I don’t know anything about Northeastern but on the West side Maiden, Reidsville, Shelby and Salsibury will be a game to watch if any of them plays each other. I’m looking forward to the playoffs already. Maiden n Bunker Hill next Friday will good one to see.

Going to be an exciting week for sure! We've had some good games. Bandys/West Lincoln went into OT; Maiden/West Lincoln came down to the final seconds; Bunker Hill/West Lincoln was a tight one throughout; West Lincoln beat N-C in OT.

Friday's game between Bunker Hill and Maiden will be a good test for each team as we head into the final weeks of the regular season. Friday's game will likely determine who wins the conference championship considering the loser will have to hope the winner loses their last two games.

Looking forward to seeing it all unfold!

My Picks:
Bunker Hill over East Burke

Maiden over Bunker Hill
Lincolnton over East Burke
West Lincoln over West Caldwell
Newton over Bandys

--Maiden at Bunker Hill will be the game of the week
--Newton at Bandys should be one heck of a game as well

Game of the Week breakdown since it will be two undefeated teams and will most likely be the Conference Championship:

Maiden (over 7 games) has outscored opponents 288-47 (avg. 41-7) this season (with 3 shut outs) with their two closest wins being a 27-21 OT win versus Christ School and a 20-14 win versus West Lincoln

Bunker Hill (over 6 games) has outscored opponents 187-31 (avg. 31-5) this season (with 3 shut outs) with their two closest wins being a 29-18 win versus Stuart Cramer to open the season and a 15-7 win versus West Lincoln

In recent history, since 2004 (17 years) Maiden has a record of 16-0 over Bunker Hill (there was no game in the spring due to conference only COVID restrictions) - (my personal records currently don't go further back). In this 16 game span, Maiden has outscored BH 672-218 (avg. 42-13) with 3 shut outs. 7 of those 16 games BH was kept to 10 points or less with the closest game being a 27-20 game in 2004 (in which I believe both teams were undefeated going into that game as well).

Maiden Head Coach Will Byrne has a 4-0 record against BH in his 6 years at Maiden. With his teams outscoring BH 190-35 (avg. 47-9) with 1 shut out. Those games were scored: 60-7; 41-15; 49-0; 40-13.

Looking at this I honestly believe that this game is one where Bunker Hill is absolutely dangerous, not only because of how good they've been this year, but because they have nothing to lose when it comes to playing Maiden (even if they weren't good this year). The combination of being a great team and having nothing to lose makes you a certified problem for whoever your aiming for. You add that to the benefit of playing at home then you have the perfect storm of everything that is needed to unseat Maiden.

This game will be all gas and no brakes, and the winner will be the one who has the bigger tank! I truly can't wait till Friday. Good luck to all teams this week. Keep your head on a swivel and play through the whistle.

Would u have any insight on the status of Bandys’ injuries? Will there be some players returning for Fridays’ game against Newton?
A simple yes or no would do.

As of right now I do not. I will talk to my nephew tonight and see what the Monday injury report is.

I can also confirm what Maiden Creek said as far as the schedule.
For the record….I can’t begin to tell you how I enjoy the fact that we have a local radio station that covers the area high school football games! I’ve been listening to WNNC since I was old enough to turn on a radio! Imma say…55 years!
I made a remark to another poster a few weeks ago…that I still believe there isn’t a better way to enjoy a football game than listening to local engaged broadcasters, who have ties to all of the area schools, covering the big game! I call it….old schooling…the area big game!
I just wanted you to know! Thanks for all you do, have done, and will do… in the future!
I mean that!…sincerely! Thank you!😉

Maiden Creek, that is a really nice shoutout to WNNC, hopefully some of the staff will get to see it. Here, inside of Lincolnton it's hard to get their AM broadcast at night because they must cut their power, but in the day it comes in clear. Now, I think they have an FM station and an internet stream.
In 1978 my Father and I would try and pick up their broadcasts of the Maiden playoff games. We would listen to the roar of the static but once in awhile it would clear up just enough to tell who was winning.

We too have a good station which is a part of a conglomerate called KTC Broadcasting. I appreciate our guys even though I think there's a couple of them who don't like us very much. There was one back in the late eighties and he gave me the impression that he hated out guts. We were going through one of those dry spells like we're trying to pull out of now and having to listen to that guy when I had to work took some effort. But all things considered they're pretty good to us.
Up until probably the late seventies and maybe into the early eighties WLON Lincolnton didn't broadcast at night. When Lincolnton would play Maiden, there, and we couldn't pick up WNNC at all my Dad would call one of the beer joints there in Maiden because he knew they'd be listening to it. If your wondering if my Father's connection to this beer joint was as a customer, that's a yes. He worked in Maiden and that was one of his daily stops. Anyway, I'm sure WNNC appreciates your positive comments.

