due to what was posted on here.

Just wanted to make things clear!!!

I'm from a military family and my father is a veteran. Thanks to all of our military!!

Go Scots and Scotswin

I came over at halftime asking many folks where ya'll guys were with no luck. I hated that we didn't get a chance to talk a little football. Good part is that I met so many extremely nice folks from Scotland once again at the game. Maybe we can get together for a game next year. I had many North folks how awesome the atmosphere was and they saw it was true. White absolutely the real deal. Look forward to following his career at Scotland and beyond.

2015 MAC recap

Well now that we are all out of the playoffs, I think we can go ahead and say for certain that we all underachieved greatly. When teams down east make fun of mountain football, its seasons like this that they point to.

McDowell: Kudos to them for making the playoffs, but that is the extent of their accomplishments this year. 0 playoff wins this year.

TC Roberson: Roberson was terrible, but in their defense they were competitive with Erwin and Asheville, although this year that doesn't say much. I thought the coaches son Deal would be a good qb but I heard a rumor he could be leaving? That could be bad. They gave 71st a good game in the playoffs but its still hard to see a team with that much size be 3-9. 0 playoff wins in 2015

Erwin: Some peoples pick to win the MAC. Returned a qb who had a great sophomore year. Many of us thought this was a year with Austin coming back and the addition of a tougher schedule, they would be prepared to make a run in the playoffs. The schedule did them no favors in the end and they came in second in the MAC and easily could have finished the year 6-6. Mike Sexton I believe has been at Erwin for 8 years and have 6 playoff wins. That's absolutely shocking. 0 playoff wins in 2015.

Asheville: The mountains unanimous number 1 preseason team for the MAC and for WNC. Returned a major D1 tackle and a tailback who finished his career with 4,000 rushing yards. This team just never had the drive all year. It is a shame too because to this day I still believe they had the most talent in the mountains. A lazy team who wanted to be tough after the whistle blew or after the game and will go down as the most underachieving team Danny Wilkins has coached. No excuse for a team with that much talent to not blow out most of their opponents on their schedule. Should have lost to Carver, should have lost even worse to Reynolds, very easily could have lost to a 3-9 Roberson team and displayed one of the worst perfomances in Asheville history against Erwin at home on senior night. On the road in the first round for the 3rd time in the last 15 years. 0 playoff wins in 2015.

AC Reynolds: I cant believe I am writing this one because after they beat the hell out of us, people were talking about this team as a state champion contender (and after that I believed they were). Started the season with a good win by 3 over a good West Forsyth team and showed a little chink in the armor in week 4 by giving up 57 points to Shelby. Some of us Asheville fans said the mountains sucked this year after they beat us and Erwin and I understand how that could have sounded like sour grapes, but in the end I think it ended up being true. Reynolds absolutely destroyed everybody in the regular season after the first game with the exception of Shelby, but in my eyes there was something wrong with Dowdle getting every touchdown. It was almost comical to see Reynolds winning 56-7 every week and Dowdle having 6 touchdowns every game. He is a terrific player, one of the best to ever come out of the mountains of NC, but I really think their reliance on him was ultimately to their detriment. All year long the recipe was to just stop rico, when ideally you would want multiple guys to count on in the event Dowdle did eventually get contained. I thought Logan would have been a much bigger part of their offense, but all year it was "Dowdle left, Dowdle right, Dowdle up the middle." For Reynolds to average 50 points a game and Logan to finish the season the season with about 1,100 rushing yards, tells you all you need to know. A very very disappointing ending to the 2015 season being held to 21 points at home after scoring 73 the week prior. I thought for sure I would be going to Crest next Friday for an epic game, but weddington finally did what nobody else could do, holding dowdle to a shocking 6 first half rushing yards. Truth be told, WEddington probably should have won last night by 14+ given the fact they had 4 turnovers and 2 missed field goals. That game vs Weddington last night was symbolic of MAC football this year....a big disappointment.1 playoff win in 2015 for Reynolds while ranked number 3 in the AP poll.

Lets hope we can do a little better in 2016 because as a whole we all greatly underachieved to put it nicely.

*Also, just a side note since there were so many conversations this season comparing Dowdle to past great skill players from the mountain. Crezdon Butler finished his high school career with 17 playoff wins as a starter for Asheville High. I believe Rico dowdle had 1.

Hertford Co vs Northeastern

Hertford Co vs Northeastern is a rematch from the October 30th slugfest, which NE won 37-34. It's no secret I'm backing NE, but Hertford County is DANGEROUS. Junior WR Jaquqrii Roberson #25, is one of the best receivers I've seen in high school in quite some time, and I don't give that praise lightly. He torched NE for 156 yards and 2 tds last go around, and has 1315 yards for the season. I notice they like to run him off of picks and throw quick screens before they load up the deep bomb on you. The original db from NE did a great job checking him on the line in the 1st half. But of course the coaches and sidelines started complaining of holding so the yellow flags made them ease up, and he torched him. Hertford Co qb has some wheels too! This go around I hope NE puts them away early...I can't stand another nailbiter. Sometimes I love the NE "all out, get in your face, man to man, no safety help" defense....but sometimes it makes me nervous. It will be a great game to see!

South Columbus @ Fairmont

South Columbus Stallions have to be feeling good after two consecutive weeks of close wins.... Fairmont seems to be playing lights out lately.... Will be an interesting one if SC can get to the QB....

Fairmont by two TDs

On another note how in the world did Whiteville beat Fairmont like they did ?? Seriously and no don't say the refs
