Who Wins - Ashbrook@Huss and Lake Norman Charter @ North Gaston

Anyone want to chime in on who wins these games Friday night?

Ashbrook @ Hunter Huss
On paper and on the field, the Green Wave should win with more talent available to them than Huss. Also, Ashbrook doesn't want to be embarrassed again as they were last week, but their record against poorer competition favors Huss. Plus, it's the bell game. Do the Huskies have more heart than the Green Wave? However, I admit to a bit of Schadenfreude when it comes to Ashbrook and would love for them to lose to the Huskies. What the heck - I can almost guarantee that whichever one I pick to win will lose - Ashbrook by 7.

Lake Norman Charter @ North Gaston
Most of the computer models say North Gaston. Factors favoring the Wildcats - if they play a near perfect game, they can chew up some serious yards on the ground and put points on the board. The Knights offense is not robust enough to overcome that.

With a #1 seed in the 2A division on the line, LNC has more to gain than NG has to lose. If they can catch the Wildcats on an off-night, their defense may be enough to keep them in the game. Game is a toss-up, but I think the Knights pull this one off by 3.

Four County Week 12

As we enter the final week of the Four County Conference, my record improved to 40-8.

Game of the Week
Wallace-Rose Hill @ Clinton- Of course this is the game of the week with the conference title on the line. Both teams are head and shoulders above everyone else in the conference and most teams in their respective division. This should be a close one. It is really hard to pick against Clinton but I saw a Wallace team that was extremely athletic and flies around to the ball on defense. That could give the Darkhorses run game fits. I expect some points scored on both sides and that may favor the Dogs. Wallace-Rose Hill 36- Clinton 35

West Bladen @ East Bladen- East has really owned this rivalry over the past 14 years only losing the first game in this series. Ethan Hines is still questionable for Friday and his absences really hurt the EB offense last Friday. East will have to score some points to win this one. I think West comes in confident and with the offensive fire power they have, they could give the Eagles a game. The difference to me is on the defensive side. I think East's D is much better than West's and that is where the game will be won. East Bladen 28- West Bladen 13

Union @ Midway- Union put of a strong fight against East Friday night and probably should have won. Unfortunately, Chris Nash went down with an injury and I'm unsure of his availability this week. Midway comes in hot offensively which has been their Achilles heal. Even with a healthy Nash, I would have picked Midway to win. Without Nash, this one won't be in doubt. Midway 34- Union 6

Trask @ Pender- Trask will have too much offense for the Patriots. Trask 42- Pender 21

It's been fun doing these breakdowns and I will continue them throughout the playoffs. Good Luck to everyone that makes the dance. Hopefully, we can get a couple of state championships this year.

Any Playoff projections?

someone normally posts their projections and seeding. Haven't seen one yet this year. I'm hearing Clinton as 2AA is becoming more and more like a potential reality, which may would help us avoid Shelby IF we made it the the state championship again but put us against a potential buzzsaw in East Lincoln. Shelby guys, you hearing anything about u moving to 2AA??

Stuart Cramer @ South Point

Big game right here. What a brutal conference game. There won't be a bigger game in the State this week. How can there be? The old South Point is playing the new South Point. The old South Point fans will be staring across the field at what they will look like in about five years or so. Those wildebeest women of the old South Point , will be trying to figure out where they can get purple accessory's for there new hooker outfits.

The old South Point men, will be pondering whether there are purple shutters, and if so, how can we attach them to our single-wide's.

Coondog will have to be talked down of the scoreboard, he'll be up there screaming for seadog to tell him where it all went wrong, but it will be to no avail, because seadog will be over at the Catholic game (Red Pain). Coonie will jump, but a gust of wind, off a fart from the 550 pound white girl with cornrow's, who sits in the visitors stands will cause coonie to land on the helmet breaking it into pieces. This will incite a riot, as nappy necks, try to make off with any piece they can grab, in order to have a keepsake from the past.