Here are my picks:

Lincolnton at East Burke: I pick the Wolves by 10-Sorry Burkeforreal. I'm pulling for you to get another victory but I don't want it to be us. I better not say too much since East Burke beat Patton and nearly beat Newton-Conover. You already got one win over us this season with your adopted team, namely, North Lincoln, so we can't give you the last laugh... Hey! then you'd be the "Laughing Cavalier" 🙃

Newton-Conover at Bandys: Newton-Conover must have some athletes. I wasn't there but I still haven't figured out how we came from seventeen points down. I saw where GrizzlyDevil said the Trojans might have some starters back so I look for a good game. I'll take Bandys by a point.

West Lincoln at West Caldwell: Sorry Warriors, these guys have had a couple of tough games over the last two weeks and are looking to score some points. I'd like to see the Warriors win their first game, it's only been a couple of weeks ago that we won our first of the season and it felt awfully good. I'm afraid this one won't be it. West by 12

Maiden at Bunker Hill: Do tell. This will be one of the most anticipated 2A games in the state. After the Bears win over West Lincoln, even though no one will admit it, the BH faithful like their chances of upending Maiden since WL played them close. All that told me is the Blue Devils know how to hold on and win in a dire situation, just another trait that good teams have.
I like BH and glad to see them playing good football but Maiden does too many things too well. Blue Devils by 10

*Postscript: The most under appreciated people in Catawba County and maybe in the state are going to be those poor souls having to sell tickets and concessions to the Maiden crowd at Bunker Hill High School, Friday night. You're going to feel like King Balak in Numbers 22:3. You'll probably ask yourself "Where do they all come from". Don't despair, they'll be good to you.:)

Loving all this post!

‘78 is a topic that should and will!…. be discussed over broke bread. We have got to make this happen. Regrettably….ain’t sure when I could do it…..but I’m working on it! Can’t wait to hear about your Dad! That’s good stuff!

Here’s a funny…..oh Grizz…went clinical on his prediction. 😂
I love it …when he does that! I know!…He is pumped about this game!… I am too!
Don’t get any better! Does it? Grizz😜

Let me see….who’s playing?

Does anyone know how big of a crowd Bunker Hill holds. I know it will be packed and fans will have to get there early I’m sure.

Good calls. I guess NL is or has been my adopted team but I havnt kept up with them as much as I have other years. Good to see ya mentioning me. You said when they beat Patton and nearly beat Newton well Patton really hadn’t been good in a while and really can’t remember when they were big contenders of anything cept maybe one season. Newton has not been Newton in a few years. I should adopt Patton cause that’s were my boys will go one day if the Lord don’t come get us first. By the looks of things that will be soon. Been having inner spiritual struggles so you pray for me man. Wondering if I know that I know that I know. You get the picture. Thanks in advance.

I figured if ole EB was gonna turn things around it’d be this year. Maiden musta really be that good

Lincolnton and EB this will be first time these schools have ever met in football surpriseinly unless I missed a year somewere so interesting to be watching this one just for historic reasons. More than likely won’t be there as I’ve not been to many a games period due to church events that I’d never put football over or having to deal with family

Looks like they held on for a half but BH turned up the juice. I wasn’t there but this score looks like it came from a state ranked team which it was. I’m not sure what’s going on with the Icard boys
Other than four plays for TD'S this game was even the best Defense this year for EB no blocking from the O line QB tried to pass several times but the D line was in the back field!! The record don't show buy getting better! one of the top LB was out for EB also!!

We definitely appreciate the kind remarks! We've enjoyed being able to broadcast games on Friday nights as long as we have. We're also proud of our partnership with the schools, and they're willingness to work with us and allow us inside the press box and along the sidelines on a Friday night. The athletic directors, administrations and coaching staffs have always been awesome and welcomed us.

We're glad that you've listened, and continue to listen - and that so many others do so as well. We always strive to have a great broadcast and put the spotlight on the student-athletes in our area.

As Lincolnton mentioned, we do have an FM frequency now at 101.3 and also online streaming so you can always listen on a Friday night no matter where you are - even on your phone.

Coming up on Friday, you'll hear how that showdown between Maiden and Bunker Hill plays out live. We'll have that game as our featured Game of the Week.

Given that this is Homecoming weekend and our class reunion is gathering for the game and a Saturday evening party, my plan is to be in attendance for this Lincolnton/EB game. It’s great to hear about the progress that’s been made since I saw them last a few weeks back. Hopefully, since it’s homecoming and there’s likely to be a bigger crowd with some that I know haven’t been to a Lincolnton football game in 20 years or more they won’t be disappointed and it’ll lead to a bigger draw for future games. Lincolnton used to pull a big crowd for both home and away games. Been pretty disappointing to see how puny crowds have been for the few games I’ve been to so far. Also, since it’s homecoming…for the sake of tradition…it sure would be awesome if those yellow helmets made a grand return this Friday night (fingers 🤞). No matter, I’m looking forward to it & hope we get to see a homecoming win!

