Congrats to Riedsville 2A state champions and maybe the best team in the state period. Very dominant performances in the playoffs. Once got healthy they turned into the beast we all thought they’d be. They made two really good teams Shelby and Clinton look bad.
Once again, congrats on a great season and repping the WEST.

Let’s try this again, as we did after last week’s game.
Tip of the hat to Reidsville.

Congrats.

Interesting that the television announcers mentioned three things.
One was that the young Teague has been primarily motivated to get a head coach Championship ever since Shelby defeated his dad in the 2005 Championship game.
The announcers also laughed at Reidsville’s “self proclaimed ‘capitol’ status”.
Appears they read our posts.
They also mentioned that either Shelby or Reidsville has been in all years Championship games since 2012.
Shelby was brought up again at the end of today’s game.

As far as history goes, you got us this time, we got you the last time.
It will probably be that way again for the next 20 years.
We hope we stay in the same classification.
This is too good a North Carolina high school rivalry not to continue. Statewide playoff level, the best rivalry, no doubt.

We gave props.
Now let’s see if you can hold your tongues.
We doubt it.

Watching Weddington now…..they are without a doubt the best team in state

Clinton has some dudes as well.
Clinton need to get out of that ugly offense and they have a chance. Put 10 at TE or WR and use the other back, that was pretty good in my opinion, and spread the defense out. I know it got you that far, but you need more to win it and last year you lost to the eventual champion.

Outstanding performance by Reidsville today. Very deserving of all the praise I am seeing on the boards. Congratulations on another state title.

Lee was magnificient, Harrison is a generational type talent, Neal is a huge weapon in space and I thought the offensive and defensive lines played really well.

Obvious early on that Clinton would have a difficult time stopping the Rams passing attack. The Dark Horse defense registered zero sacks and Amaris Williams was neutrailized on that side of the ball (1 solo, 2 assists, and only 1 TFL). I was also really suprised and impressed by the Reidsville balance (180 rushing, 258 passing) while running 20 more offensive plays compared to Clinton.

I stated on another thread that I would be interested to see if Clinton would try and stick with the run even if behind and it certainly appeared that was the gameplan. Only 6 pass attempts all game. I also think there was an effort to try and save Williams on offense in the 2nd quarter for the 2nd half but he never really was a factor (18-77 4.3 ypg). Robinson broke a few long runs but it wasnt enough. It was and has been obvious that the Clinton offense changed after McLaurin went out and they did miss him this game but I do not think him being there would have changed the outcome.

I thought the turnover on downs just before the half and then Clinton scoring on their first possession might have flipped the script but give the Rams credit for answering back immediately after. Still not sure why Reidsville didnt attempt the FG there but maybe they felt like it was out of the kickers range.

I picked Clinton 28 Reidsville 20, so just flip the scores and I was close LOL. Im sure both teams will be in the thick of it again next year but this year there is no doubt, Reidsville is the best 2A team and a very deserving state champion and as painful as it is for me to say, the West definitely had the superior teams this year.

apparently other than today you haven't seen Clinton play very much.

The reason they kept mentioning Shelby is because Erik Teague was the the QB for Reidsville in 2005 when the Rams lost to Shelby by 8 in the State title game. Maybe that drives him to put special emphasis on beating Shelby, sort of like Roy Williams did with NC State. That 2005 Shelby title ultimately may cost the Lions more future ones if Coach Teague is at the helm for many years.

I was extremely impressed with #0 it’s scary to see how good he is right now and imagining him the next two years. Kid has all the tools to be playing on Sunday’s. Definitely someone I’ll be keeping up with in the future.

I agree

I agree with everything you said I just hope he has the discipline

Will Teague always have the superior talent afforded to him in the future, as he did this season? It’s inevitable that every program will have a slippage in talent at some point. Shelby has been in that position the last two seasons, since graduating a great senior class in ‘21.

As long Shelby keeps its players, and not be affected by the “transfer portal”, Shelby will be fine, able to compete with anyone in 2A.🙄
Rest assured, if Coach Teague is at the helm for many years, Shelby WILL cost him some future titles as well.

Not sure what is coming up from the middle school, but the current freshman class has some great talent that will contribute the next 3 years.

Of course talent is always a big factor in who wins, and Shelby gets plenty of it. I was speculating on a possible intangible factor that may (or may not) exist because of Teague's personal history with Shelby. To quote Michael Jordan in The Last Dance, "And I took that personally..."

I feel that Shelby has a way better chance of losing kids to the portal because of good football teams in close proximity to them....Rams are the only competitive team in that county and really only other choice would be 30 mins down the road at Grimsley

add Northern Guilford and Dudley to the the choices of good programs close by. However, a player most likely transfers because of playing time. He might sit on the bench on one school but be a starter at another.

Not overly concerned about it at the moment, but that’s a great point, though. Crest has always been seen as attracting the most recruiters in the county. Kings Mountain has the casino now, which will attract more people to move there. Burns isn’t a concern.