Not to mention it's a Big South Conference game........................... *Yawn*

Richmond game balls vs pinecrest

Great TEAM effort win for the Raiders over pinecrest......Game ball #1 goes to #12 the qb....Had his best game of the year so far......The kid is a leader.......Keep carrying out those fakes......Game ball #2 goes to #23 the rb , great second and third effort...Kept a lot of drives alive with his determination.....Game ball #3 to #34, the kid does it week in and week out, delivers some vicious blows......Along with getting the D in the right positions up front.....Game ball #4 to #48, overall just seemed to show up at the ball and make some key tackles when the Raiders needed them....Honorable mention goes to #88...wow, the kid made some big time plays when needed....Also , the center, I know he made one bad snap , but he made up for it with his blocking up front all night, and perfect snaps on extra points...not the biggest kid , but makes up for it with his toughness and smarts.......Cant wait until Thursday and Friday night......Two great programs, that will lay it all on the line.....Good luck to both teams ...May the TRADITION CONTINUE.....Hopefully no injuries to either team......NO LOSERS IN THIS GAME ......nuff said....

2A Conference Breakdown with 2 Weeks Left

Mountain Valley: If Ashe can beat Starmount, they will win the 2A division and be seeded in the tier of 1 seeds, if Ashe loses to Starmount, then the door would be open for Wilkes Central to jump to the 1 seed if they run the table, which includes a trip to East Wilkes

Western Highlands: Hendersonville controls their own destiny to be the seeded in the tier of 1 seeds, but Mountain Heritage beating Mitchell last week changed the whole complexion of things here, giving MH a chance to be the outright 1 in the league overall, and of course in the 2A division, but they still need Polk to beat Hendersonville for that to happen, and if that happens, then Hendersonville would drop from the tier of 1 seeds to a Wild Card, assuming Polk also beats Owen this week

WNC Athletic: Franklin has already clinched the 2A division, only question is whether or not they will finish undefeated in conference, Smoky Mountain has already clinched a playoff berth, but will be a wild card (and not a 2 or 3 seed) unless they beat both Pisgah and North Henderson

South Mountain: Shelby & Crest will play for the outright conference title, but regardless of what happens that night, the Golden Lions are looking good for the 1 seed from the 2A division....for them to drop, they would have to lose to Draughn and Crest AND have East Burke run the table, beating Chase and Kings Mountain, East Burke has essentially clinched a wild card berth though, as will the winner of the RS Central/East Rutherford game, the loser of the RSC/ER game can still get in if they win their other remaining game, Draughn is currently one of my last 5 in, they could become a lock with an upset of Shelby this week but I don't think anybody is going to bet the farm on that one

Big South: Strange situation as described by Sasha98 i believe it was a couple of weeks ago on a different thread, and I could be wrong, but I think it has taken an even crazier turn: While Huss is in a position to lose the rest of their games and still be considered the winner of the 2A division, they will only have a 30% winning percentage in their overall record, unless they beat either Forestview or Ashbrook, if Huss wins one of those, then they will be in the tier of 1 seeds, but the way I read the NCHSAA handbook for this year's football playoff qualifiers, it appears that if Huss finishes 3-8, they will not be taken as a 1 seed or even as a wild card, and will be left out of the playoffs, Cramer should get a wild card berth even if they don't win another game, it's not looking good for LKN Charter either, they would need to beat both Ashbrook and North Gaston to get in the playoff discussion, and by the way, IF that happened, they would be a 1 seed, not a wild card, unless Cramer also rose up at the end with a big upset win or two

Western Piedmont: The 1 spot will come down to the Carver/West Stokes game this Friday, and the loser would be 2, North Surry appears to be in the best spot for the 3, which they would clinch by running the table, which appears very possible with South Stokes and Forbush left, Forbush needs to win at least one of their remaining games to get in the playoff mix, Surry Central needs to win both, going to be impossible for all three of these to make it because they play each other, very possible that no wild cards come out of this league, unless it's North Surry, but if they take care of business they would be a 3, not a wild card

