Erwin loses a heartbreaker in the final seconds to a very good team. I witnessed a qb go from a good player last year to a star this year. Damien Ferguson had 5 td passes and well over 100yd rushing. The really bad part is he got hurt pretty bad on the last play. Not sure what his status is right now. I was really impressed with Erwin's offense. They need to fix some things defensively though. I now agree with you Asheville guys about this game helping Erwin later on. We will see very few teams like that in the mtns.

Tough break BD! sounded like a back and fourth game. After week one it looks like the Asheville, Erwin and Reynolds games are gonna be some really good games!

How did #5 Trammell look for Mount Paran?
He was very good, but what makes them unreal is upfront. The DE/OL commited to Indiana is the real deal and so is the big tackle being recruited by Rice along with some other schools. They were like a head taller than us at most positions, on the line especially. Physiclally it was as tough a matchup as we have had since we played Crest back in 2010. We almost had this thing won. We were up by 1 with a minute or so left and had them at a 3rd and 11 and they completed one of the few passes they threw (we intercepted 2 of the 4 they threw) and got first down. Trammell broke about a 20 yarder with 30 seconds left to give them the go ahead score. Ferguson for Erwin is a game player. He was ridiculously accurate unlike what I saw in scrimmages earlier. I don't think Mt. Paran has played a team that runs an offense like ours and they really never adjusted to it. We only punted once the whole game. We had several turnovers, but so did they so it was a wash. Great game and we fought to the end. With 8 Seconds left in the game Ferguson went down with a significant ankle injury, so we can just hope for the best. They didnt have a a ton of players, but I swear they had more 6'2 to 6'5 kids than we've had on our sidelines in 5 years.

Overheard the trainers but they said they thought he would be fine. So hopefully it's not a season ending injury because he looked great tonight.

Haha. You warned us about this kid. He was as good of a rb that I have seen in person since I watched TJ Logan a few years ago. He must be scary good at baseball if he is not going to play college football because of it.

Thoughts after the fact. I am very proud of the effort and performance by Erwin last night. When I saw the Mt. Paran kids for the first time I was a little taken back. They were huge, and the kids could move at that size. Those kids weren't just cement blocks stuck in the ground, but very agile for offensive and defensive lineman. Our kids never blinked though, and our offensive skill guys looked great. Especially when you look at the opponent. Damien was on point from the get go, but we just couldn't handle their size for the whole game and at the end we just didn't have any answers for them defensively. Proud of the effort defensively as those kids never quit against their imposing style of play.

Moving forward obviously have to hope Damien is ok. Scary moment, but if he's not we will have to find another answer. I do think we have a great staff and while it may not be perfect we will find a way to put points on the board.

Defensively I think we are fine. We shouldn't see another team that imposing all year. We have some kids that can move on that side of the ball and we aren't tiny up front. So I think the defense will be fine moving forward and this game should help us against run heavy opponents in the future.

Did the have a kid under 6ft? Lol. I guess you can do that when you hand pick your team every year.

It's funny how people around here think a big team is a bunch of slow 300# lineman. MP entire offense line didn't have a guy over 250#, but they were all about 6 2" or more and so quick.

Did MP throw the ball any or was it all run? Were they going I formation, triple option or what? Sounds like you guys gave them all they wanted.

I heard it was a hard hitting, pretty wicked, game. Looks as if Erwin was able to hang with them.

They threw the ball 3 times and ran the triple option. A lot of athletic big lineman because they were pulling all night. A great early season match up for us.
