Here is one that may show my ignorance but is a decent deer story.

I am all set up at 3:00 in a bottom between a cutdown and an uncut beam field. Farmer starts combining the field at about 3:30. Not to worry, I know farmers that have killed deer from the combine and deer don’t seem to be too worried.

At 4:30 a small white pick up drives down the edge of the field and passes within 50 yards of me. After he passes I can no longer see him but I hear someone walking in the bottom where I am hunting. He has parked and is slipping in to hunt my land I think to myself.

My buddy has a lock on stand and 2 cameras in the direction he was walking. I have a trespasser or a thief! I hustle down the tree in my climber and pack up. I then set my stuff by the creek and head off the find the rascal. Ill that he is there and I am having to walk over the area I am trying to hunt. I am making more noise than usual because I don’t want to get shot. After around 300 yards I come up empty. Too late to climb again, so I walk just to the edge of the field to see if I can take a pic of the truck and license plate. To my surprise the truck is 400 yards away on the other side of the field. The guy never stopped and what I heard was a deer he scared - not 50 yards from me. Boy did I feel ridiculous!!!

Walked about 200 yards back towards the truck and sat down beside and old oak and ground hunted for 30 minutes, all the time chuckling at myself.

Ultimately he may have saved me because its a 800 yard drag back to the truck.

I never cease to amaze myself.

GREAT deer story sir!

Watching the PBS episode of Ken Burns’ “The National Parks”. Every documentary done by Ken Burns should be mandatory viewing by every American. Kidd, I know you can appreciate the one on “Baseball, the American Pastime”.

It's a shame there are calls to defend PBS. Dang shame.

Watched it when first came out. Early 90s maybe? Think nine episodes. Have watched the 60s and 70s episodes a bunch since then. That was the golden era of that sport to me. 80s were ok.
Burns is a fine storyteller as well. He makes even Neanderthals like me wake up and pay attention. 😂
