West Charlotte @ Crest round 3

After further thought gimme West Charlotte in a close game. WC Crest rivalry goes all the way back to the old Tri County conference. In that conference WC completely dominated Crest with Crest getting just one win to WC 7. WC has also dominated Crest in the playoffs historically. The last game between the two Crest was highly favored and many on this board and elsewhere predicted a Crest blowout at home, but all WC did was come to Sid Bryson and win by 2 tds on what date? Friday the 17th..........

-Coach Greiner is a back against the wall coach. WC was very complacent vs. Chambers and NM who were familiar foes. The team didn't match intensity in games they were supposed to win. Now comes a game they are heavy underdogs. WC will be ready. They have some great coaches on staff. Will be a great game and great environment. Looking forward to it.

All time series 12 to 3 WC the last 15.
All time series is 12 to 5 if the Carolina preps page can be trusted. Supposedly they met in 1981 and 1982 with Crest winning.

We had a kid kicked out this year the way it was written up he was able to play next week. I think it depends on if it's an ejection or DQ I'm not sure of the difference between the 2. But we had to wait as well to see how it was written up by white hat.

Yes, Pisgah had this scenario this year where a kid was DQ'd in the Hayesville game and played the following week.

The part that makes me shake my head is, The refs threw flags left and right for talking or celebrating, but the most egregious play was a Statesville player on top of one of our DB's slamming his head into the turf between snaps. Not a flag to be seen.

We’ve had some bad games with that white hat. Really hated seeing him walking up Friday and we definitely paid for it from him during the game. Our sideline judge was just as bad. Only one that had any sense was statatesville sideline judge.

Watched WC first rd game online and they are a run first team wildcat, power, reverses, and you basically want to force them to pass..the defense is comparable to KM defense although I would say KM is a step faster in the front 7..

From the 2 games I have seen them live, the opposing teams receivers stayed wide-open behind the WC dbs but didn't have a qb to get them the ball. Front 7 is not as good as KM but they have a game wrecker in #4, I believe.

#20 a game wrecker also. #1 is the only good DB but they keep two safeties back to try and keep everything infront of them.

That’s what we’re waiting on

I was at the game. I never saw him ejected. I saw the dumb ass unsportsmanlike penalty after the ref told him twice to stop pointing at the DB, why can kids not act like they have been there before. Let your game do the talking and just walk away. When was he ejected? And is Malachi ok? I saw he was out most if not all of the second half.

2 and 3 are good to go

Good! So was Vari actually DQed? Kids said something about it when we got home but I was thinking they were talking about #3 getting hurt. I remember him fielding punts late in the game. I never saw him not playing.

Honestly it will be a defense vs. offense battle. Crest Offense is unbelievable this year! If WC defense can get 3 stops or two turnovers all game that'll be a win. Don't think they can routinely slow Crest down. Crest is going to really stress the WC defense as the game goes on. WC defense will keep them in the game. ADVANTAGE CREST #6, #14, #23, #2, and #1 for Crest are playmakers!

-The key is WC offense vs. Crest defense. This is where I think WC has some positives for them. WC will spread Crest out and run, run, run and occasional pass. If WC finds running lanes they will kill the clock and win the game. If WC cant run the ball its over, and over early honestly. EVEN #4, #2 Crest defense makes plays, and #0, #8 are around the ball alot too.

-As for intangibles id go WC. They have nothing to lose. Absolutely nothing at all and that's what makes them dangerous in this spot. Have to remember a 7-6 WC team was a first down or a punt away from beating KM last year. This WC team is tough to beat when they are focused. ADVANTAGE WC

SPECIAL PLAYERS WC #4, #20, and #1 on defense just make plays. On offense #9, # 8,#19, #14 and #2 make plays. Out of those 8 6 are soph or freshmen. Whereas #1, #2, #6, #7, #11, #0 are seniors. That's big in a game like this. Advantage CREST. Especially a SR QB.

-Will be a great close WC win or a complete Crest blowout. NO in between IMHO.

I don’t think he was DQ. He had two unsportsmanlike penalties so the white hat had to turn it in. Apparently he didn’t curse or threaten anyone.

So he plays.

The kid didn’t do anything but pick up his teammates towel and Statesville player come over trying to get it. Watch the video, all those cameras on the sidelines.

Yep. That particular white hat is weak. He’s been a menace.

But hey. At least he didn’t make a big deal in the end. The film says it all.

This weeks email is fantastic

FUN FACTS ABOUT OUR OPPONENT
  • The school mascot is the Lion. West Charlotte was opened in 1938 and was the pride of the city. Shortly after its opening, the spirit of West Charlotte was born. The mighty and proud Lion was chosen as the school mascot and maroon and gold were selected as the school colors.
  • The Lions have won more State Championships than Kings Mtn and Burns combined. One in 1954 and their last in 1995.
  • Former Crest Charger, Chris Coleman is an assistant coach at West Charlotte. Coleman still holds the NFL record for most blocked punts in a NFL playoff game.
  • The Lions marching band is one of the best known extracurricular activities at West Charlotte. They have performed at a bowl game every year since 2004, when they debuted at the Sugar Bowl.
  • With a victory this week the Chargers could be known as the Lion tamers.
  • We would like to congratulate Burns and Kings Mtn on getting an start to basketball season.
  • Hug a Mountaineer this week. They seem to have lost their minds and may be suffering from trauma created by the whip lash of watching our Chargers march up and down the field on them a couple of weeks ago.
  • West Charlotte has many notable Alumni's. Of those, Maureen O'boyle is one of the most notable. She has been a television reporter and news anchor, previously on A Current Affair and Extra