Southern District 7: The East Lincoln/Maiden game this Friday is for first place, and the Lincolnton/Maiden game next week can still play a role in it, but these three teams are the ones vying for the 1/2/3 spots, it's hard to pick against East Lincoln, since they haven't lost a game in forever, but note that Maiden would drop from being tied for first right now to the 3 if they lose both of these games, West Caldwell is also going to be a playoff team, and could jump to a seeded spot and not a wild card, only if they run the table, which includes Lincolnton, Newton-Conover needs two wins to lock themselves in (though it's mathematically possible with just 1), and their schedule is favorable to that, playing the two teams at the bottom over the next two weeks, West Lincoln is in the same boat, I like their chances to beat Bandys this week but it'll be a different story next week East Lincoln...my projections right now have WL as one of the last five in if they finish 5-6, 2-5, but a couple of surprise winners in other conferences could bump them out, as 2-5 (only a .286 win%) would lose tiebreaker to a team that's 5-6, 2-3 in conference or 5-6, 2-4 i conference

Rocky River: The Monroe/Forest Hills game will decide the 1/2 seeds, the 3 will be decided by the Parkwood/Mt. Pleasant game, CATA has to either Forest Hills or Parkwood to get in the discussion or both to be locked in (not many betting on that happening), West Stanly has to beat Monroe this week to stay alive, then beat Mount Pleasant next week to get in, which could actually make them the 3 if that happened, but not many folks are going to bet on that happening

Central Carolina: Your guess is as good as mine on how it's going to shake out, very good chance for a three way tie for either 1st or 2nd, maybe 3rd...Salisbury and West Davidson are for all intents and purposes locked out of playoff contention, they play each other this week but both can play spoiler to others' hopes next week: The Thomasville/North Rowan game would clinch a 1 seed for North Rowan if they can win it, as they've already beaten Lexington, but if Thomasville beats NR, they would also have to beat Lexington to avoid a three way tie, unless Lexington slips against East Davidson, who will be most likely be a wild card even losing to Lexington, as long as they beat West Davidson (see above)

The Final Weekly Western 1A Report for 2015!

The Final Weekly Western Report for this season finds Four 1A teams remaining unbeaten(East Surry,East Wilkes,Pine Lake Prep & West Montgomery) as we head into the final week of the Regular Season...All 4 of those remaining unbeatens, will be challenged in their season finale, so let's take one final look at the 6 Western 1A Conferences:

YVC-9
---------
Unbeaten West Montgomery(10-0 & 7-0) registered their 3rd shutout of the season, beating(53-0) South Davidson(0-10 & 0-7) in Mt. Gilead...The win elevates the Warriors into a tie with East Montgomery(9-1 & 7-0) who was Idle last week...Meanwhile, North Stanly(7-3 & 5-2) playing without Antonio Williams, beat(30-14) South Stanly(3-7 & 3-4) to claim the outright Stanly County Championship, and seal a 3rd place finish in the YVC...In Monroe, the Union Academy Cardinals(3-7 & 3-4) beat Albemarle(2-8 & 2-5) for the first time(40-13), sending the Bulldogs to their 4th consecutive YVC defeat...In other YVC action last friday, North Moore(6-4 & 5-3) finished the season winning 4 of their last 5 games as the Mustangs galloped past(55-22) Chatham Central(0-10 & 0-7) in Bear Creek...