I believe I remember Coach Smith once said many years ago the color was supposed to be Old Gold (like Shelby), but the manufacturer sent the yellow helmets and the colors just stuck. I do prefer the Black on Black look with the yellow helmet, but I'm starting to get use to the matte black helmets. I am still not a fan of the current logo with the Wolf in front of the L.

West Caldwell at West Lincoln
The Johnny’s don’t lose at home often! It wont happen this week either. I do believe that the Warriors can slow the Rebels down a little…but not much! I’ll be surprised if West Caldwell scores…and yet… I think this game will be closer than most think….maybe a 21-0 or 28-6…type score….in favor of West Lincoln.

Newton at Bandy’s
I’m taking Bandys at home in a squeaker! Bandys having some starters back is really going to help. Newton will have to prove me wrong…and I believe they can …if they want it bad enough! This will be one heck of a ballgame!

East Burke at Lincolnton
I’m taking the Wolves at home. I think this game will be closer than what most people think especially in the first half…..but once again…the Wolves will keep hammering away until East Burke breaks…..and the Wolves will pull away in the 4th qtr. I know the Wolves are pulling for Maiden to beat Bunker Hill….due to the Wolves wanting that chance against Maiden to possibly force a 3 way tie at the top of the CVAC. 😜 I hope they get that chance!

I’m taking the Blue Devils over the Bears.
Here’s some trivial history….Maiden and Bunker Hill share a state high school football record between them! 1986….most fumbles recovered in a game…8. That record is shared with Alexander Central and Foard as well.

I’ll share a story from an old Maiden war horse about this Bunker Hill vs Maiden rivalry.
The story is called the “Greatest Coaching Decision Ever Made!”…among the old heads at Maiden. I’m not sure what year…late ‘80’s..I think.
Maiden and Bunker Hill were tied in regulation and went to OT. Coach Randy Faucette, Bunker Hills’ winningest coach, was asked by the officials after the coin toss if he wanted to defend or take the ball first. Coach Faucette replied….I don’t care who gets the ball first…but…we’re playing it out down there!….as he pointed to the north end of the stadium…opposite of where the Creek gang was standing!😂

Faucette’s Bears won the game!😂😂

Good luck to our CVAC brothers this week!

Guys, and you probably know this but the official colors are black and gold. In recent years (and recent to me is three decades) the gold has the yellow look.
when I was at Lincolnton High School it was customary for the student body to wear black and gold on Friday’s before games and on designated days. Also, then there was no helmet logo or number, just a black stripe down the middle.
Tennvols have a good time at the class reunion. It’s good they have it in Lincolnton. To me, generally speaking, Lincolnton people are some of the best people on this planet and I have a reason for saying that, but it just seems like sometimes when they’re together and out of town some of them will get a little, well, crazy, so it’s good you’re having it here.

"I know the Wolves are pulling for Maiden to beat Bunker Hill….due to the Wolves wanting that chance against Maiden to possibly force a 3 way tie at the top of the CVAC. 😜 I hope they get that chance!"
This is an excerpt from a earlier post by NC Preps poster and super Blue Devils fan, Maiden Creek

Maiden Creek, to an odds-maker The Blue Devils would have a noticeably good chance of beating Lincolnton, I mean really high odds. The odds would probably be so high it would make someone dizzy, so high in favor of the Blue Devils that I'd have to have telescopic help to see them, so very high that, well, you know what I saying; but ever since we beat Newton-Conover and Bandys and knowing we had two teams in front of us that I thought and am thinking we might could beat, what you said has been spinning around in the back of my mind like a yo-yo...Just wanted to fess-up and offer my compliments on your intuition. Some would call such thinking foolish and some might call it impudent but it's nothing but being a Wolf.

*Side Note: if East Burke beats us, Friday night, BFR will be saying "Uh Huh, you wrote us off, didn't you". He really will be "The Laughing Cavalier" after I've posted this.

I don’t know anything about Northeastern but on the West side Maiden, Reidsville, Shelby and Salsibury will be a game to watch if any of them plays each other. I’m looking forward to the playoffs already. Maiden n Bunker Hill next Friday will good one to see.
From what I seen last night Maiden looks a whole lot better than Bunker Hill does!! Game with 1 play left in the half against EB was 3 to 0. Bunker Hill knew they were in a game but ended up 10 0 at half! Then score on the first possession of the 3rd quarter to make it 17 to 0 I really thought this was going to be a running clock game! Hope that is a sign EB is getting better.

You know…East Burke beat Patton…which we both admit was a disappointing win….and yet…Patton has won 2 games…over…3-3 Madison and 2-4 Cherryville. East Burke played 3-3 Freedom and 2-4 Newton…all the way to the wire!…prolly should’ve won. Played Bunker tough for a half!
I’d say they’re improving! Let’s all remember….they got a good ball coach over there!😉

LHSfaninVA, that’s us. Just hope the score isn’t a premonition of things to come.
Friday before last the Wolves were decked out in yellow/gold trousers and a black jersey. Have to say, it didn’t look half bad with the black helmet and the wide yellow/ gold stripe.
