Dennis Smith 53 years old. Country boy that grew up here and went to school here. Played football at West Craven. Been a town Alderman for quite a few years now. Would do anything for anyone out of the goodness of his heart. He is the one you would see on Friday nights working the end zone camera for our team at home and on away games. On the Friday night we elected past athletes into our Hall Of Fame he was the one with the cooker beside the track cooking the best chicken wings you ever ate. My heart aches. I can't imagine Friday nights without Dennis.

A very stark reminder we can’t take anything for granted. Community lost a good one.

Dennis always got one of my football books. Thoughts and prayers to West Craven community.
I had no idea you knew him Deana. We had a fundraiser drive at Moore's BBQ in New Bern last night. He told his wife he didn't feel good and was tired to go on without him. She called at 7:20 and he never answered his phone. She got home and he was laying across the bed already gone. Someone else had called and talked to Dennis at 6:11 to 6:13. They were the last to talk to him. He didn't post on here but he knew of things that were discussed cause he would mention them from time to time. Honestly Dennis didn't have time cause he was always doing something either for his family or someone else or the town. He can never be replaced.

So sorry to learn of this Otis4411; we lost one of our biggest DarkHorse supporters 2 years ago and it hurts. Honestly, they can't be replaced. I will pray for you and the West Craven Eagle community!

Thanks Wiz. We are having his visitation tonight from 5-8 pm. I am not looking forward to it. Knowing it's our last Friday night together. He has been a constant with our end zone camera ever since we got it. Dennis has done anything our coaches needed since he graduated from high school back around 85 or 86. You just know he is going to be there. Luckiest dude you ever met. He has won the 50-50 so many times they stopped announcing who won when he did win. I'd buy my tickets the same time as him. Get them before him or after him didn't matter he would win and I only won once. Those raffles they would have were you bought a ticket for 100.00 and have a fundraiser for the school. He won them too. He has been to away games and won the 50-50. I sure wish he had noticed warning signs that he was in trouble before he died. If he was having issues he never voiced them.