Looking Ahead: For the first time in the history of the YVC, the Little River Feud will take center stage on the final night of the Regular Season as Montgomery County foes East and West meet in Biscoe to determine which end of Montgomery County will hoist the 2015 YVC Trophy?....In Monroe, North Stanly will travel to face a Union Academy team that has won their last 2 YVC games.... Meanwhile Albemarle will close out perhaps their most disappointing season since moving down to the 1A classification in 1997 when they entertain South Stanly in the season finale...In Denton this friday, winless YVC foes South Davidson and Chatham Central will meet with the winner having the opportunity to end the season on a positive note...North Moore will be Idle this week, and well rested for the playoffs to come...,

SMC-7
----------
In Bryson City last friday, the Swain County Maroon Devils(7-3 & 5-0) got a big night from Sophomores Brodie Bowman and Keshawn Beaner as Swain broke a halftime deadlock(13-13) with rival Murphy(7-3 & 3-2) to beat(20-13) the Bulldogs, and remain tied atop the SMC Standings with Robbinsville(7-2 & 5-0)...The Black Knights survived a scare of their own in Cherokee, forcing and recovering a Braves' fumble at the 1yd line late in the 3rd quarter, while leading 13-7...The Black Knights finally subdued(27-7) the young, and talented Braves(3-7 & 0-5) to remain tied with Swain County for the top spot in the SMC...In other SMC action last week, Andrews(5-6 & 2-4) closed-out the Regular Season with their 2nd victory of the season in Hayesville(3-6 & 0-5), sending the Yellowjackets to their 6th consecutive loss, a streak that began when Andrews beat Hayesville, back on Sept 18th in Hayesville....Rosman(6-3 & 3-2) was Idle last week...

Looking Ahead: The SMC Schedule Changes this year could not have been scripted any better as the top 4 spots in the SMC will be determined on the field in the final week of the Regular Season....The Marquee matchup for all the SMC marbles will be determined at Historic Big Oaks Stadium as Swain County makes the trip to Graham County to face the Black Knights...Over at "The Hill" in Murphy, there will be a battle for 3rd place between the Bulldogs and the visiting Tigers from Rosman who will try to beat Murphy for the first time in 15 years....Down the road a piece in Clay County, Hayesville and Visiting Cherokee will play with the winner hoping to gain some momentum for the playoffs, while Andrews will be getting some much needed rest this week...

NWC-7
-----------
In Danbury last friday, East Surry(10- & 5-0) clinched at least a tie for the NWC Crown as the Cardinals recorded their 2nd NWC Shutout(49-0), beating North Stokes(5-5 & 2-3) ...Meanwhile over in Walkertown, the Wolfpack(5-5 & 4-1) got a big night from Sr. QB Ian McKnight and RB Marcus Adams, and the swarming Walkertown defense did the rest as Walkertown ambushed(35-7) the Granite Bears of Mount Airy(7-3 & 4-1) to record their first win over Mount Airy...In other NWC action, WS-Prep(4-6 & 2-4) finished thier first 1A Varsity Football Season in the NWC as the Phoenix overwhelmed(52-6) Atkins(0-10 & 0-5) in their season finale, and will now have 2 weeks to prepare for their first 1A Playoff experience...Bishop McGuinness(3-7 & 1-4) was Idle last week...

Looking Ahead: East Surry will put their NWC Title hopes and Unbeaten Season on the line this week when the Cardinals host rival Mount Airy in the NWC Game of the Week...A win by the Cardinals would earn them an undisputed NWC title and likely 1 of the top 4 seeds in the upcoming 1AA playoffs...A Mount Airy win would earn the Bears a piece of the NWC title with East Surry and Walkertown...Walkertown will travel to Kernersville to face Bishop McGuinness in hopes of a win, and will be rooting for a Mount Airy win as well...In other NWC action this friday, North Stokes will look to close the season on a positive note, and earn a home playoff game when the Vikings travel to Atkins for the regular season finale with the Camels...As mentioned above, WS-Prep will be Idle this week....

