Thomasville at Mitchell

Field condition should be good. Supposed to be sunny all day tomorrow with wind early in the day. No reason it should be wet
But more than likely, it will be. Once the sun goes down the humidity and cold will have the field slick. Not Rain wet but it will be slick and wet. However, as others have mentioned both teams have to play on the same surface.

Go Mountaineers

I’m glad y’all have faith in your team, sounds like your solely depending on cold , wet, icy field to stop #1 #12 #5 # 2 and #3. Surely you have some players that will Atleast try -
I hate to break it to you (you seem so excited!) but this is going to be a football game instead of a track meet. You might want to tell the rest of the Thomassville faithful too. They do seem to go on and on about all that speed heading up the mountain and they should know ahead of time that people (your people!) are going to get hit out there on the field. Most folks already know about the hitting but you folks seem clueless so I figure I'd let you know before hand. Don't say you weren't warned!

It really doesn’t matter about the field it matters about the kids playing and our slew footed hillbillies will try and keep up with these race horses
It does matter. Wet fields slow teams with speed down and tend to be an equalizer for a slower team. No rain on the radar in your area, sunny conditions predicted tomorrow with low humidity so again the field should be in good condition. If you beat us do it straight up!

Our boys know how to lay the wood a little bit themselves as well as to take a few so be warned as well.

The field is always wet lol

I didn’t see anyone listed on the shrine bowl or Carolina bowl rosters from Mitchell? However #1 for Thomasville was listed on the Carolina bowl roster at linebacker. Go dogs!

The wind is absolutely brutal up here tonight. Really hope it lays down by kickoff tomorrow.

Thomasville’s #1 made the Carolina bowl roster. The annual game played at Duke

In all seriousness though I’ve been really looking forward to this game. No matter who wins I just want it to be a close ball game. I’m sick of watching blowouts all year long. This is the most excited I’ve been for a Thomasville game in years and the future is bright! Looking forward to the great atmosphere at Mitchell as well! Final post from me till after the game is gonna be my prediction…29-23 DOGS!

Well I don't like your prediction and hope it doesn't come true lol, but yes should be a great atmosphere, hope you have a safe trip.

What some people do not realize. Playing at Mitchell the weather seems a little more colder. Even when I was there 8 years ago. Doesn't matter if it was sunny all day once the shade starts setting on the field. There is a 10 degree difference. The dew always appeares and surrounded by the pines all around the stadium the wind always pick up. I played at starmount for a playoff game and 32 degrees there is a whole lot different up In the elevations. I love the cold weather in the mountains. Just figured i would share my prospective since it feels like I was playing again. Always get the jitters seeing my brother out there. Still it was forever ago since I was there haha. Good luck to both squads! Go 'neers!

Is that by design?
No, the school is in Ledger, an unincorporated community between Bakersville and Spruce Pine. It is higher than both towns, the stadium sits on top of a hill, literally carved out of the side of the mountain, at about 2950ft. The town of Bakersville sits in a bowl, at the base of Roan Mountain (6600ft), and is at about 2550ft. The weather moves strange thru ledger, if it's 35 and raining in either town, it will be 30 and snowing in ledger. The sun sets quick behind the pines surrounding the stadium, and dew will settle almost immediately. Even in calm weather, there will usually be a 5mph breeze at the stadium. The surrounding pines muffle any outside noise, and reverberate the noise within the stadium, making it seem much louder than what it is. Our crowd (while seemingly a little slim this year, likely due to covid), can get very rowdy in big time games, making it hard to get plays in (for both teams!). It is a great environment to watch a game, not a bad seat in the house.

All that and then the players walking out of the woods with some Thunderstruck would be kind of spooky/intimidating for sure.
On another note, anyone from Bolens Creek Baptist Church in Burnsville up your way, that attends the games?

This wind is brutal this morning, granted I’m at about 3,200 feet but sure hope it lays down soon. Going to lay out a few more layers to wear tonight.

Thanks for the warning although I assure you it’s not needed!! Yes we are very fast but at the end of the day, we are still Thomasville! Thomasville has been known to deliver hits both defensively and offensively as well! Don’t get it twisted, just because they are fast don’t mean they are coming to run from you all night! I hear you guys talking about the two all state backers, that’s dope, it really is but they’re going to have to play tonight as well. #1 and #5 are some big boys at that rb spot and they arent going to back down to them that’s for sure! You’re not going to get the same team that didn’t show up for the east davidson game so don’t bet on what you’ve seen on YouTube! Dogs 27-14

Just so you know he's a Pisgah fan. While Mitchell fans on here have confidence in our team and that they have the talent and ability to win (as they should) this game and just from history Mitchell is a hard place for visitors to win in , most on this or the other thread that says Mitchell will rollover Thomasville or something to do with questioning the Thomasville kids toughness isn't Mitchell fans, while some of them honestly are just pulling for a fellow mountain team some just want to stir the pot. But just as we believe Mitchell can win just like you all believe your team can we know it's going to be a hard fought game just like a 3rd round game should be.

Hmmm idk, if any will be there or not. I'm not sure if I personally know anyone that goes to Bolen's Creek.
OK I don't want to take away from the football thread. Just wandering because I preached there several years ago and got to know some of the folks there. I can't remember names though -- but very nice people for sure!
Back to the topic.

There's been serval comments about the Mitchell field. I just read a post from one of our county commissioners that according to her the in new state budget the governor just signed the money allocated for Mitchell county one item will be $1.1 million for a turf field at the stadium.
It is much needed. While our staff does a great job keeping our field immaculate, and I love having a natural turf, the increasing use of the high school's field is making natural turf cost prohibitive...
