New Maxpreps 2a poll

The new poll has it as follows
1. South Point
2. Shelby
3. WRH
4. Reidsville
Splitting hairs but not sure WRH is top 3.
No disrespect to Shelby. They're undefeated but games a much closer than past couple of years. I think if you're undefeated and defending champions you deserve benefit of the doubt, but without the pedigree you guys would be 5 or 6.
Either way all four are defending champions. 2A is loaded.
WRH is exactly where they deserve t be!

Wanna see a true test of strength and really see we're ur team stands or may stand, schedule a beastly Charlotte Raleigh/Durham/Greensboro 4A 4AA school. Hibriten 2010 did just that with Butler who at the time was a state ranked 4A school and I'm telling ya it was a nail biter. I'm sure tough 2a and 3A teams would love to take a crack at Mallard Creek but the level of athleticism on that deal is enormous. Win/lose it's for fun, measurement of a program and a good nonconference gate sale. Just my 2 cents lol.

Mt Heritage is improved from last year as well. Not sure if they're 3rd or 4th rd good. Franklin seems to be improved as well
Heritage and franklin are both very good teams but to make a run for either team they really have to be seeded high and get home games ...both have big home field advantages..but those schools will never have the athteles Shelby South point wrh reidsville have..so they run into problems but in 2014 franklin beat Monroe at home in 3rd round and played e Lincoln toe to toe in semis before losing

Northeastern should be #3 in my opinion! Beating D.H. Conley 3a Norview (Norfolk Va) 5a the first two weeks and haven't missed a beat! No disrespect to the other schools! Northeastern vs Edenton Holmes Fri Night will be another tough game!

As indicated, I take nothing away from the schedule or wins. What I'm saying is if say Northeastern would have played 5 undefeated games against great competition, they wouldn't make the top 5. I honestly think Shelby and South Point will meet in 2aa western finals and Reidsville and WRH have a great chance of meeting in the finals
Keep sleeping on Northeastern...

You win 4 striaght 2a ttiles in a row you get the benefit of the doubt until you get beat. That is Shelby or anyone else who does the same. You dont get the title with a TKO you gotta knock the champ out. They play the toughest 2a schedule in the state ( thats not even a debate) and they havent lost a game in a very long time. Tough to do.

And, 3 of those 3A teams are ranked in the state. 2A posters are so accustomed to seeing us blow out opposition, they think we're down this season. They'd be wise to believe, otherwise.

Lion fans can think what they want regarding the 3 3A teams at the top half of the 2A polls but please don't suggest we don't know Shelby. We know each other like you know your next door neighbor. Through all the bantering back and forth for as long as most of us have been around we aren't foolish enough to have anything less than the up most respect for the Shelby Lions. They have more than earned that respect to the point I don't know how the Raiders are ranked above them. Regardless until November we won't know how the teams match up.
As for their matchup with the Stallions this week you can bet most Raider fans are hoping for the Lions to surprise the Stallions. But this is a tall task for any team in the nation.
Did I mention "SHELBY" sux?

2A Strength of Schedule per Simmons computer:

1. WS Carver
2. Clinton
3. N. Davidson
4. W. Craven
5. HP Andrews
6. Shelby

Tough schedules all.

Y'all are still missing my point. I'm not knocking on NE. I actually think it would have been a better match up with Reidsville in the title game.
My point was if Shelby wasn't who the are, they may not be ranked as high. They're a very good team but not quite to the level of the last few years. It's not knocking on Shelby either.

Guess I should have qualified it as Shelby plays the toughest schedule and actually wins games. 4 of the 5 barely compete. I will give you North Davidson but that schedule ranking will drop a ton when his report comes out Thursday and Shelby's will jump. Then Shelby plays RH Southpointe and North Davison plays 0-5 South Rowan.

So....lets just call it waht it is. Shelby plays and competes with the toughest schedule in 2a.

For sake of idle chatter..I think if by some large miracle the lions happen to win this RHSP game and finish the season undefeated, they might have a small shot at a national top 25 ranking(legit all classes, not just the small school ranking) as trivial as that would seem. Would be a first for NC 2A. Cummings cracked the top 25 as 3A back in the 80s. Dudley did in small 4A(not a big deal, but worth mentioning at small 4A)

Nope..not that it matters because national rankings are pretty silly but they would need some huge point differentials, one or two more large school wins and probably some luck. Now....if they backed up this schedule with another one next year and knocked off some name teams maybe..

lol trivial, but for idle chatter sake..

One or two more large school losses(if those already ranked suffer losses) and if RHSP gets another major win(depending on who's left on the schedule, I have no idea). Based on Shelby's previous undefeated season another undefeated season this year there's a small chance at #25 or even top 30.

Dudley at small 4A didnt play Mallard Creek or Butler, only Richmond and Page and they managed to reach #25(twice I think). The undefeated seasons account for alot.

I don't recall Dudley ever being ranked in the top 25 but there are so many of these things now I guess it would be possible. Indy, Mallard Creek, Butler, Richmond are the only schools I recall being in the top 25 in USA Today, Max Preps or Dallas Jacksons now defunct site in the last 10-15 years. Again...its possible. So much non-football related stuff goes into those things it really is a pretty useless measure.

I don't usually try to predict games but I see no reason why Shelby can't win this game.

Defense wins and the Golden Lions have one of the best. And coaching wins. And the Golden Lions have one of the best.

Should be a great game.

Blue and Gold are you coming to the game Friday night?

@72, I have not made my final decision yet. Its Vance week for the Creek and I havent missed this game since 2008. Very tough for me to miss. However, I have put myself in Ballantyne during the day on Friday so that if I do decide to go it will be an easy drive to RH.

Yeah, that would be a tough one to miss if I was an MC fan. Do you have a broadcast team that video livestreams the game? We do, but RHSP is not allowing them to do video for this one, only radio. Best of luck....although I don't think MC is gonna need it.