SPC-7
---------
For the first time since the SPC formed 3yrs ago, a team other than Bessemer City(3-7 & 2-3) and Cherryville(1-9 & 1-3) will win the SPC Title this year...Pine Lake Prep(10-0 & 5-0) kept their SPC Title hopes and unblemished season intact as the Pride shutdown(30-3) the Gryphons of Thomas Jefferson(7-2 & 3-2) in another stellar defensive effort by the Pride who have only allowed 52 Total Pts all season....Tied atop the SPC Standings with he Pride, is the Community School of Davidson(8-2 & 5-0) who also remained unbeaten in the SPC with a dominating(56-6) victory at Cherryville.. Over in Gastonia last friday, Bessemer City shutout Highland Tech(0-9 & 0-5) for the 2nd time this season, extending the Rams losing misery to 25 games overall..In SPC non-conference play last friday, Mountain Island Charter(5-5 & 1-4) earned their most impressive win(39-17) of the season with a victory over the Cannon School(5-5)...

Looking Ahead: The Undisputed Champion of the SPC will be determined this friday in Davidson in the SPC Game of the Week when Pine Lake Prep travels to face the Spartans of the CSOD...The two teams that have shared the last couple SPC Crowns, will meet in Bessemer City for the Regular Season final as Cherryville travels to face the Yellowjackets..In other SPC action, Highland Tech will finish their season at Thomas Jefferson....In an interesting non-conference matchup, Mountain Island Charter will close the season at home against Kestrel Heights who will be part of either the Eastern or Western 1A Playoffs....

1A/2A MVC-4
---------------------
Last friday in Ronda in front of a capacity crowd, Unbeaten East Wilkes(10-0 & 6-0) clinched their first conference football championship since 1995...The dramatic comeback win(24-21) over the Andrew Bynum led 2A Eagles from Wilkes Central(8-2 & 4-2) wasn't determined until a Cardinal FG in the final seconds of the memorable MVC Title showdown...Meanwhile, 1A Starmount(6-4 & 4-2) did themselves and East Wilkes a favor by stunning(16-6) 2A Ashe County(5-5 & 4-2) in West Jefferson, ending the Huskies MVC Title hopes in the process....In other MVC action, 1A Alleghany(3-7 & 2-4) likely clinched a playoff spot with a hard fought(8-0) win at Elkin(1-9 & 1-5)....In Hays, 2A West Wilkes(5-5 & 3-3) won their 3rd straight MVC game, beating(28-7) 2A North Wilkes(1-9 & 0-6) who has lost 8 games in a row since beating 2A South Stokes(33-21) in late August...

Looking Ahead: Having already clinched the 2015 MVC Title, East Wilkes will try to finish the season unbeaten for the first time since the 2A Cardinals accomplished that feat, back in 1981....The Cardinals can also claim the Wilkes County Championship this week when they travel to Millers Creek to face improving 2A West Wilkes...1A foes Starmount and Alleghany County will close the regular season in Boonville, while 1A Elkin will travel to 2A Ashe County for the season finale....2A Wilkes Central will host 2A North Wilkes in Wilkesboro on Senior Night for the 2A Eagles...

1A/2A WHC-2
-------------------
The Race for the 2015 WHC Title continued last week for 1A Mitchell County(9-1 & 4-1), 2A Mountain Heritage(8-2 & 4-1) and Idle 2A Hendersonville(5-5 & 4-1)...1A Mitchell took out their frustrations of losing in Burnsville the week before to the 2A Cougars by shellacking(63-0) 2A Madison County(2-8 & 2-3)...2A Mountain Heritage also flexed their offensive muscle last friday with a dominating(68-30) win over 1A Avery County(1-9 & 0-5)....Meanwhile, 2A Polk County(5-5 & 3-2) ended 2A Owen's (1-9 & 1-5) dismal season with a 41-20 WHC victory in Black Mountain...

Looking Ahead: Hendersonville will try to secure a piece of this year's WHC Title when the Bearcats travel to face 2A rival Polk County in the WHC Game of the Week....1A WHC foes Avery and Mitchell County who are at opposite ends of the WHC Standings will finish the season in Spruce Pine, while 2A Mountain Heritage will make the short trip to Marshall to face 2A Madison County...2A Owen's season is likely complete with the Warhorses missing the playoffs for the first time in several years?....

I hope fansl of all the Western 1A teams have enjoyed the recap and happenings that I've detailed in the the Weekly Western 1A Reports, and Wish ALL the Western 1A teams good luck in the upcoming playoffs.....

As usual, Corrections, Comments and Opinions are always welcome!

Roar Tigers Roar!

Will 5 wins be enough to guarantee a 3A playoff spot?

After last night's games (10/23), the haves got more and the have nots remained have nots. I think there are a number of teams in the middle who may not make the 64-team playoffs. Currently, there are 40 teams with 6 or more wins who are pretty much guaranteed a playoff berth. After that there are 14 teams with 5 wins and 12 teams with 4 wins for a total of 26 teams which means at least 4 and possibly more could miss a bid. Below I have broken out those last 26 teams, their records, and upcoming opponents.

Team Record 10/30 11/6

Ashbrook 5-4; 3-2 Lake Norman Charter / Hunter Huss

Chapel Hill 5-5; 2-3 BYE / Northwood

Hibriten 5-4; 2-3 Patton / Hickory

West Brunswick 5-5; 2-3 Laney / BYE -

East Gaston 5-4; 3-2 Stuart Cramer / Forestview

Northwood 5-4; 3-1 Northern Vance / Chapel Hill

Topsail 5-4; 2-2 New Hanover / Hoggard

North Henderson 5-4; 2-3 Brevard / Smoky Mountain

Swansboro 5-4; 2-2 Havelock / West Carteret

Carson (Jesse) 5-4; 3-4 Hickory Ridge / Cox Mill

Charles B Aycock* 4-5; 2-2 Rose, JH / Eastern Wayne
* Aycock is the #1 3A team in a split conference; however, if they lose both games, they would be the #2

Fike 5-4; 1-2 Northern Nash / Hunt, JB

Saint Stephens 5-4; 2-3 Freedom / Fred T. Foard

Walter M. Williams 5-5; 3-4 Morehead, John T / BYE

Central Cabarrus 4-4; 3-4 East Rowan / Northwest Cabarrus

Eastern Guilford 4-5; 2-4 Eastern Alamance Rockingham County

Forestview 4-5; 3-2 Hunter Huss /East Gaston

North Buncombe 4-5; 3-1 Asheville / Reynolds, AC

Northern Vance 4-5; 1-3 Northwood / Cedar Ridge

Rockingham Co 4-6; 3-4 BYE / Eastern Guilford

Southern Lee 4-5; 1-3 Union Pines / Lee County

Union Pines 4-5; 0-4 Southern Lee / Westover

Westover 4-5; 2-2 Lee County / Union Pines

Cuthbertson 4-5; 1-2 Sun Valley / Piedmont

Sun Valley 4-5; 1-2 Cuthbertson / Anson County

Cedar Ridge 4-5; 2-2 Southern Durham / Northern Vance

Eastern Wayne* 2-6; 0-4 Southern Wayne / Aycock, CB
* Eastern Wayne is the #2 3A team in a split conference but won't make the playoffs unless they win both games. If they do that, they will actually become the #1 3A team and could knock out a 5-5 team.

South Stanly @ Albemarle

Well next fri night will put an end to this long nightmare of a season. Since I wasn't at the UA game last night I really don't know what to say except we LOST. The margin was more that I could have imagined. As for SS they seemed to play NS pretty close for three quarters but lost it in the fourth. So we will either end up 3-7 with a win or 2-8 with a loss. With 2 wins can you opt out of the playoffs. Not sure how that works but might be something to consider. I am throught blasting Smith so I will just let the season speak for itself. I would really hate for these kids to have to go to Robbinsville or Murphy and get humillated. So I will be there next fri night to support the dogs in their last home game of the 2015 season. Can only hope we can turn things around next year and get some "Bulldog Pride" back.
